Sunday Snaps

Hi there everyone.  I hope you are all managing to have a relaxing weekend with those that you love.

Oh! I did show hubby the post I wrote about him when I was last here, and I could see that he was quite touched by it, and he said "thank you"!  I think I might have earnt some brownie points there. Hee Hee!!

I know that it's my Sunday Snaps post today, but, first of all, I've  noticed that I have gained a few new Followers recently, so I would just like to say to them "thank you" for taking the trouble to follow my Blog - it's lovely to have you on board!  I don't know if any of you have noticed the same thing, but I find that new Followers seem to come to me in little groups.  When I get one new Follower, a couple more always seem to pop up within a few days!

Do you like the new shopping bag I recently bought, for my food shopping?  I love the colour and I love the quotation.  In my case at the moment, I think it should read "If Music be the Food of Love, EAT on"!  I don't know what's wrong with me at the moment, but since New Year, I have just been SO hungry all the time and, you know what it's like, for quickness, you always pick up the wrong thing! Eeeek!! I shall have to stop, otherwise a very tubby Thisisme will start appearing on your screens!!  Anyway, enough of this jollity - here is my new bag!

Whilst looking through some things in the week, I came across some more vintage (or, in another word, "old"!!) photos, of me when I was a little girl, so I thought you might like to see them.  Bear in mind, we are talking about the early 1950's here.  The thing that always amazes me is how my dad is always dressed in a sports jacket and a collar and tie, even when we are obviously on a casual day out, playing with the ball and having a picnic.  Times have certainly changed!!

I always seem to have the obligatory bow of ribbon in my hair in most of my childhood photos!  Check out the car in the photo with mum and I.  (Mum doesn't look too happy, but I don't think that people used to smile quite so much when they were having their photos taken 'in the olden days'. LOL!).

I can still remember my dad spending hours with me, trying to teach me how to catch the ball, and him saying "watch the ball".  I was never very successful, I'm afraid, and that seemed to start the sorry story of me and any sort of sports!  I was never into sports I'm afraid.  Probably stemmed from when you had to run around a freezing cold hockey field in your navy blue serge knickers.  Happy days - NOT!!! I have always enjoyed watching sport though.  I know my place!

Well, that's it for this edition of  Sunday Snaps.  I hope you have enjoyed looking at them.  To me they represent a different era - a somehow more gentle, mannerly era.  See you again soon little peeps!

Fun pics This! Love the bow. :) I suffered the curse of ringlets as a child. My mom would do up my hair in rags each night to get the perfect ringlets. It never stayed in for long, but she was happy.

Now, either I am up late or you are up incredibly early. Hope you are enjoying a nice cuppa'. If my girls would get in bed I might be able to also. Oh well, their last night together so they want to hang out. :) Who can blame them?

Hallo and happy Sunday to you, dear Thisisme! Congratulations on pulling new followers into your orbit. No one is more deserving than you. I can't think of any other blogger who changes her header, layout and font style as often as you. I very much enjoyed seeing the shot of you and your recent visitors out for a walk with my buddy Alfred. I also loved seeing the pictures of you as a child. They melt my heart. I still insist that you looked a lot like Shirley Temple. That cute little girl grew into a warm and kindhearted woman loved around the world. I was just discussing with our friend Shelly how people dressed up more often decades ago. I agree with Shelly that dressing nicely even when you are not required to makes you feel better and perform better. Have a wonderful Sunday, my dear friend. It's off to bed for me!

I am so glad you showed your last post to your hubby. They need to know the good things we think about them, don't they?

Your pics are lovely. I just blogged tonight about a memory I had when I was very young and how people dressed up so much more then than what they do now. It's a pity that we've all become so informal.

Good morning, Thisisme! Your bag is very cute and I loved seeing the pictures. I have a few pics of me in ringlets too. How nice of your dad to play ball with you and he also had a nice car there. I remember the old days when girls always had to wear dresses. It was cold on the legs in the winter, even in California. We wore dresses playing baseball as I remember. Have a lovely day, dear friend.

I loved this post! That car is so awesome! Don't you just love all the cool clothes everyone wore in the 50's? My dad always looked liked yours in our photos too...I had the long hair that was never cut until I was10 (only trimmed every summer) so I had hair past my behind and ALWAYS had a ribbon or headband in it! Thanks for the awesome walk down memory lane.

Dear Thisisme,

How I love reading your posts - and yes, those years, of long ago, were definitely a more "gentle, mannerly era" - I could not have described it more eloquently!

I look back on those times, and wonder if, in fact, we weren't the lucky ones! These times our children (and grandchildren) are growing up in are far from gentle and mannerly, and far less innocent!

Wonderful, wonderful post!

Dearest Diane,
Oh, I love your new bag and quotation♬♬♬ I might prefer "eat on!" as well, haha. And now I finally not fogetting to bring socalled "eco bag", whew...
I really LOVE your pictures with your parents. And Cute ribbon♡♡♡
Oh, how sweet you dad was♬♬♬
My dad also tried to spend time with us. And when I boldly got into tennis club entering junior-hi thinking to strengthen my tiny boby, he helped me practicing a lot. Haha, I was the same kind of girl and sport is not for me. I quit the club a couple months later. He still led me outside to do it for exercise.
It sure was a wonderful car and "no" she looked happy with you.
Love and Lots of Hugs to you, xoxo Miyako*

I love the treasury of photos from your childhood. And I think that I see just the barest hint of a smile in your mother's face, maybe in her eyes and the corners of her lips. That your father was a patient teacher is a touching memory. My dad would take us into the yard and practice with us during the years my brothers and I played on our community baseball and softball teams. He would say "keep your eye on the ball" which was kind of silly. I missed a lot of balls thinking about how ridiculous that seemed. Have you noticed I take things very literally? It is also a little bit alarming that the world my children will experience is growing ever less mannerly. Neighbors and people at church, school and town used to use outings as opportunities to connect with one another, to be supportive and helpful. I don't think my neighbors would care at all if I needed help.

First, let me wish you and your family a healthy and good 2012! Lovely post about your husband, we indeed tend to forget to give them praise more often. And since I've been to the UK, M&S is one of my favourite stores now, enjoy the week!

I love seeing 'vintage' photos from our era - 1950s. Like you, my sister and I always had a ribbon bow in our hair. I think the '50s were a lovely decade to grow up in.

I love your new bag, and congratulations on your newest followers! But, most of all, your photos are the best! And, you're still as cute as you were then! As you said, those times were different. As you, when I was young, we dressed up when we left the house, even to go to the grocery store. We wore dresses, and my dad wore sport coat and tie just to go to the local cafeteria for dinner. My brother never wore jeans to school, always slacks. I didn't get to wear jeans around the house until 1965.

It's funny...even on TV commercials, when a woman advertised a mop or some type of kitchen cleaner, she was wearing a dress and heels! Now, you can even wear jeans to church, but I think its ok, and I'm pretty sure God doesn't mind! Happy Day my friend!

I love seeing old photos like the ones you posted. You were a very cute little girl and it sounds like you had a wonderful daddy. I love the ringlets in your hair! I really enjoyed that post you wrote about your husband. I read it in Google Reader on my phone and couldn't comment but it truly touched my heart and made me think a lot about my own marriage and how wonderful my husband is in so many ways, so I thank you for that. It's true that we should never take the people in our lives for granted.

Love the ringlets and bow. My mother used to cut my hair by putting a bowl over my head so she got a straight cut. You are right about a gentler era. I remember when people used to wear hats and gloves to church. Thanks for sharing the photos.

You were the most adorable little girl and clearly the golden apple of your father's eye! I loved your intense concentration while waiting to catch hold of that ball. I, too, was useless at all sports. My senior school tennis report claimed I played a lethargic game. I was a hopeless swimmer! Still am :)
