Week Going Well So Far ....

It can't be Thursday again already, surely?!  Here we are, hurtling towards the end of another week...

I went to the cinema with my friend on Tuesday evening, to see Steven Spielberg's War Horse.  This film is set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War.

Beautifully shot throughout, this really is an epic film, and one that I would have no hesitation in recommending to you.  In fact, I would go so far as to say it is a "must see" film.  You might also be interested to know that all the scenes shot before the horse goes to war, were filmed on Dartmoor (a National Park), which is only ten minutes away from where I live.  I think you will enjoy the scenery! As I was watching the film, I knew that hubby would really appreciate it, so we are going together on Sunday afternoon!

I have to confess that I didn't know just what those poor horses went through during that war.  All I will say is, "don't forget to take your tissues along" - well, the ladies anyway!

Shortly before Christmas, my friend Claudia over at The Story held a giveaway, and, guess who won?! I received this lovely pair of ear-rings, so thank you for that Claudia.

Another really delightful bloggy friend of mine is called Jenny, over at kneesandpaws.  She has an Etsy shop, and I had seen these delightful little hand made cottages on a recent blog post from Jenny.  I thought that they were so cute, that I went right in and placed an order.  They arrived yesterday, and they just look so sweet, with the little L.E.D. nightlights inside them.  Perfect, in fact, for a night light for a child's room, or just to display on a shelf or window sill.  I love them!

I'm going out to lunch with another friend today, so, as you can see, I'm trying to make the miserable month of January as exciting as I can! Oh, and on Saturday evening we are going to friends for a meal.  All this food - Eeeek!!

"I'm at the age where food has taken the place of sex in my life. In fact, I've just had a mirror put over my kitchen table". Rodney Dangerfield - not "thisisme".

Thank you for all the replies about commenting on blogger at the moment, and for all the suggestions.  It seems that quite a few of us have the same problem at the moment :

Hi Diane! I just loved this post. I, too, want to go see War Horse. I rarely go to the movies, but this one is a Must See, I do believe, as you said! The scenery is so beautiful, too. Were you able to watch any of the filming?? I LOVE the Rodney Dangerfield quote!! TOO funny!!! :D Enjoy the rest of your week...and as you said, time is hurtling by....

I had heard it was a great film. I must check it out sometime.
It seems every time Blogger tries something new, things get messed up for a bit.
Hope you get it sorted

The hubs and I are going to see War Horse this weekend. I've already prepped myself for a good cry during it. It will be wonderful now to look for those scenes that were filmed so near you!

Jenny makes absolutely beautiful things, and I got some myself! She is so very creative.

I do hope Blogger settles down soon. It's been giving me fits lately.

Based on my recent post you should know how much I love Rodney Dangerfield's humor, Thisisme. I saw dozens of his monologues and that joke was one of his best. Jenny's houses are a simple yet brilliant concept. They ooze charm and look great on display in your home. I definitely intend to see that movie because both Mrs. Shady and I love historical dramas, war movies and movies about animals. I will need my own box of tissues because, as Sue Thompson sang, sad movies make me cry. Have a wonderful Thursday, dear friend Thisisme!

Hi Diane,
Thank you for sharing the little houses with your blogging friends! I'm so happy that you are pleased with them. It was my pleasure to send them your way! I'm also going to put War Horse on the list. It looks fantastic. I love movies that make me cry because they help me to appreciate my own life so much more. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week. Take care, Jenny

So glad you are really making the most of this dull month of January!!! Hooray for you!!!

And lucky you!!! Blogger did NOT install that *new comment thingy* here!

I didn't even want it, and Blogger still installed it, in my blog comments. And now, many of my Dear Readers can't comment in my blog.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, PLEASE read at the TOP of my Sidebar. And click on the link, I give there.

Please and thank you!

Gentle hugs,
A "Grumpy" Auntie

I've heard that War Horse is a really good movie, but we rarely (once in 6 years)go. Perhaps I can talk hubby into going so I can see it and look for that beautiful scenery.
(Then I'll be thinking of you as well.) Did you get those cute little houses in preparation for the grandkids' visit? Have a wonderful weekend.

I haven't seen it yet - but it seems like everyone else has! I'm going eventually.

Love the earrings and gifts - you were a lucky gal.

Rodney Dangerfield - I don't get no respect!

What a wonderful week you have shaping up. I am so anxious to see "War Horse" - perhaps I will surprise Pooldad & Wallene on Saturday - do you think it would be okay [not too sad] for Wallene? Goodness knows Momma will be bawling her eyes out. :)

Enjoy your weekend. And try not to wear yourself out! heehee

I am slowly getting back to blogging. Your blog today was a delight to read.

We saw War Horses also and loved the movie. The scenery was just amazing, and I am so excited to hear it was filmed so close to where you live. I just loved it.

I need to get well and visit England again. The film made me really want to make the trip to see that beautiful part of the world again.

My friend told me yesterday, that her mother once said if you can make it through January, you can make it through anything. That should be our goal this month. Make it through January! If you can do it by going to lunch with friends, all the better.

Thankyou for coming to my little party, it was fun! Love Linda x

I think that film might be a bit too emotional for me! Love the little houses Jenny's made - I see she's made one for Valentine's Day :) If anyone has a smart phone, they can leave comments via that if they're having problems on their laptops. Not ideal but a work around for anyone who can! Just rolling around my carpet at the mo ;)

You certainly are out and about this week my awesome friend. Good for you too! Glad you enjoyed the movie and now a date with hubby. Love it. Those cottages are precious. Would love a couple of them but that has to wait for a bit. Enjoy the rest of your socializing!!! Hugs.

Oh, I love those little cottages. I tried the link associated with kneesandpaws and it took me to a blank page. I would love to see her Etsy shop.

We're hoping to see the War Horse this weekend. The commercials are brilliant!

Linda & I want to see that movie too and it should already be somewhere near here. Will have to do some driving this weekend going to a funeral for the MIL of one of my technicians. I have also known her for quite some time and have been friends of the family for years so it will be a sad time. We have to be supportive. I am sure those earings look awesome with you modeling them. Have a fabulous weekend and I will be looking for Sunday Snaps.
Hugs,
Odie
