Autumn is creeping in ....

Hallo again lovely peeps.  I thought this quotation was particularly appropriate at the moment. How are you all doing out there?  Like everywhere else, here in the United Kingdom the COVID-19 cases are rising again, and many parts of our Country is in partial lockdown once again. It’s difficult to see, at the moment, how this thing is going to be contained, as a vaccine appears to be quite a way off.  So, all I will say, is be careful, stay safe, and take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

I’m writing this to you on the last day of September, and what a dreadful day it is!  Very wet and windy, so what better time than to be cosy indoors and settle down to write a new Blog Post. We are now approaching the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.  I have always loved that expression, and living here in my little corner of heavenly Devon, I actually see it happening, with the blackberries all around and the mists rising over the fields.

I have a fondness for Oscar Wilde quotes, and I think this one is so lovely.  It describes the change of Seasons so well ....

Life sometimes can appear to be very complicated and often we tend to overthink things.  Perhaps we should try to concentrate on the simple things.   Not always easy I know, but we do need to try to block out our worries sometimes and think about what is really important in our lives, and that is never more true than in this year of 2020.

Hold your family close and make time for them ❤️
Take time to live well
Eat ice cream
Pod some peas
Skim a few stones
Go barefoot
Read all afternoon
Tell a story
Find meaning in small things
Watch clouds
Smell the sea
Be quiet
Feel the wind
Open all the windows
Count your blessings
Bake bread
Climb a hill
Send postcards
Turn off your phone
Snuggle in
Have an adventure
Drink wine
Ride a bike (unfortunately I am unable to do this.. I have no sense of balance whatsoever!).
Hang twinkly lights
Enjoy being alone
Like sunshine and showers
Make time for the simple things and appreciate the beauty of your surroundings when you’re out on a walk

Decorating for Autumn is very popular over here now. I know how my American friends used to decorate their homes and gardens when I was staying with them.. it certainly helps to brighten up the darker evenings.  My mantelpiece looks very cosy in the evening when I turn on the twinkling lights.

Talking about gardeners, here are a couple of photos of my Autumn garden. The leaves make a carpet of gold ....

Well, I’ll leave you again for now, and this is what I wish for you all as we enter the new Season (I’m talking here about Autumn, but I’m aware that many of my readers will be appreciating the onset of Spring and the promise of longer days to come!).  Oh!  Remember, it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice ❤️

Love this inspirational post with its quotes and photographs. I like the fall season. it is winter I dread. But for today I will appreciate what is and not dread what is to come. Thank you for the wonderful post.

Your post is so pretty and nice Thisisme! I love Autumn the best, and your mantelpiece decorations give me inspiration. I don't have a fireplace, and I am planning to purchase an electric fireplace for my living room very soon. I will put a mantelpice on the wall above it in order to decorate during season changes. Your autumn garden is so colorful, and I noticed this morning, I am losing some leaves from the trees!

Oscar Wilde says it best, doesn't he! "And, all at once summer collapsed into fall." I hope you are doing well, Thisisme. I can't ride a bicycle anymore either! I am grateful to be able to walk, but I have to be careful there, also.

Our temperature is at 62 right now, but is supposed to climb up to low 90's.

Have a great week, and thank you for your inspiration on "over-thinking"! Sending hugs! ♥

Hi there Linda. Thank you for your lovely comment Linda. I do appreciate it. I’m like you, I don’t like Winter at all! I’m just hoping we have a lovely dry Autumn this year, so that I can get out and appreciate the lovely colours.

Hi Suzanne. Lovely to hear from you, as always. I didn’t have a mantelpiece myself until a few years ago, when we had the wood burner installed! But I do love it, as it’s a real feature of the room. That will be lovely if you can get one installed! Hopefully get it done in time to be decorated for Christmas! Yes, Winter is definitely on the way now. This year seems to be going by so quickly, despite all that has been going on! Look after yourself my Texan friend 💖🍁🍂

I didn't know I was going to need this until I read this today. Thank you for both the reminders of what is important and the quotes about summer/fall changes. I don't dislike early autumn but I do love summer so much, it is hard to let go.

How lovely to see you here Knitty! I hope that all is well with you. It is hard letting go of Summer, isn’t it - especially the longer days! I think, quite often, many of us need reminding just what really is important in our lives.
