Prayers Once Again For Our Friends in Australia

It seems only a short while ago that we were saying prayers for our Australian friends because of the terrible floods in Brisbane and surrounding areas.

Once again our thoughts and prayers must be with all those likely to be affected by Cyclone Yasi.  This is a Category 5 storm, which is the most severe level and its arrival is imminent.

Apparently, Queensland residents have been told that it is too late to escape, and that they should take shelter.  The Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, has described the storm as being of savagery and intensity.

I am copying the following from the BBC News site :

Cyclone Yasi is expected to make landfall between the northern city of Cairns - home to some 164,000 people, and popular with tourists - and the rural community of Innisfail, some 100km (60 miles) south.
The eye of the storm alone was reported to be 35km (22 miles) in width, with a front stretching across 650km (400 miles).

Storm surges are expected to cause widespread flooding and wind gusts are likely to rip off roofs and cause significant structural damage.

High winds and driving rain are already battering coastal towns and cities. In Innisfail, a roof has already been ripped from a building.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all, and   please stay safe.

It seems so unfair for one area to suffer two disasters so close together but it can happen anywhere at any time. They are in my prayers, Thisisme!

Oh My... I had no idea about this storm! Yes, I will pray for them all. I lived in Florida so really understand about hurricanes and how scary they can be...

I also feel for them with such a sense of helplessness and sadness for what they are having to endure. Prayers will continue.

I heard that in the news today too. Those poor people. Our north is having a blast of snow -24 inches. Bad winter - but the groundhog did not see his shadow which means spring is near.

Prayers to Austrailia.

My prayers are with all the people affected by this storm. How nice of you to bring it to everyone's attention.

Stella - it was the least I could do. Let's pray that perhaps it won't be as bad as they are forecasting.

I was chatting with Mynx last night about this and it is so, so sad. It is the same in strength as a hurricane the US had a few years back and it is so scary that they will be hit in the same manner.

Much prayer and good thoughts that it lessens before it hits land.

Thank you for this post.

I know I'm a day late! I've been beat from staying up all last night watching the coverage and making sure the hubs was okay (he is)

SkippyMom - thankfully, the storm doesn't seem to be as bad as expected.

Julie - hopefully all our prayers helped!

Hed - It must have been SO worrying for you. Glad that hubs is safe and sound, and hope you have since managed to get some sleep. You must have been exhausted.
