Sunday Snaps ....

Here I am again with another edition of Sunday Snaps. Something a little different today, as I took these photos during this past week whilst out for a walk with a friend.

I thought you might enjoy them, as it is so typical of a Devon village. This little village is about 35 minutes from where I live, and is called Cockington.

Visitors to this pretty village find themselves transported to a magical land of times gone by. You could almost think that you were on the set of  Midsomer Murders or an Agatha Christie novel! Narrow winding lanes open out onto beautiful chocolate box cottages, old English gardens and thatched gift shops.

This photo shows  Cockington Forge which is one of the most photographed buildings in the country !  The forge dates back to the 14th century. Just before I was born then!!!  Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of the stunning Norman Church which dates back to 1086! If you wanted to get married in the Church, there is only a waiting list of four years!!

Here is the pretty little tea shop, selling the obligatory Devon Cream Teas with delicious Devon clotted cream and locally produced jam.

The little ducks must have thought we were going to feed them, because as we approached the lake, they all started paddling towards us!

This last photo is of the cricket pavilion. The cricket ground provides the venue for many open air events throughout the year, one of which is the annual Last Night Of The Proms, which attracts thousands of people and raises funds for many local charities.

Visitors can also spend a lazy summer afternoon watching the local cricket teams battle it out.

I do hope you have enjoyed your visit to this pretty little Devon village. Has it made you want to visit me in my little corner of the world ?!

See you again soon my friends.

This is the land of the fairy tales! I had no idea that these types of cottages and shops still stood. I love the fluid shapes of the roof tops. An artists dream! Really, this place has magic that you can feel even in a photograph. I also loved the blue sky in the background. And yes, of course I wish I was there!

Hallo, dear Thisisme, and happy Sunday to you, my friend! These colorful pictures are indeed evocative. I derive a sense of calm and order from gazing at them.

When I look at those winding lanes dotted with quaint cottages I imagine Dr. Martin Ellingham bustling by in a characteristically sour mood and running into Louisa Glasson pushing their baby in a stroller.

When I look at the grounds and gardens I imagine Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme roaming about hunting for clues to solve a murder mystery.

When I look at the cricket pavilion and field I imagine the men of Downton Abbey defending their honor with the aid of their secret weapon, Thomas Barrow, who plays with a sticky wicket. :)

This was another enchanting post, dear friend Thisisme. Thank you and have a wonderful week ahead!

How lovely of you to pop in. I have been a bit naughty over the summer, and not blogging much, but it is good to be back. I hope you and your lovely family are all well. Much love to you, Linda x
