An Important Day for Women!

Today is International Women's Day, and I thought that was very much worth a mention on my Blog today. Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world, ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events, through to local women's craft markets, theatrical performances, fashion parades and much more.

I would like to thank all those women, from the Suffragettes onwards, who fought so hard to gain women's rights and to make the world a much better place for the women of today, although, unfortunately, there are still parts of the world (Afghanistan and the Middle East for example) where there is still a long way to go for women to be treated with the respect they deserve.

This post is also in honour of all the wonderful women out there who, like me, write a Blog.  These women really are the very best.  When I first joined the blogging community, I had no idea just how wonderful an experience it was going to be.  I feel that it has enriched my life, with 'talking' to these women from all parts of the world.  Women who are caring, generous, funny, supportive when we need a helping hand, and only too happy to celebrate in our good times as well.

Thank you each and every one!!

Lovely post Diane! If it wasn't for one great woman (my mother), I wouldn't be here on earth today. And if it wasn't for my wife, I wouldn't be happily married with 2 lovely daughters!

Trust you to come out tops again with not only a topical post, but one which is written in such a positive and affirming way, yet at the same time reminds us of what still needs to be done. Happy Women's Day to you, too, Diane!

:ROAR: <-----that's my woman roar! :)

What a great day. I think our daughters are feeling the benefits even more than us Diane. I was watching a show [with Squirrel] the other evening that had 3 male chefs and 1 female chef competing for top prize. The female chef was lamenting how she had been continually put down and dismissed by others in her profession based solely on her gender. Squirrel scoffed and said "Oh, get over yourself lady. You are not. And besides you can be anything you want to be." I told her what the lady chef said was true, but that she had a good argument to - but just wait until she hit the "real world" [especially in her field] and saw what was what.

Although I have rarely felt held back as a woman I do know of a few instances where I was paid less for the same job. Grrrr. Hope it is better for our daughters and grands.

So, happy Woman's Day my friend. So nice to see you today - as it is everyday. Have a great, warm day.

Love, Skip!

Thanks for bringing this to light for all of us. I've always considered myself a feminist, while my daughter has little interest in "the cause". I tell her it's because she's enjoying the fruits of our labors.

Hello, dear Thisisme! Your blog header is one of the most strikingly beautiful I've ever seen! It's easy for those that have to forget those that have not. I fully support International Women's Day along with politicians and political action groups that are working to secure equality for women. I read in one of your comments that spring has sprung in Devon and I am very happy for you. It's time to tend your garden and take some new blog pictures. Have a wonderful afternoon and evening, dear friend Thisisme!

It is so good, to be reminded to remember... All that women of the past, went through, to make sure we have so many rights today.

And not all that long ago... For some things.

So good to remember.

And to salute our Dear Blogging Friends too.

IT IS SO nice to have you back!!! :-)

I was a young woman when feminism started and I agreed with their agenda. They did so much to improve the lives of all women. There is still much to be done, as you said, but I am deeply grateful for the hard work of those first pioneers.

I missed your post somehow. Sorry. Hugs to you.
