Very Quiet Around Here...!!

Hi my lovely little peeps! Hope you're all doing well, and survived the new year's celebrations.  Mine was very sedate - hee hee! That's quite a nice word, isn't it, "sedate!".  Definition - Serenely deliberate, composed and dignified in character or manner.  There you are then, that's me to a tee!!

My daughters would very soon tell you that 'serene' I am not.  I am usually rushing around like a bull in a china shop and, apparently, getting stressed out.  I hasten to add that I never feel that I am stressed - I think I just rush around a lot and leave everyone else feeling frazzled!!

I also worry about silly things, like, "will I find a parking space?" So, my little bloggy friends, this is the "new me" writing this little missive.  One that will NOT try to do everything, and who will NOT get impatient if someone else doesn't do it right away!

Emma (daughter in France) thinks that perhaps this could be the cause of some of my skin problems, so it's certainly worth giving it a go, don't you think?!

This morning, I have taken down all the decorations and, instead of heaving them all up into the loft, I have them them at the top of the stairs, ready for hubby to put them away.  I have also sent him up the shop for some shopping.  Hubby doesn't 'do' shopping, so I am quietly sat here chuckling away to myself! When I had my two serious back operations, he used to be up at the Supermarket for over two hours, with his little list.  One time, he was gone for hours, and it turned out that he had searched the shop several times for peach rolls.  What I had actually written down was peach T. Rolls - i.e peach toilet rolls!!

Well, the family left first thing this morning on their journey back to France.  It's quite a while in the car.  They left at 8 a.m. and will arrive home at around 5 p.m.  The car was absolutely packed to the rafters - AND they had a top box on the roof which was full up.  Mind you, if they will insist on buying a 51" television in the sale, what can they expect?!  For a minute, it looked as if either Eleanor or Alfred would have to be left behind!  I'm just hoping that they don't have to have a comfort stop, because when they open the doors, everything will just fall out, that's how much they have in there!!  The house is very quiet again now - AND empty!!

I'm always glad to get the text to say that they have arrived home safely.

'Bye for now.  Take care ....

I really like your idea for not worrying so much in the coming year. It really accomplishes nothing so it has to be better. Really do feel for your family having that 9 hr. drive especially with a jammed packed car. Now you'll have to get used to all the extra space you have at your lovely home with family & possessions headed for France. Today is Linda's birthday so we will be taking her to the Chinese restaurant where her daughter works for lunch. It is another gorgeous day here so it should really be a good one with a short week ahead to work. About mid afternoon there so have a great rest of the day.
Hugs,
Odie

I always wait for that little text too so that I know they are back safe and sound.

Let me know how the not worrying and stressing so much thing works out. I need to do the same thing. But I don't see it happening. For me it's a control thing- if I don't stress over it or worry about it, something bad might happen. LOL

Is your quiet deathly? Mine is. But I'm getting used to it again. So glad Christmas was wonderful and the family was there! It makes it all worth it, doesn't it? (Geez, how many times can I use the word 'it' in one sentence?)

Being serene and sedate are really worthy goals. I used to be so high wired that I couldn't sleep much, thinking about all the things I needed and wanted to do. It's much better for our bodies and souls to take life gently.

I chuckled at the thought of all they packed into their car. We kind of felt like that when we got back from out Christmas trip. Our car heaved a sigh of relief when we got the last load of stuff out.

Happy 2012 to you, my friend!

I agree with Shelly that it is better for our bodies and souls to take life gently. It must be sad for you to have your house feel empty again. I don't like that feeling very much, although it is good to go back to the ordinary routine of daily life. Wishing you peace, love and the very best of everything this New Year!

Hallo, Thisisme! I realize that sitting there in an empty nest after all that holiday hoopla can leave you feeling blue. It happened to me the other day when the last of my guests departed. It happens to all of us. Look at it this way. You have those marvelous pictures to trigger golden memories of Christmas 2011 and the countdown has already begun for the next family visit.

I am determined to take a more laid back approach to life this year. I tend to whiz around like you do and it makes me appear tense even when I'm just trying to stay ahead of the game to buy myself more leisure time.

As I've told other blog friends I watched the Woody Allen movie Midnight in Paris on New Year's Eve and enjoyed it very much. It's a dialogue driven romantic comedy with beautiful period costumes, music, and breathtaking Parisian cityscapes. I recommend it to you and Emma and other members of your family who have not yet seen it. Have a wonderful day, dear Thisisme!

Your hubby sounds like mine when he is trying to get the shopping list just right. :) My mom used to write actual directions on the list [i.e. go to aisle 2, turn left, go halfway down the aisle. . .etc.] for my Dad. We laughed, but it worked.

I do miss grocery shopping. The one time I got to do it this past month I almost fainted from the prices. Jiminy crickets stuff got expensive in a year.

All our Christmas stuff is still up. We are having too good a time goofing off, but it will get done. Soon. heehee

Pooldad & Wallene are back to the grind tomorrow, but I have Squirrel until next week. So, not quite empty yet.

Enjoy the quiet. Don't miss 'em too much. [I know, I know]

Dear Diane,
I can imagine that it's a big change now, when your family has gone back to France and it's all quiet all around the house again. But before you know it they will be back there visiting again :)
That's a great idea, not running around worrying about things ;) it takes a lot of practice but it's worth it in the end [believe me]. It'll also help you to feel more at peace [in a way]. Enjoy your Monday evening my friend!
Big hugs from Dublin x

I'm picturing the stuff falling out when the doors open or someone asking "where's Alfred"? That is just too funny. I'm sure they feel the drive home and away from you is a long sad one! Until next time though. It will be here before you know it. And I am loving your new outlook. Don't sweat the small stuff! Hugs to you my awesome friend!

less stressing and worrying could help alot. I know some people break out in hives when they stress so maybe being calm will help.

hope family has safe travels let us know when they make it home all safe and snuggled.

Oh my Dear, I too would think that your way of rushing, doing, rushing, doing... Plus worrying.... Could add to, if not cause, your skin problems.

I'm amazed that some doctor has not said this to you, already.

Good habits beginning for the New Year.... Stopping all that rushing, doing, rushing, doing... And worrying. :-)

Lots of gentle beginning-the-New- Year-hugs...

"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God
who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect
has intended us to forgo their use."

~ Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)

I have also given up worry and fretting. Whenever I start to worry I think, "Don't worry about anything." which is what Jesus said. This helps me so much.

Worry can cause skin problems. My sweet grandson Jordan used to get psoriasis when he was in school. When he quit school it went away. He can't read very well and he felt stressed and unhappy.

It must be hard to say goodbye to your wonderful family. I'm picturing them crammed into the car. Oh my. May they have a safe and fun trip home!

Leave those boxes. Don't carry them. I slid down the stairs today. I won't be undecorating for a while.

I hate when the house is empty again, but then again it's always a bit crazy when everyone is home.

Hello lovely girl, 'don't worry, be happy'! Easier said than done sometimes isn't it. I wish you all the best with your resolution. I am sure that because you have told everyone they will help you with it.
It must be awfully strange at your place with the decorations away and everyone gone home. Still, some time for quiet contemplation! Have a great week, with much love, Linda x

I know what you mean - you just want to know they got home safely and then you can relax.

Have you ever thought - and this is my goal this year - to be in the present - at all times - then you can't worry- I'm just working on it now. It makes sense to me.

Oh to be able to drive from my house to France in nine hours - bliss!

I know for you it's a worry (I relate, I'm a mother too) but oh...what I'd give to have so much of Europe at my fingertips!

PS love the peach T roll bit - too cute! At least he tried, right!

Lovely, heartfelt post!

"Sedate", what a wonderful definition this word has☆☆☆ It must be wonderful to have Serene and peaceful-mind life. I am a little working bee, haha.

Take Care of yourself and wishing you a happy and healthy year!!!

ps. Thank you very much for your lovely comment as usual. I am a little camera-shy p;)

happy new year, sweet friend! i love your resolution. i, too, struggle with taking on too much and worrying about just everything! you've inspired me to let some of that go-to be content in the moment and just enjoy it:) doesn't it feel so, so good? almost as good as getting all the decorations down!

Not worrying is easier said than done, isn't it? Especially when you are a parent - regardless if the "children" are 75. :)

Happy New Year to you ! ...Marsha

No worry. Now that is a wonderful resolution for the new year. I used to be quite a worry wart. But over the past four years I have changed that part of my life dramatically. I still worry a bit. But nothing like I used too. Biggest hugs! P.S> happy they arrived home safe and sound and with all of their treasures too
