Once a jailhouse, now a trendy hotel, the Liberty Hotel in Boston lets you spend the night in prison. Its most famous inmate was Frank Abagnale, Jr., played by Leonardo di Caprio in Catch Me If You Can. Barred windows and low ceilings add to the claustrophobic experience!
You're not dreaming: this guesthouse is shaped like a dog, just like most of its furniture. This giant beagle is the largest dog in the world, according to the hotel.
Relive the stone age with all the modern comforts. At Elkep Evi Cave Houses in Urgup in Cappadocia, you'll sleep in a fully equipped cave in the side of a cliff.
These igloos are perfect for a midwinter romantic getaway. You'll find a heated glass igloo, a snow igloo, a snow chapel, ice sculptures, and traditional log cabins.
The cockpit of this dockside crane has been redesigned as a magnificent luxury hotel room. Sound tempting? Come on up to the Crane Hotel.
Spend a night in an authentic Pullman train, complete with classic sleeping cars. You'll enjoy an incredible view of the Fairbanks area, the Tanana Valley, and Alaska's mountain ranges.
Right off the legendary Route 66, the Wigwam Motel lets you sleep in authentic Native American teepees. The famous mini-village of teepees inspired a setting in Disney's animated Pixar film Cars.
Only in Japan will you find sleeping capsules hardly larger than a coffin. Some of them are even equipped with little TVs. Not for the claustrophobic!
I thought this was a bit of fun to start the week off with! Full details of all the hotels shown can be found here. (Just in case you want to make a booking!!).

Oh this was fun, thank you, Diane. My favourite would be the cave hotel. I would definitely not try out the capsules. The igloos look nice, but I have no desire to holiday in such an icy environment. Hope you have a much better start to your week this time! Big hug xoxo
Fantastic post - I had a mini vacation going from picture to picture.
I'm undecided as to which I would like to stay in - so I think (if I win a mini lottery) I would go to all of them and spend a week at each.
Thanks for sharing this, I enjoyed my virtual escape!
Cheers, Jenny
I think it would be quite fun to spend a night in the igloo, as long as lots of blankets were provided of course! Certainly the prison and Japanese capsule don't appeal!
The cliff hotel looks great and would the only one which I choose :)
Desiree - hi there. You're first up this morning my friend! I would go for the cave one as well, although I guess the tepee one might be quite fun, if it was luxurious inside! Have a good Monday. Hugs.
Pearson Report - Hallo! Always good to see you here Jenny, and glad you enjoyed the post today. It's hard trying to come up with something just a little bit different!
Gawgus things - I agree, the prison nor the capsule certainly wouldn't appeal. Knowing you, you would have to have lots of heat in that Igloo and then, surely, it would melt! Hee Hee!!
Claudia - Good Monday morning to you! You will have to come and join Desiree and I in the cliff one. I think it looks quite nice!
I had to double check to make sure I wasn't on Belle's blog, Thisisme! (LOL) These are all unique hotels but I wouldn't want to be confined in that tiny Japanese coffin or in the suspended cockpit of a crane. The caves, the Beagle, the ice hotel, and the train are the ones that I think I'd truly enjoy. York has an historic shoe house that's one of my earliest childhood memories. I loved the movie Catch Me if You Can and own it on DVD. Have a splendid Monday, dear friend Thisisme!
I think I'd most like to try the cave house!
Hope you're feeling better now Diane!
Duncan In Kuantan
Pretty neat hotels. I like the doggy one the best. How cool is that? My second favorite is the train car because I love trains and Alaska is on my bucket list.
Thanks for sharing!
I had soooo much fun on your tour of the unusual lodgings. It would be fun to try some of them out. Not the tee pee or the coffin like place. A very good post my friend. Have an awesome week.
Odie
I would take the train to the igloo. This was fun.
Oh this is hilarious! After our hike on the Appalachian Trail, we came out of the woods needing a place to stay with a real bed and a hot shower. We walked into a place that said Day's Inn, but discovered that the hotel was formerly a hospital. Some parts of this hotel were still used by doctors, psychiatric doctors. Now, if you remember I had a terrifying experience on the trail with black bears and was still a little rattled from the experience. I asked my husband if he was having me committed! When we went downstairs for dinner, we discovered that the morgue had been turned into the restaurant, complete with a blood red ceiling. The food was awful and we were nauseated. Richard said he dreamt that he was having an operation during the night.
A fun post Diane .. No Way could I go in that little Japan pod ... oh the thought of it, makes me cringe :-(
Shady - Happy new week to you dear friend! Yes, it was a bit like one of Belle's posts, wasn't it?! Well, they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I am a big fan of dear Belle. I loved that movie as well!
Duncan - good to see you here today! Feeling a bit better but still not 100% :(
Skippy - hallo! I thought that you might like the doggy one. Hee Hee! Do hope that you get to make your trip to Alaska one of these days.
Odie - Hallo dear friend! We've missed you. Lovely to see you here today, and I'm so glad that you enjoyed the post today.
Linda - loved your comment!
kneesandpaws - yes, I do indeed remember your experience with the black bears, and your experience of that hotel sounds almost as bad! Ugh! Fancing turning the Morgue into a restaurant. I don't think I would have spent more than one night there!
Anne in Oxfordshire - hallo! Hope your leg is virtually back to normal by now and that you are feeling better. I'm with you on the pod - how claustrophobic!
So much fun!The only two I wouldn't try are the crane and the Japan capsules.
So much fun!The only two I wouldn't try are the crane and the Japan capsules.
Thanks for this interesting post. I've never seen any of them before. How interesting.
Cool Hotels! I think I like the igloo one. A great way to start the week indeed. Enjoy your evening my friend :)
We had a Wigwam motel in California somewhere. I saw it as a kid. I just love these photos. I would like to stay in the stone one, or maybe the train. They all look like fun!
What fun Diane! I think Lois would love the Dog Hotel. I certainly don't fancy the Japanese capsule, but wouldn't mind the Train or the Tipi. Thanks for your lovely comments, glad you like my header, I've been messing about on Picnik again. Mars and PB scones are a bit ott aren't they? The cards are lovely aten't they and good value too? Have a great week, love Linda x
Denise - I think I agree with you on those!
Grammy Goodwill - I'm glad you found the post interesting today .
Eva - I agree that the igloo one does look lovely, but I think it would be a bit too cold for me!!
Belle - I was hoping that you would enjoy the hotel photos today my dear friend!
flowers on my table - it was a bit of fun, wasn't it? I'm still thinking of those Mars and peanut butter scones! LOL!!
The teepees are neat. We need to drive route 66 before we get too old!
those are some really cool hotals i want to stay in the one that looks like a teppe( i think i spelled that wrong) oh well i want to be an indian
Love all your choices, some for maybe only one night though. I'm with Jenny though, I want to stay in them all. How about 2 weeks in the Beagle and the Train. Believe it or not my husband has never been on a train even to just ride let alone sleep. Maybe we can take Amtrack to Alaska so we could stay in the Train Hotel. THANKS FOR THE IDEA.
rainbow (Momma Lyn)
I hope you are feeling better. And no Japanese coffins for this girl to sleep in. sandie
i LOVE quirky hotels like these! on our new england trip, robert are staying in train cabooses. usually (though certainly not always!) these eccentric places are a bit less than traditional hotels and so much more fun! thanks for sharing this great post!
Caves and igloos I could cope with and have some fun, but the rest, no thanks.
Olive - I keep hearing all about Route 66! I guess it's very special, so you and Ron must make sure that you do it sometime soon.
becca - I can just imagine you dancing around the Totem Pole! Hee Hee!
rainbow - I can't believe that your husband has never been on a train before!
Chatty - hi. I agree, I would hate that Japanese pod! Feeling a bit better, but still feel very tired by about 4 p.m.
vintch - what fun for you and Robert to be staying in train cabooses! You'll have to tell us all about it on your return.
LindyLouMac in Italy - I think I would certainly go for the cave one.
Well, maybe the pullman cars or the stone age one. But really? A sleep capsule? Um...NO. LOL Amazing what people can come up with, isn't it?
Hi!!! My lady,
SO sorry that I missed your lovely posts.
Haha, I remenber that the "capsule hotel" which we call them surprised me when they first appeared in Tokyo. I heard that it was made mainly for the purpose of businessmen who cannot go back to home to have a sleep overnight.
I loved all the OTHER hotels♡♡♡
PS> I think I won't be able to post for a while. But I'll try to keep in touch commenting to your post, my lady♬♬♬
Many hugs and Love from east, Orchid*
Empty Nester - as you say, I wonder what they will come up with next?!!
Orchid - how lovely to see you here today my friend. I hope you are okay. I thought you might have heard of that Japanese capsule!! Take care my dear friend. Hugs to you.
Hello again Diane, so glad you enjoyed my post. I am indeed well and enjoying this little spell of warm weather we're having. Lots of love to you, Linda x
Ha ha ha, that was a really cool post! The cliff hotel is definitely the coolest in my opinion! :-)
♥ Kyna
flowers on my table - glad that you are well. Isn't this weather wonderful that we are having at the moment?!
kyna - hallo! Lovely to see you here today and I agree with you on this one - it would have to be the cliff one!
Wherever did you find all these strange places to call hotels? I like the train the best and the Japanese cells the least.
Rosemary
I'm a wee bit late to this one This. Sorry! I've enjoyed each of these and wouldn't mind checking them all out except for the Japanese coffin. No thanks! So interesting. I met Frank Abignale Jr. at a seminar once. What an entertaining speaker.
Steadfast Ahoy = I found them on Trip Advisor! My favourite one was the cliff hotel.
Bouncin'Barb = hallo again! That was really interesting that you had met Frank Abignale Jr.
