Well, all my little American bloggy friends, I did try!! Try what, you might well ask?!
Superbowl 2011 was televised LIVE on BBC television here in England, so I thought I would sit and watch it, so that I could be there with all my friends from America.
First of all, may I say that the Stadium was Awesome! Then along came the players in their brightly coloured Lycra. What can I say - that sight was even more awesome! Didn't leave much to the imagination in many cases. Somehow, I can't imagine David Beckham running on to the pitch dressed like that. (Well, I can dream, can't I?!).
As the players were running out, I noticed that some of them had like little pieces of white material hanging down. Tell me, was that there to protect their modesty, or was it there for some other important reason? A girl likes to know these things, you know.
Anyway, it started here at 11 p.m. and television coverage was due to continue until 4 a.m. Apparently, the game was going to last for four hours (4 hours!). (Our football matches last for 90 minutes, and then they have a 15 minute interval). No wonder you all needed so many munchies and were talking about tables laden with home made guacamole dips, hot crab dips, pigs in blankets, veggie trays, potato skins, Italian sub cut into bite size pieces, cheese and crackers, wings, stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, devilled eggs, fruit plate with dip, chocolate fondue ....... etc. etc. (and these were only some of the menus I saw being bandied about yesterday!).
I'm afraid that I could only make it until 11.30 p.m. when the game was about to commence, and I was so tired that I just had to go to bed. But I was with you in spirit, if not in body!!
Congratulations to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers (you see, I know all about these things!!). I hope you all enjoyed the game and had a wonderful evening.

Thisime I laughed so hard I started crying well reading your blog this evening So then I had to read it to my girlfriend who stays here so she could laugh alon with me as well. Im so glad you now understand the large amounts of food being consumed as they watch these over grown children play football.
How kind of you to join in on the celebration! I can only think those towels are for wiping their hands if they get sweaty so they won't drop the ball. But your guess is as good as mine.
Too late for me to watch too as it started at midnight here. I was listening and watching all the build up though but sport of any kind, doesn't particularly interest me I'm afraid!
You are SO cute! Thank you for trying - we appreciate your enthusiasm and friendship.
Believe me I was fast asleep within minutes of the end of the game. I don't blame you.
And Belle is right about the towels. The modesty comment made me laugh. It is a nice view [from behind] isn't it. heehee
I never have been that much of a football fan and the only real reason I was up was to see the new commercials and the one with the little boy acting like Darth Vader was really cute. Personally my favorite sport to watch is women's beach volleyball. Have a great rest of your tuesday as it is nearing lunch for you at this time.
Bethe77 - so glad that it made you and your friend laugh!!
Belle - I think your explanation about the towel is as good as any!
Gawgus things - I'm surprised you stayed up late enough to listen to all the build up!
SkippyMom - what can I say?!
Odie - that's naughty!!
wow I am impressed! I don't do sport :)
This post is too funny! I will admit - we typically watch the Super Bowl for the Commercials! haha, and go to Super Bowl Parties to be Social.
Haha this is totally cute. I love it. And I'm so with you on dreaming about Beckham in less clothing.
The towel is for the sweaty hands but they probably sell them on Ebay later for the girls. haha. I enjoyed watching the Puppy Bowl VII again. That is adorable.
Thisisme, you seemed quite taken with the look of those young costumed warriors as they rushed onto the battlefield. Check with Belle. She has the phone number of a service you can call...
Those white towels are used to wipe perspiration from the hands of players that pass, carry or catch the ball. The players also use them in the locker room after the game, snapping them playfully against each other's bare fannies. Can you picture it? (LOL)
You are too cute. I unlike most Americans have never watched it and never will. I do not like many sports. Basically I am a nerd and do not watch tv much at all. Joe, my hubs, did watch the last half but he likes the commercials. ♥O
You got rid of word verification....Yay!!!!
i'm impressed you gave it a try
I did my bit by watching the special episode of Glee which was televised here last night in honour of this match :)
I love that you attempted to watch the game! Amd your comments are PRICELESS!! Thank you for the laugh! Yes, their outfits are quite "tight" and I would love to see David Beckham's _______ in a pair of those tight pants! LOL! ~ You know how much I LOVE football, so I watched the whole game. I did have a little nap somewhere in there, but saw most of it! Darth Vader was my favorite commercial! ;)
Although I live in the US, I'm not a sports fan. Guess I'm more of a participant than a spectator. The Puppy Bowl is cute, though. Anyway, I admire that you tried to watch the game!
hehe i loved how one of the tags for this post was "lycra." you're adorable! i'm not too sure about that white flap..i'm glad you brought that up! i only watched the commercials and halftime show. i'm an awful american!:)
lyndylou - I thought I would try to make the effort!
mskanorado - I've gathered that the Commercials seem almost as important as the game!
Jumble - LOL!
Shady - the mind boggles my friend!
Olive - a nerd?! Not you my friend. Yes, I've got rid of that word verification thing. It drives me up the wall when I'm leaving comments, so I'll see how it goes. Some people were saying that you can get lots of spam comments by doing away with it. Anyway, we'll see!
Becca - thank you!
LindyLouMac - That is funny! lol!
Becky - Glad that it gave you a laugh. Your comment was funny too!!
On My Soapbox - good for you. I'm much more of a spectator I'm afraid.
vintch - I've never seen so much lycra! LOL!
Bouncin'Barb - Loved the bit about eBay! LOL!!
You're such a good girl-cheers to you for trying. And your game pics are really good. Twas a pretty good game...surprised about the outcome, but pleased. Of course, it's not that big a deal to me since Dallas wasn't playing. Our town took such a bad hit with the weather and all. I couldn't even get out to take some pics downtown Fort Worth! And, the hip towels are a nice touch, but I've never caught anyone using his. All in all, your banquet spread was the best. It all looked yummy.
hehe great post. Very funny. I know exactly how you feel. I'm not a big sports fan myself (at all actually) unfortunately I missed the Superbowl. Well done for giving it a shot though.
Last time I saw a sporting event it was the opening match of the season in Old Trafford, Manchester, UK a few years ago.
I drifted off somewhere about thirty minutes in texting on my phone!
Great Blog by the way :)
I look forward to reading more,
Drew
It was sweet of you to have tried...I have no clue about the game...majorly since I'm not much into sports, and also, coz I'm not in US.
You are so sweet! We did enjoy the game even though our teams weren't playing. The towels are to keep their hands dry if they are going to be touching the ball.
Have you ever seen that underwear ad that David Beckham did? OMG! OMG! Victoria is blessed. LOL
When we aren't watching American football, we are watching soccer--and we never miss the World Cup! I was going to soccer matches when I was in college! Birdie (DD3) played soccer for 8 years and Deanie (DD2) has had two serious-ish boyfriends- one for 5 years and the other for 3 years--both were soccer players. The last one plays for a team in Sweden! Love David Beckham...I mean soccer! LOL
What matters is that you tried. I had it on, but I don't get into the NFL all that much. I keep up with my university's college conference and that's about it. I was doing school work in between watching the commercials. Lol.
You are amazing for trying to join in. I do love the uniforms. I also happen to love the partying and eating that goes on during the game. I am also a huge football fan so that does help.
Very funny post, thisisme! I personally LOVE football but I usually don't watch the NFL until the Superbowl. I just follow college football. But I have to admit I watch the Superbowl for the commercials and the halftime show as much as I do for the actual game! This was the first year I haven't been to a Superbowl party in years.
I agree with you though, Beckham might make those uniforms look GOOD!
Hey I have to say you were better then me! I didn't watch - I did see a couple of commercials - lol
sandie
Susan - Thank you for your comments. It's always lovely when you pop across to see me!
Drew - thank you so much for dropping into my blog and becoming a new follower! I look forward to seeing you again. (Good to have someone here in England as well).
Cat - Yes, as you are not in America, I guess you wouldn't be too interested in the Superbowl!!
Empty Nester - Underwear Ad?! David Beckham??!! Yes, I did appreciate that one. LOL! Nice that you follow soccer as well.
LaUREN - so many people seem to have watched it for the commercials! LOL!
Jax - lovely to hear from you. I've missed you!
All the eating sounds wonderful to me!
puppykisses - I think lots of us ladies appreciate David Beckham! Shame you missed a party this year. I heard that Christine Aguilera sang the wrong words of the Americal National Anthem!! OOPS!
Chatty Crone - What is it with these commercials during the Superbowl?!
