I Need Your Help Please!

Hi everyone.  Hope everyone is well.  Eli hasn't been to pre-school this week, as he seems very tired and lethargic still.  He is his usual self for a couple of hours, then it's as if he is wiped out again, and he just flops down and chills for a while.  Next week is half term here in England, so that will be another week that he will have a chance to get really well again, before he goes back to pre-school.

Well, I have a little bit of news for you.  I was getting so fed up with coping with my skin and allergy problems, that, on the recommendation of a couple of friends, I went to see a Kineseologist this morning. The  Doctors haven't been able to help me over the past 40 years, so I felt I had nothing to lose, especially as all conventional medicine seems to be able to do is to keep giving me different creams, which haven't worked at all.

As soon as I heard that Kineseology is based on your Blood Group, I felt very hopeful, as I have always felt that my symptoms should be treated from within.  The Therapist was absolutely brilliant and she is convinced that she can help me.  It was just like a miracle!  She also feels that she can cure all my allergy problems, which means that I wouldn't have the anaphylactic problem to cope with.  I am feeling very positive at the moment, but, obviously, I realize that the proof of the pudding is in the eating!  It's not going to be an overnight thing, as this is something that I have suffered from for 40 years or more.

BUT, the one thing that really surprised me was when she asked me if I took any supplements (vitamins).  I told her that I had been taking a Vitamin E Capsule, an Evening Primrose Oil Capsule and a Cod Liver Oil Capsule for many, many years.  She was horrified, and said that I was putting far too much oil into my body, and that is why my blood is so thin.  It does make you wonder, doesn't it, because I thought that I was doing good by taking these vitamins.  I also have to take magnesium and zinc tablets.

Also, I have a list of foods that is good for me and I list of foods that I mustn't eat.  I think I could be losing a lot of weight here, because I am not allowed to have bread, AND I am not allowed to eat red or white potatoes, although I can eat sweet potatoes (I believe they are sometimes known as Yams).

Now here is where I am asking for your help my little bloggy friends!  I duly bought some sweet potatoes on the way home today, and cooked them mashed.  But I'm afraid that I didn't like them at all - is there a better way of cooking them, can you think of anything other than sweet potatoes that I could try.  Rice and Pasta wasn't mentioned on the list, so I will have to e-mail her about that.

The good thing is, that I can still drink wine, but not tea or coffee.  Just Green Tea with Mint or Nettle Tea with Peppermint.  I think it will be quite hard until I get used to it, but I just have to go with it in the hope of seeing an improvement.

Strangely enough, chocolate and biscuits wasn't mentioned at all on the list of foods, so I will have to ask her about that as well.  (Obviously, I am living in hope here. Hee Hee!!).

We enjoy baked sweet potatoes. Wash them and prick with a fork and bake for about an hour. We add a little butter-some add cinnamon. You can also cut them as white potatoes and french fry them. You could go to foodnetwork.com and type in sweet potato in the search engine and probably get hundreds of recipes.

Hello sweet Thisisme. Good on you for seeking assistance with your skin and allergies. I know too much vit A ( cod liver oil) can cause dry and flaky skin so maybe it is as easy as stopping it. Do a search on toxicity as there are lots of symptoms and a wide variety at that. Can't help u with the sweet potato as my favorite way is with cinnamon and sugar ad butter, which are probably banned too. Clarify those foods and really give it a go as your belief about working from the inside is spot on, especially after u have tried lotions and potions for year. Sorry Eli is not well. Fingers crossed he will e okay...

Dear Diane, I'm so happy to hear that you've gone seeking for help, and that you got such a positive answer. It will be tough in the beginning to get use to your new diet, but if it's for they good it's going to be worth it. Glad you can still take your glass of wine and a piece of chocolate :) I do have some psoriasis and nut allergy myself, perhaps that would be worth trying?! I'm sorry that little Eli isn't feeling well yet. Enjoy your evening my friend. Hugs x

Thisisme - I'm glad to hear from you, although so unusually late in your day to publish. I am still quite concerned about Eli and hope that they can get him back too 100% very soon. I went through many years of diet regulations for my own medical condition, advised to avoid the nightshades: potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, etc. along with coffee, tea and alcohol and many other foods. I am sorry if your new diet plan makes you feel deprived of some of your favorite foods but at the same time I hope that your condition improves so much that you will think it's well worth the sacrifice. I am not much of a cook but I can tell you that Mrs. Shady made baked yams a few nights ago and I loved them. Follow the advice that Olive Cooper gave you. Mrs. Shady always serves them with a wedge of lime on the side for added flavor. God bless, dear friend!

Sweet potatoes, well, I love them, I know we always had them at home with fish, the kabeljauw one, very salty, with the sweetness of the potatoe it's yummy.
Glad to read you are having hope, my girls have a little skin problem too, so I will follow your progress. btw, needle tea is good for you, hope you will adjust to your new eating habit and I hope your grandson will feel a 100% soon, oh and the parcel is on his way to the house with no number....
Night night! Maureen x

What wonderful news This. I am excited for you.

If you bake them you can cut them open and pat with butter and cinnamon sugar.

We also make sweet potato casserole [usually around the holidays] but I will happily send along the recipe. I think you will find it delicious.

I hope Eli is better soon. Hard to watch one that you love be ill. Hopefully his week off will help. Hugs to you all.

Olive - judging by the other comments, it seems that to bake the sweet potato is the way to go. I can eat butter, so will try that, along with the cinnamon. I will certainly go into that website and get some other ideas. Thank you.

Just Martha - Lovely to see you here today. There, I just didn't know about the Cod Liver Oil! That's a good idea of yours, for me to do a search on toxicity. Thank you for your comment my friend.

Suzanne - thank you so much for popping over today and for your advice, which I do appreciate.

Eva - hi my friend. Yes, I feel that I've made a positive step. It's really funny about the things you can or can't eat. I can eat salmon, but not smoked salmon. I can't eat peanuts or brazil nuts (which all the magazines say are really good for you!), but I can eat walnuts and almonds. I get dreadfully tired mid-afternoon, and she said that this would improve that as well, so I've got to go with it.

Shady - Hallo Tom, my dear friend. Yes, I was very late with my post today. Oh I agree, if this all works, it will so be worth the effort. I will certainly try the baked sweet potatoes and add that slice of lime. Thank you my friend. Yes, I do hope that little Eli will be better soon. I think it might mean a visit to the Doctor if he still isn't well next week. Take care.

Daydream Living - thank you Maureen. I'm sorry to hear that you little girls also have a skin problem. It's not very nice. I'm really looking forward to receiving my little package! Thank you so much.

Southhamsdarling said...

Skippy - hallo dear friend. Thank you so much for that advice. I shall certainly be baking them, I've never heard of cinnamon sugar, but I'm sure I can find it somewhere. If you could e-mail me that casserole recipe, that would be fantastic! Hugs to you, and I'm still praying for Spot and that Pooldad will get some good news.

Shelly - thank you so much for taking the trouble to let me have that recipe. I will most definitely try it. Sounds more delicious than the way I had them!! tHANK YOU!

We like Shelly's recipe in our home too. Also thickly sliced and cooked in a pan in a bit of olive oil.
Delicious.
I hope Eli is well today.

Terra - lovely to see you here today. Yum! Another way for me to try these sweet potatoes! Thank you so much for that, and thank you for your good wishes for Eli :)

Hi Diane, I'm sending a little prayer for Eli today, and for you too. When someone I know is going through something difficult I say "angel wings over my loves." So, "angel wings over my loves Diane and Eli." I wish I knew how to prepare sweet potatoes. They're not my favorite but everything tastes better with brown sugar! I hope that the doctor is really able to help you. I had to do away with milk this year and it really limits what I can eat as nearly everything on the shelves have milk added in. I'm finding that feeling better makes the sacrifice totally worth it. All my best and a big hug...

Good Morning Dearest Lady!!!

Firstly, I hope Eli can have his physical energy back perfectly!!!

Oh, dear lady, tough diet. Must be hard to be careful what you eat. Yes, Ms. Olive Cooper gave you a good recipe and advice☆☆☆ I really hope you can find another ones in the foodnetwork.com as she said!!!
As for the rice, I wish you can find it and cooker in your place. Well, hope you can have it!!! We cook them really soft ( I was so surprised with the dry one in Australia)
And various way of having it. When we got sick we have rice-porridge. It might have no taste by itself for you.(I wonder if you have had it.)
Blessing to you and take GOOD CARE of yourself, Hugs to you, Orchid*

Or bake and add marshmallows.

What skin issues do you have - I must have missed that.

Hope you feel better.

Hi Diane..
Well I've read all the tips and the recipes and it pretty much covers how I eat them. I do add them into my pork roast loin recipe in place of white or red potatoes. Just slice them up and scatter them around the roast, along with onions, carrots, celery, fresh sprigs of thyme. Add organic low salt or no salt broth, 1/4 to 1/2 cup dry vermouth and the juice of half a lemon. The alcohol bakes off. Bake the roast as you normally would. To brown the fatty top part of the roast, I start mine at 450 F..(don't know celsius conversion). After 20-30 minutes lower it to 325 F and bake for 10 min per lb. Gives the potatoes a great flavor.

I like them like Shelly's recipe, and then just baked with the butter and cinnamon...I'll have to try Tom's wife's lime wedge that sounds delish!
I've done the roasted in olive oil and sprinkled with thyme...another stellar dish.

I send love and prayers for little Eli..nothing touches are heart like our sweet bebes! Best of luck with the new treatment. A very good blog to go for healthy, vegan and non vegan recipes is: Oh She Glows...found here: http://ohsheglows.com/

Hugs~

good luck with the skin treatments. i have very dry skin.

i'd have a hard time giving up bread but i need to. the pounds aren't going to go away without more effort on my part.

Just don't say anything about chocolate, that way you can still eat it and plead ignorance later...Hope your little one gets better soon. :)

I hope all this works for you. I guess it can't hurt to try. I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes myself either. I will eat them when they are cooked like a french fry. I think that possibly, if I really kept at eating them, I might acquire a taste for them.

I hope Eli is on the mend soon.

Good news for your allergies. As for your question: I use in curry, I made them in the oven as well as Olive said. I think Jamie Oliver had some recipies. I shall do some research for you :)

I hope Eli will be better soon!

Take care my friend!

Glad to hear you are getting some positive help.

It is difficult to take bread out of your diet. I know as my son had to go wheat and gluten free last year.
Is it just bread or all wheat/gluten, as there is gluten in lots of other foods?

Here's hoping your health improves

kneesandpaws - thank you for your lovely sweet comment. I love the one about the angel wings. What a lovely idea! Eeek! I'm not allowed to have milk either, but I was just thinking about milk out of a carton! I can see that this is going to be fun!! :(

melody-mae - thank you so much my friend.

Orchid - hallo my sweet friend! Thank you so much for your good wishes for Eli. I have looked at the list again, and see that I CAN eat wild rice, so all is not lost! Phew!! Hope all is well with you and hubby. Hugs.

Hi Diane! I'm late again...we were away from home all of yesterday and I have not had a free moment since to check Blogger. I'm sorry to Eli is still not well! Rest is the best thing, so I hope he'll recover fully in time.

I do hope your new diet is going to have good results. I could see it would take some getting used to, though! I can't see that you need to lose an ounce of weight, so I hope its not going to be too drastic in your case.

Sweet potatoes cut into cubes and combined with butternut, also cut into same sized cubes and either steamed together till just done, then popped into the oven to bake is a nice way to serve them, but my favourite is always baked/roasted, with or without the skin on. They combine wonderfully with honey and lemon or preserved ginger.

Southhamsdarling said...

Steadfast Ahoy - Hi Rosemary. Thank you for popping over today. I guess it's because I've never had sweet potatoes before. They're almost a little bit like squash, but I shall certainly slice them and bake them as you have suggested. Thank you!!

Chatty - sweet potatoes with marshmallows! Mmmm, they're sounding better already. Thank you. My skin problems are too much to go into really, but the irritation is horrendous, so I've got to give this a try, and she reckons that it will get rid of my allergy problem as well.

Sush - my dear friend. Thank you so very much for all those lovely suggestions. I'm certainly looking forward to trying out all these recipes, starting this evening. Thank you also for your good wishes for my gorgeous boy! It is a worry when they are poorly.

Teresa - thank you! I'm like you. I absolutely love bread, but I've just read the list again and I see that I can have gluten free bread, so I will try that. Just hoping that it isn't going to taste like wallpaper paste!! Hee Hee!!

Alessandra - lovely to see you here today. I like your thinking about the chocolate. LOL! After all, I've got to have some pleasures, haven't I?!

Retired English Teacher - Hi Sally. I think the mistake I made last evening was mashing the sweet potato. I didn't like the texture at all, but with all the lovely ways my lovely bloggies have told me about here, I am hopeful that they will be more tasty!

Gawgus things - yes, Yikes indeed!! See you soon!

Claudia - a curry! Now that's another good idea. Thank you. I'm certainly looking forward to trying the baked version. Thank you so much for saying that you will do some research for me. I really have got the best bloggy friends ever!!

Dizzy C - Hi Carol. Thank you for popping across to see me. The Therapist didn't say to go wheat free or gluten free. It's just certain things that I have to avoid. It's just a case of getting used to it, isn't it? I also now see that I can eat gluten free bread, so that's a big help.

Southhamsdarling said...

Desiree - it's always so good to see you here, whether you're late or not! Thank you so much for your wishes for Eli. Wow! Combining them with the squash and honey & lemon also sounds wonderful. I shall print all these comments off and try all the different ways suggested. You're right, it will take some getting used to, but it will be so worth it if it helps me in any way. I agree though, I really don't want to be losing too much weight!! Hugs my friend and I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Hello! You can make your own cinnamon sugar by combining sugar and ground cinnamon to taste.
Good luck with a very restrictive diet!

Hello Dear Diane! I, too, hope that whatever you try will work wonders for you, physically and mentally! I always go to the internet when I want some specific recipes. There are hundreds of sites and you can narrow it down to get exactly what you want. Same goes with medical questions. I like to search on www.webmd.com, but I also have a wonderful primary doctor that I listen to. It took me years to find her, though. Well wishes and hugs to you! Keep us posted! And, I'm so sorry to hear about little Eli. I do hope he is seeing the right doctor(s), too.

so sorry to hear eli still isn't feeling well sending love his way.

as for the sweet pottoes we eat them any way they come mashed, baked, roasted, in french fries and even in casserole form. I'll have to check my recipe box to see what I can find.

Becca - thank you my friend. I'm afraid I didn't like them mashed at all - I didn't like the texture. Still, I am hopeful of the baked and roasted recipes! Have a lovely weekend. Hopefully Eli will be fully recovered next week :)

Oh, my. I'm sorry to hear that Eli isn't feeling well. I hope he improves soon. I'm glad you got some answers that will help you. I LOVE sweet potatoes. I cook them like I cook regular baked potatoes and add butter - probably too much butter! Yummy. I also like sweet potato fries. I hope you find a way to fix them that you like.

Hello Thisisme - you will learn to love sweet potatoes. Bake for close to an hour, add a little butter and they're yummy. I'm not much for cinnamon with mine, but a touch of brown sugar is good if they're not quite sweet enough. Hope all will be well for you, my friend.

Belle said...

Sorry I am so late, Diane. I like to slice sweet potatoes thinly, put them in a plastic bag and dribble oil on them. Lay them out on a baking pan and salt them and cook till done. I also like them cooked with brown sugar and butter.

I am praying for Eli right now. I am so sorry he isn't well. I pray the doctors will find out what is wrong.

This is interesting Diane. I've never been one to take too many 'supplements' and there are many downsides to loading our bodies with capsules.

About the yams, we have them here in Malaysia and the only way we do them is mashed! We mix them with white potatoes but you can't do that. How about boiling them and dipping in (a little!) sugar?

Running a bit behind myself. I am so sorry about Eli. It's so hard on a young child to be ill. You feel so helpless for them. I sure hope he's better soon.

As for you-hmmm. I don't eat swee potatoes much, but I like them peeled, cut and baked with butter and brown sugar. Then, before you take them out, put marshmallows on top and let them brown and melt. I don't know if you're allowed marshmallows, but it is yummy! Also, if you're allowed acorn squash, it's good cut in half, and baked with butter and brown sugar. Hope you find solutions that help you-better late than never. Take care, hugs to Eli!

Southhamsdarling said...

Grammy Goodwill - yes, I hope Eli will be better soon, and I hope that I do like the sweet potatoes cooked in a different way! Enjoy your weekend.

Pearl - hallo! Baked it is then! Hee Hee!! Lovely to see you here today. Thank you for popping across. I'm delighted to hear that positive news about the Kineseology, which gives me even more hope. Thank you!

Glenda - hi my friend. Lovely to see you. I've just realized that cinnamon is off-limits anyway, so it will have to be the brown sugar! Hope all is well with you.

Belle - no need to apologize for being late my dear friend, and I so appreciate your prayers for little Eli. The way you cook the sweet potatoes does sound delicious, so I will definitely be trying that. You are often in my thoughts.

Duncan - hi there. Good to see you! I just didn't like them mashed at all. I think your idea of just boiling them would be good, and then putting some brown sugar on them. Really appreciate you popping over. I obviously made a big mistake with the vitamin capsules!! :( She said that they had thinned my blood so much and that is why I always have bruises over me.

Susan - hallo my friend. Thank you so much for the advice and thank you for thinking of Eli. Another suggestion for having marshmallows and brown sugar with the sweet potatoes. They're sounding better already!! I guess they are an acquired taste, but I've got to stick with this regime. Thank you again, and I do hope that all is well with you.
