Almost the end of Summer ......

Here I am again then, writing this Post on the last Bank Holiday of the year here in the UK.  How I wish we had Thanksgiving, or something similar, to look forward to, between now and Christmas.  There, I’ve uttered the ‘C’ word, and it’s only August.

In a couple of weeks, the children will be returning to school, at the start of a new school year, with a new Teacher to guide them through the next year, and so time rolls inexorably on.  I find it amazing sometimes to think that I am in the eighth decade of my life, but having lost close friends along the way, I am also very grateful to still be here to enjoy life.  I mentioned around 18 months ago, when I celebrated my 70th birthday, that they say that when you are in your 70’s, you are in the sunset of your life.  Well,  visiting my number 1 daughter and granddaughter in Ibiza a week ago, I was blessed to view a wonderful sunset.  As number 2 daughter and her young children were also with us, it made it doubly special.

We have had a long, hot Summer this year, with cloudless blue skies during the day, and balmy Summer evenings.  What a wonderful treat!  Whilst I have enjoyed these lazy, sunny days of Summer, am I the only one who is now looking forward to the evenings drawing in, lighting the lamps and making the home a warm and cosy place, with the onset of Autumn 🍂,  putting  away the sandals for another year, and going back to wearing boots and long trousers.

Each Season holds something very special for us to look forward to,  whilst we also reflect on Seasons past.  Perhaps that is one of the signs of getting a little older - reflecting on memories of times gone by.

Having said that, I also like to look forward - forward to making more memories with family and friends, and to realise how blessed I am.

Toodle pip for now.

I try to savor every moment, Diane. I’m 65 and my mom had a totally handicapping stroke that robbed her of her speech at 72. I’m not taking anything for granted.
Those sunset pics are breathtaking. I think it’s a beautiful time of life to be in

Hallo Grammy Goodwill! So lovely to see you here and thank you for leaving a comment. That’s so sad about your dear mum. As you say, life is fragile and we just can’t take anything for granted. Look after yourself.

Hi Jo-Anne. Gosh, it’s been a while ! Of course, you’re in a different Season from us. I’m sorry you’re feeling so tired - I’m sure you’re busy, as always, looking after that lovely family of yours. Thank you so much for popping over.

I try to savor every moment but it's difficult during the summer months. This year I did enjoy it more than usual but that is probably related to the grandkids and memories. Who says you can't celebrate a Thanksgiving-like holiday before Christmas? Call it Autumn-giving and celebrate the cooler temps and lovely colors and the harvest. You might even start a new tradition! :) I've enjoyed the pictures of vacation on Instagram! I'm so glad y'all enjoyed such a wonderful time together!

Thank you for your lovely comment, Pam, and I’m glad you enjoyed my vacation pics. It is such a beUtiful place. I think you’ve had a good idea there! I think I will celebrate the season of Autumn, and invite a few friends around. As you say, I could start a new trend! Thank you for popping over 🥂❤️

Hi Thisisme! I haven't been here in a few days...glad I came by to look around!

This is the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen! I enjoyed it on your FB, but there is nothing so spectacular as a larger view. Of course I love the glistening waters with the boats snoozing and gently rocking (I suppose)! What a scene...so hard to leave it behind, I imagine.

And, I'm in agreement with your wish for cooler weather! Ready for jackets, boots and scarves! The grass in front of my house looks terrible for lack of rain, but I know it will return with a bit of cooler weather.

I suppose Eli and Ruby will be excited to return to school. It is so hot here for the school kids, but the school is air conditioned. Shawn is happy to see his friends from last year. This is so good for him, to establish friends that he will actually get to grow up with. I love your post, and I hope you are recuperating from your exciting visit to Ibiza. Take care dear friend! Too bad the Royals can't declare a Thanksgiving day in England! Maybe the new Duchess can find a way to introduce some sort of Thanksgiving celebration. Hugs ♥

Hi Suzanne. Lovely to see you here 😊. Because of the hit, dry Summer we had, our grass also looked like hay, but it is gradually returning to its normal self. Amazing how it recovers really. Yes, Eli and Ruby go back to school on Tuesday. I’ve just been away with them, and their mum, for five days. You might see the photos in Facebook. We all had so much fun, although I’ve been feeling very weary today. I hope Shawn enjoys being back, at the start of the new school year. Hugs to you my Texan friend ❤️
