Look at how pretty you are! I used to have a swimming suit like the one in picture #2. I loved to go to the beach as a kid. The waves were so monstrous and exciting.

Belle - yes, I think we all had those swimming costumes at that time. I thought it was funny with that older man walking by in the photo, fully clothed! Adults didn't take much off when they went to the beach in those days. When you think about it, they must have been sweltering!!

Claudia - glad you liked the photos. They were taken from a different age - being the early 1950's!

Just Martha - hi there. How good to see you over here today! My 'little self' - love that!! I'm afraid that I have always hated my curly hair with a vengeance!!

Duncan - Hee Hee!!

You're were cute as Shirley Temple and then some, Thisisme! Some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around my first trip to the beach in 1953. Everything was new to me and all my senses were stimulated. It was the first time that I walked barefoot on warm sand, dodged ocean waves or collected sea shells. I also ate pizza, soft ice cream and salt water taffy for the first time. Thank you for posting these delightful pictures, dear friend!

Shady - Hi dear Tom. I would have been six in 1953, so these photos were taken at around about the same time as you were enjoying your first moments on a beach. I think the beach surely is a most magical place for young children. Take care dear friend.

SkippyMom - thank you my friend. They bring back happy memories, as I really can still remember those times. (Even though they were back in the dark ages. Hee Hee!!).

Gawgus things - yes, I think I had a large bow of ribbon in my hair for most occasions!! (And strangely enough I wasn't scarred for life because of it, unlike someone else I could mention!!).

Colenic - thank you my friend. I'm glad you liked the photos today., which were taken well over 50 years ago!

Orchid - yes, I like the first one with my mum and dad. I was very much loved because they had been married a very long time before I came along, and I was a cherished little soul!!! Hope all is well with you my friend.

Shelly - thank you so much. It's amazing that a couple of you have said that you can see the present me in them!! Happy times, and I now share those happy beach times with my grandchildren.

Bouncin'Barb - Not so sure about the adorable bit! Hee Hee!! You are so right, that our memories are what gives our lives meaning. Take care dear friend. Hugs.

rainbow - thank you, and i'm glad that you enjoyed the photos today.

Loved them! I thought it was interesting how the man in the background was dressed in a dress suit at the beach. Times certainly have changed.

You were, and are, a doll.

Southhamsdarling said...

Retired English Teacher - yes, how times have changed indeed!! Now anything goes, but adults were still quite formal in those days at the beach. Think how hot they must have been!

Desiree - I used to hate those curls. Hee Hee!! Especially when I was a teenager when everyone else had this gorgeous backcombed beehive hairstyles, and there was me with these CURLS! Ugh!!

Eva Marie - I'm glad you enjoyed the photos today. It would be quite nice to see photos of my bloggy friends when they were younger!

What pictures you have to treasure! I have many wonderful memories of beach trips with my family when I was that same age.

Dizzy - hi Carol. You're so right about the generations of children that have enjoyed the magic of the beach, and hopefully it will still be so for my grandchildren's children!

Susan- Thank you so much for that lovely comment.

I loved those curls and how happy you looked having fun at the beach. I am surprised there were not any cute boys in the picture all around you.

LindyLouMac said...

It is so weird looking at your old photos as they are so very similar to ones of me with my parents. It shows how much can be dated by hairstyles and clothes doesn't it!

BECKY said...

Oh my goodness! You are adorable..and I immediately thought you looked like Shirley Temple! Thank for sharing the photos!

Southhamsdarling said...

Odie - thank you! Your comment did make me smile about the boys!

LindyLouMac in Italy - I can imagine that your childhood photos would be very similar! I still think it's funny with that man walking by with a formal suit and his hat on! On what was obviously a lovely hot sunny day.

Becky - thank you so much! Who is this Shirley Temple??! (No, I'm joking. I can still remember her singing "On The Good Ship Lollipop!!". Now that does date us my friend.

Wow. Those seem like very nostalgic pics. But, in a way, they give a sense of familiarity to people. Times have changed, but most people have memories of going to the beach during their childhood. It's a fun place to be in, whether you're a kid or an adult.
