Time To Light The Lamps And Snuggle In ....

In a couple of weeks,  the clocks will be falling back an hour, and it’s time, once again,  to make our homes as cosy as we can, so that we don’t start to feel ‘down’ with the onset of the shorter days.  Summer is now becoming a distant memory, with the exception of certain people!  Daughter number 1 who lives in Ibiza, keeps sending me photos of sandy beaches, hot sun, and stunning sunsets. I am starting to go off her! πŸ˜‰. This is the latest photo she’s been teasing me with. No wonder she loves it so much over on that beautiful Island.

But, meanwhile, I shall be lighting the lamps and the candles (although I tend to use wax melts more these days) and getting through some lovely books from  my bookshelf.  With all that’s going on, I certainly don’t want anything too heavy at the moment. Something to lift the spirits is the order of the day I think.  Although I’ll never say no to a good thriller!

Have you heard of the word ...Hygge?  It’s pronounced hue-gah, and comes from a Norwegian word meaning “well-being.”  In other words, enjoying life’s simple pleasures, often achieved with good food, drink, comfy surroundings, warm blankets and candlelight. So, as you will see, Autumn and Winter are just made for us all to practice some Hygge. Colourful throws on the armchairs, potpourri scented with smells of orange and cinnamon - anything to bring us cheer whilst these darker days are with us. Of course, I’m aware that in many parts  of the world, you are approaching Springtime. Forgive me, but I have to write as it is with the Seasons in my homeland!

Most of the colours are fading in the garden at the moment, but I took this photo of a wilting rose earlier today. I think it still looks quite beautiful.

I love this photo with my youngest grandchildren enjoying playing in the Autumn leaves 🍁

Just came across this little quote, which I thought I would include in my Post today. It’s so true ...

So my friends, may your lives be filled with Hygge during the coming Season. See you again soon.

At least we get Fall 🍁🍁 before Winter sets in ❄️❄️. Both are beautiful and we love the Autumn leaves but we get very little snow in our quiet area in South Carolina. ❤️❤️

Hi Cathy. Good to see you here. Yes, autumn is first (Fall!), but the days are much shorter already, and it's dark by around 7.15 pm. I probably shouldn't say this, as I'm sure I will be tempting fate, but it's very rare that we get snow here in the South Hams of Devon. Enjoy your week ahead, and take care xx

Hi Thisisme. Hygge is a great new word, with wise meanings. Your plans for lighting lamps and candles, and choosing a good book are just what the doctor ordered.

I love autumn, and your autumn photos and decor give off warm and cozy feelings. Still, the sunny beaches of Ibiza sound so fresh and inviting! When we have a few cooler days I get a few more roses from my bushes, and this past week, I cut a white rose and a pink one to bring in and enjoy. A little later I will need to prune the bushes, and my red one.

Your quote today truly hits home with me, because I see beauty in humble places frequently, where others may not. I appreciate seeing that in writing!

Love your autumn post today, Thisisme. Have a beautiful week! Hugs from Texas!

Hi Suzanne, my Texan friend. Thank you, as always, for your lovely comment. I'm glad you liked the Autumn twist to this Post. It's lively for my daughter to have such lively weather in Ibiza. Almost all year round really. The quote is lively, isn't it. I'm glad you notice all the beauty of humble places. Lovely for you to be enjoying your roses indoors. I hope you have a good week ahead Suzanne. Sending love and hugs your way πŸ’–

Your post makes me nosrtalgic. I dread the shorter days her in the middle of the U.S., but am finding the cooler weather just perfect for reading outdoors. Hygge, now that's a new one and I love it, almost as much as that picture with the grandchildren.

Hi Jo-Anne! Gosh, I really couldn't cope with heat like that. I would just be a melted blob on the floor!! 😜πŸ₯΅πŸ˜±

Thank you Linda. With the very high temps you get over there, it must be lovely to sit and read outside when things are a bit cooler. Look after yourselves. I'm glad you liked the photo of the grandchildren playing in the leaves! 😊

Lovely blog post Diane.

I love Hygge too. So comforting. My book shelf (well my kindle) is full of books for autumn/winter reading. The photo of your grandchildren enjoying the leaves in the garden is wonderful they look like they are enjoying themselves.

Looking forward to your next blog post already.
