We Must Always Have Hope!

On reading through my friends' Blogs over the past few days, it has become apparent that several of them are going through quite a hard time at the moment, for one reason or another.

I noticed this poem on another blog, and Bethe77 has very kindly said that I might use it here today.  I hope you like it.

DON'T QUIT

by Edgar A. Guest

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
when the funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit - rest if you must,
but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns.
As everyone of us sometimes learns.
And many a fellow turns about when he might have won, had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow - you may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man;
often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup;
and he learned too late when the night came down,
how close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out - the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
and when you never can tell how close you are,
it may be near when it seems afar;
so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit - it's when things seem worst,
you must not quit.

My mum gave me this 20 years ago when I was going through chemo and I often read it especially on the days when I just didn't want to go on.

So true, Thisisme. Adversity comes to each and every one of us. We are tested. Quitting guarantees failure. The only choice that makes sense is to summon all available resources and meet our challenges head on. I pray that you are feeling better and stronger day by day, dear Thisisme!

This poem reminds me of Great Britain during WWll who never quit, never gave up and was willing to fight to the last man for freedom. I will never forget the bravery of the British people during that time. Churchill - "Never give up."

Belle - that's really lovely that you remember the British people like that during World War 2. My own dear mum was bombed during a Blitz on the City of Plymouth, and my dad came home and found the house completely demolished, with my poor mum amongst the rubble.

Great words of encouragement for each and every one of us. I believe in being as optimistic as possible in life but it is not always easy to be so.

Yes you must paint your pine its so much brighter, and in our climate we need all the brightness we can get! Have a happy day! Linda
