Out With The Month Of January - In With The Month of February

Hello there once again. It's rather lovely, isn't it, to think that January is out of the way for another year.  I must admit, I did rather enjoy turning over the Calendar this morning, from a snowy, wintery scene to a photo of banks of snowdrops....

Our National Trust properties in the UK are lovely places to visit in February and March, as they have delightful woodland walks, which are full of snowdrops and other early flowering bulbs.

February, of course, is the month of love and romance, with Valentine's Day falling on the 14th of the month. All around the world, flowers, gifts, and tokens of love ❤️ are given to loved ones, all in the name of Saint Valentine. Not a bad way to be remembered down through the years, is it?!  I know that a lot of people will be reading this, and thinking "stuff and nonsense!"  Others will be thinking "but we shouldn't need a special day to show our love to someone. We should do that every day."  Of course, that's true, but it's a dreary old time of the year, so I see no reason not to make the 14th February a day of celebration.

Yes, even at my age, I'm still an old romantic at heart. My two favourite black and white films are "Now Voyager" starring Bette Davis and Paul Henried, when Bette, as Charlotte Vale, says to Paul, as Jerry, ......wait for it....

"Oh, Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars". It was in the days when the man lights two cigarettes and hands one to his love. I've actually just watched the clip in YouTube.... it gets to me every time!!

The second film is the 1936 film, Camille, when Greta Garbo and Robert Taylor play the roles of Marguerite and Armand. I can happily weep buckets when I watch this film!!

Well, I think I'd better end there, before I get too carried away!  I'm sure I'll be popping in again this month with some more romantic bits and bobs.  Do hope you can join me. At least it takes us away from what else is happening in the world right now

Cheerio and Toodle-pip!

I like January .. the time is going too fast. Cannot believe it is February already. Bit scary for me, as time is flying and I need to leave the house in 6 weeks. :-( I love your calendar too.xx

Gosh, Anne, I can imagine how you must be feeling very apprehensive at the moment - it's a very worrying time for you, and I do so hope that everything works out for you. Keep positive my friend x

Hi Thisisme! What a lovely post! I'm a hopeless romantic myself. Most evenings, Scooter and I eat in my small dining room, and I light a candle! Most of the time I have fresh flowers on my table too. He had never eaten by candlelight before, so it has been a new experience for him. And, oh, the time is flying by as you say! I agree, we need new and fun celebrations to ward off the bad vibrations happening around us! Happy February, Thisisme! Hugs from Texas!

Hi Suzanne. Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed this post and that you're a hopeless romantic too! I absolutely love that you light the candle in the dining room and that you enjoy having flowers around. I think that is really lovely for Scooter to now be in that warm, secure environment. Yes, let's make life as pleasant as we can for ourselves! Sending hugs right back to you from here in heavenly Devon. 😊

Hello Diane, you old romantic you! You just can't beat those old movies for glamour and romance. I rather like romantic comedies, Doris Day and Rock Hudson, or 'Somethings gotta give'. I think everyone feels relieved that January is over.I certainly do! Wishing you a February filled with flowers and romance! Love, Linda xx

Thank you Odie! I can't believe the good friendships that we have made through blogging. They are rather special, aren't they? Have a good weekend my friend.

I do love the old black and white movies. They will always offer so much more, in my opinion, than anything in the modern era has to offer. I'm a hopeless romantic as well. And I enjoy it via those old black and white movies. My list is long and I'm ever grateful for them!

Hello Diane,
thank you for your visit and kind comments. I am glad you enjoyed my little treasures. Lois is such a young lady now, with her own ideas, opinions and tastes. She is still animal crazy and volunteers every Sunday at the local animal sanctuary. She even used her powers of persuasion on us to take on a 3 legged Collie from the sanctuary, so we are now a 2 dog household! Time does pass so quickly! Have a lovely weekend. Love Linda xx

Hi Pam. Always lovely to see you over here! So we are two 'old' romantics together. You're right about those old black and white movies. They really were a bit special, weren't they?! Just us being nostalgic I suppose. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment 😊
