Greetings from Gay Paree!

Greetings my little bloggy friends.  I hope all is well with you.  I have tried to be good whilst I've  been over here with my family, and not gone on the computer very much, so I'm missing out on all your news.  I'm sure if you had won the lottery, you would have sent me an e-mail to let me know. Hee Hee!

Anyway, I thought I would just send you this postcard from Paris to let you know that I was thinking of you all.

I will just tell you this little story of when I boarded the plane at Exeter Airport.  My seat was by the window, and there was this man sat in the aisle seat.  He had made himself very comfortable with legs spread out, and about six newspapers all spread out  over the seat that was MINE!! I just tapped him on the shoulder and said, "excuse me, could I just sit down please."  He just glared at me and made this huge thing of collecting up all his newspapers (meanwhile, there was a queue of people now behind me, trying to make their way to their own seats) to make room for little old me!  I sat down and he immediately put his arm on the armrest and opened up a large newspaper to read it.  I should point out that half of the newspaper was now in front of me!

"So that's how it is going to be" I thought to myself.  "I won't be eating my banana, or getting my book out to read then."  I just didn't have any room to manoeuvre at all!  My daughter said that I should have started to read out a piece from the newspaper, saying "gosh, that's a really interesting article, isn't it?"  But I'm a wimp, so I said nothing!

I'm pleased to say that my two daughters have no trouble in speaking up for themselves, but why is it that some people just don't seem to think of others at all.

Enjoy your weekend my friends, whatever you might be doing.  I'll be in touch again soon.

I'm imagining what a grand time you're having there now! I'm sure it's just lovely. And, I do hope your return trip will be minus any clods like the newspaper man-

Shelly - Blimey, that was a quick comment. I had literally only just pressed the Publish Post button, and up popped your comment!! Clod - yes, that's a good word.

Oh that is one of my pet hates - Rudeness.

Isn't it horrible when someone acts like that.

You were right to keep quiet, I would have done the same although inside I would be furious!!

Enjoy your holiday.

That would have been perfect, reading over his shoulder :)

We don't always think of these things at the time.

Have a great time.

Look at you, swishing about Paris. I don't know what you can do with men who suffer from "entitlement" either. They are usually narcissists and anything you do couldn't pierce their thick skin.

How wonderful to see you darling! I know you are enjoying the heck out of Paris and your family.

I never understand people who think of no one but themselves, especially in a situation such as a plane ride. Jeesh, have a little consideration newspaper man.

At least you didn't let it ruin your trip. Much hugs to y'all and we'll see you soon.

I'm very sorry I was rude to you, Thisisme, but I hate being interrupted when I'm trying to read my paper! As you noticed, I mellowed out in a hurry when I caught a glimpse of your shapely gams! (LOL) Lucky you in Paris! Have a wonderful visit and scratch Alfred's back for me!

I'm with your daughters here. In fact I would have leant over closer to the newspaper to get a better read. lol that would have really freaked him out.

There is no excuse for anyone being Rude. I wish I could have done what your daughter suggested but I would have done what you did and feel sorry for him. He missed out on having a GRAND flight with a wonderful companion. HE WAS SURE THE LOOSER IN THE FLIGHT. Enjoy your remaining time with your family and catch up with us when you get back.

Paris must be beautiful this time of year, sounds like you're having a great time. I would have definitely said something, can't stand rude people

This world is full of all kinds and I am sorry one of the rude ones had to be next to you. Luckily the flight should not have been so long. Enjoy your visit and we will be waiting for you.
Hugs,
Odie

vintch - thank you so much for featuring me and the little ones my friend . Hope you have a lovely weekend .

Raindrops and Daisies- it seems that most of us would have just kept quiet!

Orchid - hallo my little Japanese friend. Yes, misbehaviour indeed! I think, really, you have to feel a bit sorry for people like that. Hugs.

Dizzy- hi Carol. You're right, we don't always think of these things at the time.

Claudia - I know that you do a lot of travelling, so I'm sure you wouldn't have put up with it!

Manzanita - you're right, men like that are so thick skinned that whatever I said wouldn't have made any difference. I'm sure he didn't think that he was doing anything wrong!

Skippy - hi there. Fortunately it was only a 50 minute plane ride, so I didn't have to put up with him for very long ! Hope all is well with you. Hugs to you.

Shady - I know that you would never be rude to any lady my dear friend. I'm sure you would be a lovely travelling companion! Watch out for Alfred in my Sunday Snaps.

lyndyyLou - that would really have freaked him out. You are very naughty!! But he would certainly have deserved it.

rainbow - I think it's our generation really that keeps quiet. I don't think the younger ones would put up with it. Mind you, if I was young and attractive, he would have probably been very attentive towards me. Hee Hee!

Allessandra - see my comment to rainbow above! Good for you for having the nerve to say something! Thanks for popping by today.

Odie - yes, thankfully it was only a short flight my friend. hope you manage to have a relaxing weekend.

A funny post, although not at the time I am sure! Shame he is not reading this! Anyway you should not be here at all you are on holiday :)

Just another dreadful example of the basic lack of civility these days. I would have told him to back off but learned assertiveness in the cutthroat world of hospital mental health care as a nurse. Do have fun and take pictures.

BECKY said...

Oh, I'm so envious of your wonderful visits to France and elsewhere....but not the idiot on the plane. Rudeness seems to be EVERYWHERE now and I can't stand it, either. Those of us who were brought up to be "nice" and polite usually get walked on by the jerks.BUT, in my old(er) age..ahem..I've become much more vocal about things like that!! You're a sweetie! BTW, I'm back from my bloggy vacation...I missed ya!

Southhamsdarling said...

LindylouMac in Italy- I know I'm on holiday, but I didn't want you to forget me!

Olive - I'd like to have you on my side them!! There is so much rudeness about now, as you say.

Becky - good to have you back! You're right, nice people do seem to just get walked over mow.

I just read an article about psychopaths. Apparently, we all run into one a day! I think you filled your quota with that guy. (Apparently, psychopaths care nothing about the feelings of others.)

Have a lovely time in Paris!

Desiree said...

I just want to rush over and hug you! You are far too sweet...just sitting in silence and putting up with that inconsiderate, rude oaf! I'm normally a nice person myself, but under such circumstances, I would not have been able to suffer in silence! I love the way in which your daughter would have handled it!!! I'd never have thought to do that, but I think in his case, it would have been the best line of attack! I would just have politely reminded him that I had paid for my seat as well and therefore was as entitled as he to sit in comfort. Otherwise, I would have discreetly summoned the airhostess and asked her to deal with him.

Chatty Crone said...

Well hopefully you will have a great time and forget about that pig! I know exactly what you mean and I wish I was more assertive too! Have a great time.

I'm so envious of you being in Paris, but thanks for the postcard. I'm sorry you had to put up with that rude passenger. (I hope he wasn't American.) People truly just don't think about other people.

Oh how lovely to have a post card from you, I'm sure you're having a great time there.
Some people are that rude unfortunately, I am like you - I keep quiet and too modest to speak up. I can imagine that was not a very pleasant flight.
Glad to hear from you :-)

Southhamsdarling said...

Belle - Eeek! That's amazing that we run into one psychopath a day. That's a bit scary my friend. Hopefully I won't meet one on the way back!!

Desiree- that's so sweet that you wanted to give me a hug!! Aaaw, thank you. Yes, I'm so pleased that my daughters aren't wimps! Daughter also said I should have said, " if you want so much room, you should have travelled business class, and not with a budget airline "!

Chatty - as I said above, I'm sure it's ladies of our age who are far too polite to say anything!

Grammy Goodwill - no, he wasn't American! It's amazing how rude some people can be really.

EvaMarie - I see that you would have been quiet like me. It's funny really how we let these people get away with it. Have a chillaxing weekend my friend .

Hi Diane...
I am so thrilled for you...what excitement: Paris, a visit in with your family, Alfred and you can pride yourself on being First Class no matter what section of the plane you are in!

I think you are exactly right someone as socially inept as that idiot wouldn't have been suave enough go get a hint or even a bold remark.

Well done Thisisme...Well done!
Hugs!

Southhamsdarling said...

Sush- you always leave such lovely comments my friend, so thank you for that and thank you for always taking the time to pop across to see me! Yes, he was obviously socially inept, so, at the end if the day , I suppose we should feel sorry for people like that, although it isn't east to feel that way at the time! Hugs to you.

Blessings

Southhamsdarling said...

Becca - it would be a delight to have you along! Together we could fight off all those rude men!! LOL!

Leontien - hi there!Lovely to see you here today. That guy seems to get around then! I see your mum would be like me. You see, our generation were taught not to make a fuss and just be quiet! Hee Hee! My daughters are much more forthcoming, and I'm glad. Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Bethe - nice to hear from you today; You're a braver woman than me then my friend!!!

BB said...

Oh I'm sure you know my mouth would have opened immediately with a jerk like that sitting next to me. Why, why, why are people so friggen' rude? Glad you made it safely and I know how excited you are to see the gang again!

Southhamsdarling said...

Bouncin'Barb - I like that friggen'rude!!! I'm sure that you would have dealt with that rude man in your own inimitable way, but bear in mind, you have much more presence than I do! Lovely to see you back here.
