No Sunday Song Coming Up This Week ....

There will be no Sunday Christmas Song coming up this week my friends.  Somehow, with the terrible events of yesterday, it just didn't seem right.

I'm sure that all of us will have been profoundly affected by the awful tragedy of all those poor little children and adults that were killed whilst at school.  My heart is heavy as I write this post today.  It's just trying to make sense of it all.  I have my faith, and very much believe in God, but I must still ask, "Why",  "Why", "WHY".

I'm not going to get into any political issue here about gun laws, but, surely, surely, it is time for SOMETHING to be done.

I'm sure that all of us with children and grandchildren will be holding them dear in our hearts this morning.  A few days ago, I went to see little Eli in his Nativity Play, and when he came home with us for tea, he showed me some Christmas cards that his little friends had given him.

I'm sure that these poor children had also been looking forward to the magic of Christmas. I expect they  had a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in their school hall.  I'm sure they had been exchanging Christmas cards with their little friends.  They might even have been to see Father Christmas.  Their parents and family would have been wrapping their presents and looking forward to being together on Christmas Day.

I think, when we relate it to our own loved ones, the  situation becomes even more poignant.  What sort of Christmas will these poor families ever have again in the midst of this tragedy?

When we send our children off to school, we expect them to be safe.  I know that so many safety procedures have been put in place in view of other tragic events, but I guess if some crazy person wants to do something like this, nothing is going to stop them.

Let us hold them all in our hearts and prayers today and in the coming days.  That's all we can do really.

I did read one post about the children who had "died" at their Elementary School.  These innocent children didn't die.  They were brutally murdered.

I was glued to the television coverage all day and evening, Thisisme. It was like 9-11 all over again - complete shock, horror and disbelief. Here is what I am very afraid is happening in this country. Young men are raised in a culture of violence perpetuated by the entertainment industry: movies, TV, music, video games, social networking, etc. The ones who are already teetering on the edge psychologically and perhaps also involved in drug use are spurred on to acts such as these because they see how much coverage mass killings get in the media. They come to view horrific acts of terror against humanity as a way to make a name for themselves and make their mark in history, even if it's a very black mark. They get caught up in a sick competition to see if they can do more damage than previous killers. In my local news it was recently reported that a teenager was arrested after making a video of himself boldly outlining, complete with detailed diagrams, his plan to march into his school, kill the principal and staff, set off bombs in the crowded cafeteria and kill more children than any other school assassin had ever managed to do. In other words, he was hoping to become the new grand champion in this dark and deadly game. The boy was nabbed before he could carry out the plan at which time he tried to claim that his mass murder plot was a hoax and that he never had any intention of going through with it. The boy was tried as an adult and he and his family were outraged when the judge erred on the side of caution and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. The unspeakable cruelty that took place yesterday explains why our local judge made the correct decision. The killing of innocent people is no laughing matter. It is nothing to joke about to your friends, post about on social media or make videos about. I don't know what's happening to my country, dear friend. There are those who will claim that yesterday's tragedy could have been prevented if the principal and school staff would have been equipped with guns so that they could have shot the intruder. Perhaps we'd all feel safer if we issued guns to all of the kindergarten children as well.

The only way I can explain it is that God has granted us the freedom to choose, and sometimes people use that free agency for very bad purposes.
It's a terrible tragedy..

Yes, it puts everything into prospective and reminds us of the evil unleashed in a sad sad world. However we must also remember the final victory has already been secured by Jesus Christ Our Saviour.
My thoughts and prayers are with all those heartbroken children parents and teachers. It is indeed a terrible Christmas tragedy.

Diane, you touched upon many things that I had thought of, too. I was talking to my daughter today and she is trying to be in denial about what happened, I know that is not healthy. She says it is too hard to think about. Last night I went to bed with it on my mind and then had to get up about 1:30 am because I could not sleep. I have to fight back tears constantly. Oh my, when we see photos of those sweet little faces ... Also this early am when I still could not sleep, I truly wondered if the sun was going to rise this morning.

This was such a horrific and terrifying event...you're right Thisisme-they were brutally murdered! And, that's the awful truth. And, it causes us to worry about our own, because now we all feel helpless in our own skin. As you, I wonder WHY? He killed his own mother, and that wasn't enough?

We've had murders at the malls too, and, now I don't even go to the malls anymore. Thank you for your prayers, it seems as tho, a lot of them need to be said! See you soon!♥

It's hard to understand that this beautiful world we live in contains so much evil. It seems there's not much respect for human life any more. It's so, so sad.

Diane, you said everything so eloquently. Our minds just cannot comprehend such evil and violence.... And although I do believe something needs to be done about all the guns that are obtained illegally in this country....I also believe that no matter what, when an insane person wants to do such horrific things...nothing will stop him. Thank you for posting this. And I, too, always ask "WHY?" when terrible things happen.

Thank you Diane for visiting. We are so sad here, just heart breaking what has happened to these children and their families. How do they keep on going, how do they cope with their little ones not here anymore especially at this time of year. I agree with Shady about the entertainment industry, I have always said that. Hugs and blessings...Lu

Yes it makes one wonder what more the school could had done they thought they had done everything that could be done to protect their young children and staff but it still wasn't enough........

Yeah tougher gun control may help but if someone really wants to do something like this they will find a way tougher gun control doesn't always stop the crazy

Your words were beautifully written. I am also shattered beyond reason. It is comforting to know that the entire world has been there to send love to these parents.

Well expressed Diane. :(

The tears still come easily and so I am avoiding the media blitz...too much, too ugly, too sad. The Apostle Paul told the Philippians, "whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." I quietly rejoice that 26 lives gave us joy and beauty while they shared life with us. I am thankful that they knew laughter and skipped in innocence, ran, played, sang and hoped in goodness. I will not dwell on the evil that took it all away. I am resting in God's peace, that passes understanding, guarding my mind and soul. We will continue to live and look for joy. God give us all the eyes of love to see each other as, to reach out and help one another, to comfort and support each other as we grieve all around the globe.
Many blessings Diane.
