On to Cornwall....

After reaching Devon from the Cotswolds, Diane and I just spent a couple of days relaxing, before setting off for Cornwall.  Americans, apparently, are big fans of the British TV Drama, Doc Martin, and Diane really wanted to visit Port Isaac, where the series is filmed. But more of that later...

I must say here that there were two things that Diane found so different from back home in Wisconsin..first of all, she couldn't get over the narrow lanes with their high hedges, so that you just couldn't see what was coming in the other direction!  Perhaps this photo will give you some idea ...and secondly, she was amazed at the HILLS!  Devon and Cornwall ARE very hilly, and these hills invariably lead right down to the sea.

On our drive down through the countryside, we even had to drive through a ford (a ford is a shallow place where a car can cross a river or a stream).  This really was showing Diane the English countryside at its quirkiest, and here is the ford in question ...

To be honest, I'm not sure we should have been on this small country road, but all I did was listen to the very nice lady on the SatNav!!

We stayed at a hotel in Carbis Bay, which was right on the beach.  We had balconies which overlooked the sandy beach and the ocean. It was wonderful to go to sleep with the sound of the waves lapping against the beach.

I'm anxious not to make these posts too long, as I don't want to bore you, so I will leave it there for now. Next time we will visit St Ives and Mousehole.  This quaint little fishing village is actually pronounced "Mowzel", but Diane preferred Mousehole!

See you next time...

Is that a Devonshire tea I see on your header picture, I hope Diane tried one :)
It sounds like you both enjoyed yourselves, what a marvelous time.

I remember a series of books that were set in Cornwall. I thought then that it was a magical place with cliffs overlooking the ocean. I think at one time they made a television mini series about it. I was totally fascinated with the setting, even more than the drama of the characters. So thank you for sharing your pictures! I also wanted to let you know that while we were at our bird club meeting, we met some people who had just moved into a house on our street. The woman is from England! I can't wait to chat with her again so we can talk about all things British. xo

Hi Diana. Well spotted! Yes, it is a Devonshire cream tea, and, yes, this was the actual one that Miss Diane tasted! It was, indeed, a magical time and the memories will last for ever.

Hi Jenny. Yes, Cornwall really is a magical place, in the true sense of the word. Lots of myths and legends, but, like Devon, , it is very beautiful as well. There have been many, many films and TV series set in that County. Also, many books. Gosh, a neighbour from England. Wouldn't it be amazing if she came from the South West like me!

Deep in the countryside. You both had a fantastic time. The Americans and Canadians go mad for Doc Martin and other series we have. I meet them at the bed and breakfast I help out at. Love Port Isaac as you know. Take care.

Hi Anne. Always lovely to see you over here my friend. Yes, we had a super time ! I know, the Americans absolutely love our shows. Perhaps their TV programmes aren't very good! Downtown Abbey is another one they love.

Yikes! I discovered a post I read but didn't comment on! Going backwards is obviously not my specialty! Have a grand time in Michigan! My Mom was born and raised in Grosse Pointe. Married my Dad and moved to NOLA! Her family had a family home on Mackinac Island! xoxox
