Outdoor Wednesday

Today I am linking up with Outdoor Wednesday, as I wanted to tell you about one of my favourite flowers in the garden, the Scabious flower.

I love the colours here of soft lavender blue and lilac.  Apparently, there is a species with a creamy flower, but I have never actually seen that one.  They are perennial, so will come up year after year and, most importantly, they will flower from April to the end of October.

The photos here were taken in the garden a couple of days ago.

To me, they are a real cottage-garden flower and I love to have lots of them in the garden, either in the borders or in tubs.

Do you have any particular favourites in your garden?

Oooooh!! Those look lovely!! :D
My Grandmom and Dad have like the greenest of thumbs, and though we live in an apartment complex with only the tiniest little balcony, they manage to grow all sorts of stuff in there! As for my favourites, I love the geranium flowers, particularly the scarlet ones.. :) :)

What interesting flowers...I used to love lilacs, nasturchums, impatients, California poppys, magnolias, hydrangea, and many more...but now, living in the desert, my gardening is on hold...

PencilGirl - Yes, that sign is funny, isn't it, but VERY true!! I love geraniums as well, and have pots of them in the summer months.

Donna - Yes, it must be quite difficult to get flowering plants in the Desert - ones like you have mentioned anyway.

Bethe77 - I do hope that your warmer weather arrives soon!!

They are also one of my all time favourites We have an indigenous variety here, very similar to your and also in pink and lilac. I've not ever seen a cream version of ours. As far as favourites are concerned, I find it impossible to list a single flower as a favourite...I honestly have too many!

Oh, I meant to say yesterday how much I LOVE your new profile picture :) I'm guessing that one was taken on your birthday?

Thisisme. said...

Desiree - Always a pleasure to hear from you. It's funny, but I've never seen the creamy one either. Like you, I love such a lot of flowers, particularly the old style English roses. Thank you for the comment about my profile piccie and, YES, it was taken on my birthday. My daughter and son-in-law from France made it such a fun day for me this year.

Mine would have to be our red azaleas. Your's are really awesome and it is great that they bloom so long.

Odie - a good choice my friend with the Azaleas. There are so many beautiful plants and flowers, that it is very difficult to pick out any particular one.

Are they as aromatic as they are beautiful, Thisisme? We have loads of trained honeysuckle vines and the sweetest smell emanates from them at night. Do have a fine Wednesday, dear friend!

Hello my sweet friend! ~ Those flowers are so pretty! I have not heard of them. My favorite flowers in my garden (right now) are the roses on my Knock Out Rose bush. So pretty!

Shady - Hi there. No, unfortunately, they don't have any fragrance, which is a shame! We have honeysuckle by the front porch and, as you say, it smells divine during the evenings.

Becca - thank you. Those are my favourite colours in the garden, along with pinks and perhaps pale lemon.

Becky - Hi there. Thanks for dropping by! Your roses sound lovely. I really enjoy all my rose bushes in the summer. In fact, a lot of them are all in bud now. Hope the storms don't hit anywhere near you dear friend.

such a lovely garden! i don't have a garden, per se, but my favorite thing in my yard is my little mum! I replanted it after it died this past fall, and it's come back all green and fluffy and lovely as can be!

The anticipation of what your garden will be so, so soon [yay Spring!] has me on pins and needles. :)

Those are so lovely.

My grandmother had those most spectacular rose garden. And everytime I see a rose bush I think of her.

I do wish I could grow daisies. :)

Vintch - so glad that your mum is thriving again! Just see what a bit of love and care can do!

SkippyMom - That's lovely that you remember your grandma from her rose garden. I love roses as well, especially the old varieties with the delightful scents. I'm sure even you could grow daisies dear friend!!

Those are beautiful flowers. Love the colors. I can't garden physically or literally! So I am going to enjoy my garden through your pictures!!! My step-daughter is an avid gardener and I miss being at her house through the spring and summer. She has a talent. I would say you do as well.

Bouncin'Barb - you can share my garden anytime you want!! The colours on the flowers in my post are so pretty and delicate, aren't they? I do love the garden to look nice I must admit.

I learned a new variety by visiting you today. Those are beautiful! I love hydrangea, lilies, roses, of course tulips, pansies in masses, carpet of snow sweet alyssum, flowering dogwood, peony, dahlia, and dozens of varieties. Yesterday I was browsing the garden center and wanted to stay all day. Missing my former life as a florist shop girl and apprentice to a greenhouse grower. I could discuss plants at length with people who love to be outside in the garden! Recently I saw a picture of my friend's father in law's garden who lives in England. It was packed with the most amazing varieties!

I will have to check to see if they have that flower here. I like anything that comes back year after year. This is truly a lovely bloom.

Cindy@OldTimePickers - thank you so much for popping over to my blog and leaving a comment. The sign IS good, isn't it?!

LV - Likewise, thank you for popping over. Like you, I'm into perennials that will come back year after year. It gets so expensive just buying bedding plants each year.

kneesandpaws - gosh, I didn't realize you were such an expert on these matters! How lovely to have worked in a florist's shop. I envy you! Like you, I love browsing around garden centres, especially at this time of year, when everything is coming to life again.

The message on the last photo speaks volumes. It sure takes a lot of work to keep up with a garden. But oh, its so rewarding.

It is me again, letting you know I would be thrilled to have you be one of my followers. I have several worldwide friends and one more is always welcome. Thank you.

Oh, what beautiful colors! I'm not much of a gardener, but I surely appreciate the work of others!

Ana* - thank you so much for dropping into my blog. Yes, the sign is very true!! But it's lovely when everything is looking good.

LV - thank you!

Gifts by Katherine - lovely to hear from you again. You're not on my blog roll any more since the changearound, which is a real nuisance. I will have to look into it again!

Chatty Crone - Thank you dear friend!

Jo-Anne Mother and Nana - I like carnations also. They usually have a wonderful scent.

shopannies - thank you so much for popping over to see me. I will call into yours later on today.

Becky - Likewise, I am so glad that you popped by and liked the flowers!
