Sunday Snaps!

Happy Sunday Peeps!! Hope you're all nice and safe in your little corner of the world.  It's lovely to be talking to you again today.  I did stall for a little while with my Sunday feature this week, I must admit, thinking what can I give them for a change, as they must be fed up with snaps of the grandchildren!

Well, as you will see, I'm afraid it's what you've got again this week.  Hee Hee!

This first one is of Eli when he was about 18 months old.  Don't you just love what it says on his little top.  I'm sure that will be true when he's a teenager!!

This second one was taken of Eli when he was just starting to investigate grandma's things!  I have to say that this didn't last very long, after he was told about it a few times, and little Ruby has never once touched any of my china pieces.  I never believe in putting things away when the grandchildren arrive, as they have to learn.

I've just included this one, as I love photos of little ones trying to catch bubbles!

No, this isn't Eli or Ruby! I found this photo of me, which must have been taken in about 1956, as I started taking piano lessons when I was nine.

You will probably remember that I started the year talking about positivity, and that this was going to be my word for 2012.  Many of you seemed to have the same idea, which is wonderful.  However, we would be Saints if we couldn't keep those negative thoughts creeping into our heads from time to time.

I read a very good post from my dear friend Belle (and I know that she is also a dear friend of a lot of my bloggy friends ) who now calls her blog "Tales From A 1960s Flower Child (Now Known as Grandma)."  Don't you just love that title!  Anyway, this is what Belle wrote :

"I'm reading a book called, Living Beyond Your Feelings, by Joyce Meyer. In it she quotes Dr. Caroline Leaf. She has done research on the brain and how our thoughts affect it. Here is a quote I found fascinating."

"I teach people to understand that a thought is a real thing. I think many people think that a thought is merely something out there they can't feel or touch. But, it's actually a real thing. As you are thinking, you are actually building memories in your brain and the thoughts in your brain look like trees."

"The interesting thing is that if the thought is a good one, based on something positive, that it actually looks different in the brain than a negative thought. The toxic thought, as I refer to them, will affect your entire body. They form a different type of chemical than a positive thought. The toxic thought causes little thorns to grow in the branches of the nerve cells. These thorns are a little pocket of chemicals, and those chemicals are toxic. They squirt out their poison that can make you sick. The poison goes to the immune system and breaks down your defenses and makes it easier for disease to germinate in your body."
I have found it really good to actually think of a negative thought as a thorn on one of my branches, and that this thorn can hurt my body.  Since I have been thinking like that, I try to banish that thought immediately, thinking to myself "No! You're not going to make MY body sick."

Now I'm sure many of you might think that this is foolish, but all I can say is, that it certainly pulls me up each time, and so helps me to fill my world once again with positive thoughts.  Thank you, Belle, for passing that on.

So! I hope you enjoyed my Sunday Snaps today, and I trust that you will all have a thorn-free week.  Take care and I'll see you again soon.

Can't believe I actually beat Tom here this time. I guess there is a first time for everything.
We always love pics of your your lovely grandchildren and you really picked some great shots this time. I love the way they come up with awesome sayings on kids shirts.
It's only 5:30 AM here across the pond and sure made my morning when I saw the one of you sitting on the piano stool. You were (and still are) so cute.
It has been kind of a laid back weekend so far except for my excursion yesterday snapping the fish around the area. I cooked a "Summer Corn, Bacon and Potato Chowder" that I found on Pinterest. It turned out really well. I love Pinterest, don't you? Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.
Hugs,
Odie

Oh my! I got much more than I bargained for today. I couldn't pass up seeing a photo of your adorable grandson. And I got to see a lovely photo of you, and get a lesson on being positive. Thorns a great mental picture for negative thoughts. Here's to a happy and positive thorn-free year!

Take every thought captive and use it well as the Bible says. Lovely post. I come from a long line of negative thinkers and have to work hard at this but am better at than when I was younger. hugs, olive

Was Eli really ever that tiny?! That's a really good way to think about negative thoughts. I'm still working on my Happiness Project!

Ooo, is there a race on to beat Tom? I have, too, Odie! I loved seeing today's selection of pictures and must comment especially on the perfect little lady you were even at such a young age. Very gracefully poised, I might add. I loved being reminded of Belle's post. Thank you, Diane. Big hug xoxo

Heehee! Had a good smile about the cute tshirt. Don't worry about us tiring of grandkid pics when the grandkids are as adorable as yours. Loved the pic of you playing the piano. Do you still play?

Also, the info about positivity from Belle is something everyone should know, be reminded of, and should then put into practice.

I like it when you post photos of your grandchildren my friend. I should have our daughter read your comment about not putting all your pretties away when the little ones visit. I believe the same as you do. They should learn not to mess with grandmas pretty things, giggle.............She is always giving me a hard time because there are so many things the younger grandchildren want to touch. I love the photo of you at the piano too, I can almost hear the music. Wishing you a peaceful Sunday xo

Sweet pics....

Especially the one of you...

Whatever helps us, is a good thing. :-)

And of course, we can't always be "Pollyanna" and only have lovely thoughts or feelings. We are human, after all.

But we also have the ability to decide what we will KEEP in our mind. Well, mostly... Everyone knows how we can't get a catchy tune out of our head, from time to time but...

We have choice. And it's lovely to use it.

"Stories never really end…even if the books like to pretend they do.
Stories always go on. They don’t end on the last page, any more than they begin on the first page."

Dear Diane,
Lovely pictures you're sharing with us today ^_^ I like the t-shirt Eli is wearing, he is a cutie.
Our thoughts effects us more than we think [sometimes] and I like you is keeping a positive attitude in 2012. Some people at work has asked me how I do it...well, it's just the way I am I suppose [lol]. It's better to keep a positive attitude than be negative. What you think about expands! [is my fav quote]. Have a lovely Sunday my friend! Big hugs x

I also cannot believe I'm arriving ahead of Tom, or anyone for that matter! I love the pictures, especially the one of beautiful nine year old you! I have a great interest in all kinds of brain studies and will be sure to look up that author. What happens when you live with people who are negative? Do their thoughts add thorns to your trees of thought? If so, I might be dead soon!
Just a joke...hopefully laughter is the cure for thorns. I love that your theme is positivity and kindness. You inspire me! Have a wonderful week Diane:)

Hallo, dear Thisisme! I'm very sorry for showing up late. I had another late night and felt the need to get some extra sleep this morning. It's nearly lunch time here and I'm just beginning my day!

Pictures of your family are always a welcome sight not only on Sunday Snaps but any day of the week. I love to trace their development over time. As I noted in the past, Eli reminds me of a young Rod Stewart, especially with that shirt of his! Children of that age are always drawn to shiny, ornate or unusual objects. They reach for them, pick them up, throw them and break them. It's always a challenge to correct them without provoking an upset. I have a room filled with cactus and you can imaging how exhausting it was for me racing over to stop my grandchildren as they were repeatedly drawn to the beauty of those thorny plants and wanted to touch them.

I am very happy to see that early picture of you, Thisisme. It brought tears to my eyes to see you as a girl knowing what a wonderful woman and great friend you turned out to be.

That post of Belle's was a great one. It's an empowering concept to regard thoughts as things and realize that you have the power to manipulate, turn them off and cast them out at will.

I hope you are having a fine Sunday, dear friend, and that your week will be a great one!

I always enjoy family photos, especially of little ones or ourselves as we once were.

As for negative thoughts, I think that is absolutely true. When something makes me angry, sad or worried, I try to give myself a little time to feel that before deciding what I can do to rectify things. The Serenity Prayer comes into play then and I get go of the negative while concentrating on something good.

No thorns here either! I am growing flowers in my heart and soul, just like you. Happy Sunday over there in England as it is here in Nassau.

Oh honey, I needed to read this post! God bless you for sharing it with us. I will check out your friend's blog.

I struggle with negative thoughts also and am reading, as I am able, about the person who has suffered trauma. Believe me, our brains and bodies are so connected. DUH I guess that sounds dumb to even say. The point is, your friend and you made the point very well. If I keep writing, I will only muddle up what you have said.

I love that t-shirt that Eli is wearing! And, I love the photo of you.

I love the photos of your grandchildren! Eli looks so cute in the t-shirt and I do think the girls will swoon over him in the future. My grandmother always kept her china out. We adored her and I loved looking at her china birds and flowers without touching them.

Thank you for quoting the article and mentioning my blog etc. I really appreciate it! I do hope the image of thorns helps people and I am glad it is helping you. I tried to order the book, but they didn't take Paypal so Sandy is buying two and giving me one. God bless and have a lovely day, Diane

love the pictures!

i agree 150% on the "thought" thoughts. i have a sister who feeds on negativity, vile, vicious behavior. she never lets go of anything negative that has ever happened to her and she hurls it out at her targets (usually, another sister and I). she's 49 but looks years and years only and i think part of it has to be with her constant negative thoughts and how she can "get" someone. needless to say, i avoid all contact with her as i don't need negativity in my life.

have a good week, my friend!

Let's see here - your grandson is so cute and yes those girls better watch out.
What a graceful young girl you were.
And I read Belle's post that day - and I have been saying the same thing for a long time.
We must talk nice to ourselves and be sweet and positive. Self talk. We beat ourselves down way too much. Great post.

Hello piano girl! Didn't you look terribly posh? Love the picture of Ruby in her tutu on your header!

Your post is most interesting. I do believe that the mind is far more powerful than we realise. I like the idea of trees forming, but those thorns are nasty!

Have a special week, with fun and frolics! Love Linda x

Dear Thisisme,

Not only is today awesome, but so are you!
First, the photos are wonderful...never stop sharing them - they are an extension of you, and you are very special!

Your quote was poignant and hits the spot with me...positive thoughts are the only way to go.

Thank you for sharing the pictures, the quote and your essence, which flows so freely through all of it!

I know it's not Sunday, but here I am. Thank you for the thoughts on thoughts, and I believe this to be true. Like, you, I try to push the negative thoughts away, even tho it's sometimes hard. And, every nite when I go to bed, I pick one of my favorite rock and roll songs to sing myself to sleep by. I also place myself on a stage in a very blingy outfit, and actually perform the song myself. One of my favorites is 'Just One Look' by Doris Troy. I have to pick one that I know all of the words to. But, it makes for a pleasant sleep, and no nightmares.

I love Eli's little blue jeans, and, he is sure growing into an even more handsome boy...he'll need a bigger t-shirt like the one he's wearing, Haha!

And, the best yet, is of you at the piano. A lovely picture! Have a wonderful week, Diane...will talk to you soon.
