It's The Merry Merry Month of May! ....

Here we are again then, at the start of another month.  I am showing you some photos of my May garden today which I hope you will enjoy.

The following is a post I wrote on the 1st May last year, when I
talked about, for me, May being the month of hope.  Well, hope didn't work out very well last year, did it, as we had a summer of almost non stop torrential rain!  But, another year comes around, and we have that 'hope' all over again!!

"I just love the month of May, with everything coming to life in the garden and the greenery looking so fresh and vibrant at the moment.  For me, the month of May serves as the transition period between Spring and Summer.

Most of you will know by now, that our Summers over here in England can sometimes be a little disappointing, but for the month of May I can always have the HOPE that this year will be the one! The one when we have balmy, warm, sunny weather for the next couple of months.  When I will be able to actually sit out in the garden during the long, light evenings with a glass of Rose` and with a book on my lap.  Yes, hope is what makes the world go round my friends, and May is my month of hope for a glorious Summer here in England this year.

"March winds, April showers, bring forth May flowers."

May is traditionally called the merry month, probably because of the warmer weather, balmy air, flowers, and rising energy levels.  May brings forth a rush of spring greenery and the glory of the blossoming trees.  Doesn't it just make you feel glad to be alive!

I still remember the old saying from my childhood days though - "Ne'er cast a clout till May is out." I decided to Google that particular saying and, apparently, in the olden days, 'clout' could have several meanings, including 'clothing', so it really means don't leave off your warm winter clothing until the month of May is ended.   That is why, here in England, we don't usually plant out our tender bedding plants or hang our hanging baskets until the end of May.

I wish you all a very happy and, yes, 'merry', month of May!"

Utterly lovely, my friend! I'm so glad it is finally about here where you can put winter and rain behind you. Surely this will be the year where you can enjoy those long, languid evenings outside.

Glorious May!

I am forever in awe of your photography skills my sweet friend and that first shot seems that I can actually touch that beautiful blue flower it so real. Over here across the pond we have had a few days of very cloudy skies with a heavy mist that makes you use the windshield wipers ever so often. We went for a long time without rain so any moisture is needed especially for the farmers so I don't really complain but would like to see the sun again soon. Have a great rest of your Wednesday. ((((HUGS))))

Hallo, dear Thisisme! Happy 1st of May to you, dear friend! Yessum, the polar ice cap on the hill near your home is gradually receding and the three foot snows are gradually melting. Spring has arrived in Devon! (You do live north of the Arctic Circle, don't you?) :) I will be shocked and dis-Mayed if this month doesn't bring you warm temperatures and sunshine followed by more of the same in June, July and August. You have waited patiently (and far too long) for fine weather. Surely the rainy cycle has come to end by now. Your flowers look lovely and I know your garden will impress our Texas friend Suzanne. Have a happy day, dear friend Thisisme. I wish you a merry, merry month of May and hope it's a warm and sunny one, too!

I love seeing all your mature greenery. Last fall I moved back into a house of mine that sat vacant for years and all plants in the yard are dead. What a job I have ahead of me.Seeing yours gives me hope again.

You have a beautiful garden Diane, and the sun makes it look even prettier doesn't it? It's so nice to feel the sun warm you, it's been lovely here as well today even though the wind is a wee bit chilly but it's not as bad as it has been. Big hugs x

I use that phrase every year. 'Ne'er cast a clout till May is out' How can it be May already though?

Hi Thisisme. What beautiful May gardens! You are right about hope...I've strolled outside in my yard, glancing at my gardens, that are now coming to life again. You know, I lost some of them, and, I just can't physically work so much in the gardens anymore...I'm so glad my son is helping with it. Now that Scootie is older and can play outdoors when he is with us, I can work some while he plays. And, that was my hope, to revive at least a few of the gardens that I built over the years.

You wrote a beautiful post today, (it made me smile)and, I will now pass hope your way. You could really use a beautiful spring/summer, couldn't you? It's your time to shine Thisisme! And, we're going for it!!! Hugs! See you!-oh, I did see this posted on fb!♥

P.S. Tell Shady, YES, I am impressed with your gardens! I like that tree that is just to the right side of your arbor-it's different and interesting.

I have hope that May will be wonderful for you, no matter what the weather brings. I feel merry inside when May happens too. Suddenly I'm full of energy and want to change the world!
Maybe I should go back to bed (he he).

wow! Morning glories...you are so far ahead of us. April was unusually cold and even snowy here this year. Still, I think things have finally turned around for the better and Spring has decided to join the party! I love May too. All the new life. And my birthday too--a bonus. Have a great weekend in the sun. We are planning a patio luncheon on Saturday. Wish us good weather.
Blessings, Rosemary

You yard and gardens are so wonderful - you can see so far away in the hills. And I know what you mean about the election and people caring. So they count the votes right in front of you - what a novel idea. Love, sandie
