Afternoon Tea ....

Good morning, Good evening, Good afternoon! Hopefully that will cover all the time zones!

Do you ever go through a phase of losing things?  Well, in this past couple of weeks, I have lost/mislaid two credit cards and a lovely ring with a turquoise stone that I bought in Sicily a few years ago, when I was holidaying with my good friend who is no longer with us.  The ring has just got to be in the house somewhere, because I never took it off outside, but I have searched everywhere.

I felt sure that the two credit cards were in the house somewhere but, although I hunted high and low (also asking St Anthony for his help), nothing turned up.  So yesterday I decided that I had to phone up and cancel both of the cards.  You've guessed it, last evening I found one of them! Grrrrr! Although the other one is still missing.  It is also in the house somewhere, because there hadn't been any untoward transactions carried out on the cards in the past couple of weeks.

As you know, we held our Afternoon Tea here on Wednesday afternoon (I'm afraid I was far too busy to take any photographs!).  The day dawned pretty cloudy, but at least it was DRY and, as most of you know, that was a little miracle in itself.  Anyway, at exactly 2 p.m. the sun broke through and it was an absolutely glorious afternoon.  People were walking around the garden and just sitting and relaxing.  I had Dean Martin playing outside, which people also seemed to enjoy!

I suppose around 35 people turned up, and we raised £300, so I was pleased with that.  As we always say, every penny really does count, as it all goes directly to the Charity.  The Head of Fund Raising for this area always turns up to support our events and she gives a brilliant speech every time, which really helps to rally the troups.  The good thing is that on the first Monday of every month, the Hospice shows members of the public around and everyone who has been to visit the Hospice comes away thinking what a wonderful place it is - for the children, for their siblings, for the parents and grandparents.

I realize every day just how blessed I am with my healthy children and grandchildren, so this is a cause very close to my heart.

The weekend is almost upon us once again, and very soon it will be June.  No! Stop that clock! The year is zipping by far too quickly once again.  At least the month of June will bring all the roses out in the garden, so that will make me happy.

I hope that you are all in fine fettel and that, amidst the hurly burly of the world, you can find some peace and relaxation.  Once again, we have had tragedy, with the terrible devastation caused by the tornado in Oklahoma.  My heart goes out to all those that were affected, and I thank the Lord that we do not have such events over here in our country.

Just a couple of days ago, we had the 25 year old soldier (wearing his Help for Heroes top) who was killed over here by two crazed men, in broad daylight.  Then one is filming the other on his mobile phone and he is addressing the public.  My friends, the world has gone mad and we must make sure that we continue to shine our own little light in our own little corner of the world.

I thought the following prayer was quite appropriate for the times that we live in.

Gracious God,
We pray for peace in our communities this day.
We commit to you all who work for peace and an end to tensions,
And those who work to uphold law and justice.
We pray for an end to fear,
For comfort and support to those who suffer.
For calm in our streets and cities,
That people may go about their lives in safety and peace.
In your mercy, hear our prayers,
now and always. Amen.

See you all again soon.

Diane, just this evening my daughter and I were talking about this same topic. The tragedies you mentioned and in our very own corner of the world three teens broke into a young mother's apartment and brutally bludgeoned her to death while her eight year old daughter was sleeping in the next room. How awful!
i am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the brutality of the world these days.
I do know we have so much good and I need to focus on that, but heavens there are so many things that I just can't fathom.
Hugs big hugs to you dear friend~

Dearest Diane,
First of all, I'm happy to hear that you had quite successful fund raising "Afternoon Tea" for children's hospice☆☆☆
Oh, for sure we all are facing various fears in this world! My heart goes to the victims of the tornado in Oklahoma as well. I always think about all the care and the help from the world when we had "tsunami" 3 years ago in Tohoku region in Japan.

Of course, I'm not a Christian but I'm SO moved by the quote of the prayer you shared today. May God bless us all!!!

I'm sure your ring will soon be found, my dear friend.

Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

Another lovely post my sweet friend and the prayer truly touched my heart this morning. Yes there is way too much hurt and disaster happening all over this world but at this time I also feel so blessed with happy, healthy children and grandchildren. Also where I live rarely sees a tornado and even though we have had some devastating hurricanes in the past it has been a long time since we have actually had one.
Congratulations on the successful event that will help many hopefully.
I can totally identify with you on having things seem to vanish into thin air. I had a very nice pair of kitchen shears that vanished one day years ago and has not surfaced and about a week ago Linda and I bought a set of 2 blue bowls that are about 8 inches across and one of them cannot be found at this time. I sure hope you find that ring that I know means so much to you.
Linda had her carpel tunnel surgery yesterday and is doing well as can be expected for someone who doesn't deal with pain very well.
Hugs,
Odie

Oh, I love the prayer and am in full agreement with it. I was flat out horrified with the brutal murder of the young soldier. I was so impressed with the two women who stood up to them. In the worst of times, great goodness also seems to come out of people.

Your garden party sounds amazing! I only wish I could have been there. Kudos to you for all your good work, my friend!

Hallo, dear Thisisme! That is a wonderful prayer and much needed in these troubled times. Thank you!

Here in my community a soldier who returned home from the war in Afghanistan was jumped by four young men who took turns beating him. It was all done for sport - no reason at all. Fortunately the soldier survived and the culprits have been apprehended.

I am very sorry to learn about your recent lost and found hassles and happy to know that you were not the victim of a burglary. Your story about misplacing valuables reminds me of Mrs. Shady, a busy, productive multitasker who constantly loses her ATM card, her car keys and her purse. Often she leaves items behind in stores but sometimes we find them in the trash! (LOL)

I'm delighted and relieved to know that the weather came through on the day of your charity event. I'm sure that Dean Martin's easy going vocals added to the enjoyment. Bless you for your generosity in helping those in need.

Yessum, June is almost here and we are nearly halfway through the year 2013. Somebody somewhere is speeding up time. In your part of the world summer is fleeting. Where I live it can't come to an end soon enough because it represents an endurance test of blistering heat, humidity, bugs, lightning and months of apprehension over tropical storm systems.

Thank you very much for letting us know that your party was a success, dear friend. Hugs and smooches to you and have a wonderful weekend!

I'm so sorry about losing the credit cards and especially the ring. I hope they turn up soon. I hate to misplace things. I seldom used to do that, but lately, it seems I'm always searching for something.

I'm so glad your tea went so well.

I loved the beautiful prayer you shared. It is one to remember and to pray. Hugs...

Praying for peace with you. That was a lot of money to raise for charity. My daughter just lost her credit card. Don't think she ever found it either. But they usually do show up don't the y? I bet you will find it. Love, sandie

Good morning my friend, I'm reading this a little late :( I hope you'll find your ring, it might be where you least expect it. The days and months passes too quick, was asking my colleague the other day where does the time go?

Waking up to a sunny Saturday here, really hope it stays and there's no wind (fingers crossed)

It's a mad world we live in that's for sure.

Have a great weekend.

Hugs x

Glad your event went so well and you raised that money for charity. That is fantastic! And I love that prayer at the end. You are right, the world seems to get crazier and crazier by the day, and sometimes all we really can do is turn our eyes towards the Lord. Anyway, thanks again for stopping by my blog! I said it over there as well, but wanted to say it here in case you didn't see it there. Have a blessed day :)

Your tea sounds delightful, the weather cooperated, and you benefitted a worthy charity. Your prayer is beautiful and should come off the lips of every person, as the world does seem to be going crazy. Happy weekend!

Hi Thisisme...running late this week. But, I was glad to hear that your tea party was a success!

I wish I had some answers to what is happening in our world. I'm grateful that we've remained safe for a time, and have not witnessed the terror that we see and hear so much about.
And, it scares me to think of what the people in that Oklahoma town must be going through-I hope they can get it cleaned up soon, and, get some much needed help.
Have a wonderful weekend Thisisme. We picked up Scootie last nite and will have him for a few days!

Talk to you soon!♥

Hello, and sorry I am late. I'm so happy your fund raiser went so well. I know the Hospice appreciates the money. I'm especially glad the sun was out.
I love the photos of Ruby and Eli. It reminds me of the time my granddaughter was with me in the garden and ate some fertilizer!

This world is full of goodness and evil. The evil is horrifying. Your prayer is wonderful.
