Lead Me To The Home For The Lost & Bewildered!!!

Well my dear little bloggies, I can today confirm that I have officially lost the plot! (Actually, it's quite worrying, but see what you think).

Yesterday morning, I leisurely woke up,  thinking to myself "oh wonderful, I have the whole day to myself".  I went downstairs and, of course, the first thing I did was to switch on my laptop, intending to catch up on what was happening out there in Bloggyland.

I messed around a bit, and looked at the clock, which was showing 8.40 a.m.  I was still thinking of this lovely day ahead of me, doing a bit of this and a bit of that.  Now I don't know what made me look in my diary, but I did and,   horror of horrors, it was showing that I had a hair appointment booked for  9.30 a.m.  Bear in mind that it is now 8.40 a.m. and it takes me twenty minutes to drive to the Hairdressers.

Eeek! I had twenty minutes to get myself ready.  I leapt in the shower, then, amazingly quickly, I threw on my make-up, then my jewellery.  Necklace, check.  Bracelet, check.  Watch, check.  Ear-rings, check. Rings, check.  Money to pay for said hair-do, check.  (In case Shady and Odie are wondering, yes, my clothes did get thrown on as well!).

By this time the newscaster is just starting to read out the 9 o'clock BBC news. On with my coat and boots and I flew  out the door, feeling mightily pleased with myself, saying inwardly, "thank you Lord for making me look at my diary this morning."  I still couldn't really believe that I had forgotten something so important as a hair appointment (!).

I turned on the car engine, then the radio, only to hear the Announcer saying that it was a beautiful Wednesday morning out there. Hang on a minute, WEDNESDAY morning?? My hair appointments are always on a THURSDAY morning.  I had completely mixed up the days, so all that rushing was for nothing!
I walked back into the house and collapsed in a heap on the floor.  As I said, "lead me to the home for the lost and bewildered"!   Eeek!

Good morning my friend! I see you are up and at 'em early so I suspect you will make your hair appointment easily. :)

The doctors told Pooldad that some of my new meds could cause disorientation and confusion at first and he should be on the look out for it. He was kind enough to wait until we were out of the office before he turned to me and said "How is that going to be noticeable? Your like that all the time." heehee - 'tis true, 'tis true. I can walk into a room and forget why I even went in there.

I just chalk it up as being just who I am. I like to think of it as endearing. Don't ask my family tho'

Have a great day. Mother's Day will be here soon won't it? Any plans?

LOL! OH I so have been there with appointments before. Then you find out it was schedule for anotehr day that you thought was already here. The one I hate the most is when you wake up and think you have slept through an entire day and dint make it to work. Love that we can laugh at ourselves. Thanks you for sharing your harried morning. Pray you enjoy and relax at your hair appointment. I need to make one for a trim. colored hair last evening.
Blessings

You are such a treat, Diane. I am sitting here, chuckling so deliciously, not from any malicious delight at your expense, but because I have also done something almost, not quite, the same. Your story is definitely better than mine! I think it's easy to mix up ones days when every day is a free day. I'll bet Odie will start having similar experiences now that he has joined the ranks of the Retired Brigade. I do hope that after you'd fallen into your exhausted heap, you were able to resume your pleasurably, idle day?

I suspect you were out of sync due to all that nighttime baking for Belle. Maybe you should start scheduling your baking for daylight hours?

Love you lots! xoxo

I also have an appointment (cut 'n colour) for this morning at 10h30. Just dashing off right now to get ready for it :)

Good morning Diane!
I had to laugh a bit by reading your post, that was a little funny. So you got all worked up and it was the wrong day...well, I hope you will have a much calmer morning today, THURSDAY! [hehe] Just about to start with my day at work, and it will be a long day :( But...tomorrow it's Friday [my fav day of the week] and then I'll have 3 days off [yeyyyy] I love long weekends.

Big hugs
Eva

I will walk there with you, side by side! I often have the same problem of forgetfulness. Just this morning Richard asked me when we purchased our car. I have no idea! I know it was after Elliot was potty trained and during a summer break because Emily was with us, but as to the actual month and year? I'd have to look that one up.
At least you remembered to shower and dress nicely before going out the door. You're not quite ready for the home!

Are we related? you made me laugh out loud. Funny I can laugh at you, but I weep when I do this sort of thing. Nothing worse than running into the Book Mobile for a mammogram. The mobile mammo van was across the street!

I'm late getting on this morning, Thisisme, and I refuse to copy somebody else's answer and hand it in as my own. (LOL) I don't know what Odie has written (I didn't cheat by reading it in advance) but I admit that I had my fingers crossed hoping for a "naked at the hairdresser" story! (LOL) They say "haste makes waste" but this episode was not a waste of time. It was beneficial because it served as a practice drill. You proved to yourself that you can get showered, dressed and out the door much more quickly than previously thought. This mix up also programmed your brain to check your day planner more regularly to avoid missing appointments. On the first of every month I check the entire month ahead for important events. I do the same at the start of every week. At the end of each day I look at what's on the agenda "tomorrow" just in case I wasn't aware of something on the schedule. I hope you are having a very fine and relaxing day over Devonshire way, dear Thisisme!

Girl you are precious and have made my day at your expense by the way. At least you didn't go all the way to the hair dresser. That would have been a bummer.
Shady beat me to it but I did have a brief moment thinking where are your clothes my dear.
I have had moments like you did and they can take a toll on your sanity. Hopefully it won't happen again for a long time.
Well my sweet and lovely friend, this is thursday so I certainly hope you made it leasurely to the hair dresser, not that I think you need any help being lovely, but I know how important these things are to my lady friends.
Take care and have a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Odie

Easily done Diane, as ladies of leisure that we are, why would we need to know what day it actually is, apart from such important appointments as the hairdressers of course!

OH, bless your heart! AT least you were ready for the day. I'm glad you didn't end up all the way at the heair salon! A very enjoyable story~

Oh, Dearest Diane.
I AM really happy for you that you remembered what day of the week in the car, and I thought I might have gone to the beauty salon.
Haha, anyone can have mixed up brain day at times. The other day, I was trying to bring the garbage to the place and then remembered the wrong day of the week, whew...
Hope you are having wonderful week♬♬♬
Love you always, xoxo Miyako*

So much for a relaxing day! Poor you! I hate to tell you I have often forgotten what day it is. Shady is like my hubby - he never forgets appointments and is very organized. I hope you relaxed the rest of the day. Hugs!

Hi Thisisme! First of all, please forgive me for laughing (a little) at your story ;~) My stories should make you feel much better! About two years ago Clint and I arrived for dinner at a couples' house on the wrong evening! I feel I can blame dementia for this goof up ... my mother's. I had just returned to TX after a long and exhausting couple of weeks dealing with my mother's dementia. (I could still swear the hostess had said the night we arrived)

A more recent one: After fasting overnight and my meticulous grooming ordeal that I do before a doctor's appointment, I arrived for my 8 AM appointment a day early. Clint and I ended up going out for a nice breakfast after I got to the car and tearfully announced ... wrong day.

I keep lists and am now more diligent about putting the dates on my calendar, not just relying on the appointment cards.

Enjoyed this post and your ability to laugh at yourself. ♥

I feel your pain because I can relate to this all too well. I'm glad you figured it out before you got to the hairdresser's.

So, what did you do with the rest of your day? Since you were already dressed, you should have made lunch plans or something.

Suzanne said...

I bet that got your adrenalin going! At least, you became motivated enough to get dressed, lol! And, oh, you haven't lost it, Thisisme...you're still very with it. I adore the pictures you chose, they added more excitement to your plight! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

I feel your confusion. I keep most appointments on my phone now because I cannot keep up and add this crazy time change springing forward and I am crazy. I was once a no show for a dental appointment and talked to the lady who cleans my teeth in the shower for a long time I was so appalled-I ruined the phone.

what a morning i've had those kinds of days myself

Knitty said...

Ahem...I am about to make an embarrassing confession. I once did this with a colonscopy appointment. It was for Thursday but I entered it on my calendar as Tuesday. I did the prep on Monday. Hubby took the day off (someone has to stay at the clinic during the procedure)and we showed up at our allotted time...only 48 hours early.

Bless the ladies that work there, they juggled things around so that I could have the procedure that day rather than rescheduling and going through that nasty prep again.

Oh my heck! Lead me along with you then! Last time I made an appointment I went in and the girl looked at me like I had lost it!
"Your appointment was yesterday." she said sweetly. have mercy. This is my life!

This kind of thing happens to me all the time. It got better when I grew up and now it is getting worse again :)
