Well, it's nearly here, the wedding of Prince William and Catherine (Kate) Middleton!
Tomorrow morning, I shall be sat in my armchair from 8.30 a.m. for the rest of the day, just glued to the television. One of my friends has invited herself along as well, but I've told her that she's got to be very quiet!! We've had such glorious weather over here in England for the past couple of weeks, that it's just a shame that the weather forecasters are saying there could be some showers over London on the couple's big day. Still, I don't think that will dampen the spirits of the thousands of people that are expected to line the wedding route to cheer William and Kate on.
On BBC news this evening, they interviewed several people who had just flown in from America especially for the celebrations! They were just SO excited to be here. I must admit I love how Americans can get so excited about our very British events, with all the pomp and ceremony that will be on show to the world. The British are generally much more reserved, although the barriers did come down when Princess Diana was so tragically killed. The outpouring of grief was absolutely incredible. I sat down and watched the funeral with one of my daughters, and as the coffin came out of Kensington Palace, there was this weeping and wailing that carried on all the way until the coffin came to Westminster Abbey.
I'm sure William will be thinking of his mum on this very special day, as I will, and Princess Diana would have been so proud of him.
There is talk in the media here that on his marriage, William will be given a Dukedom. I do hope that's not true, and that they can just be Prince William and Princess Catherine, for a while at least. They seem far to young to be called the Duke and Duchess of .......
It does seem to be a genuine love story and I pray that this will be one royal marriage that will truly last. I hope, also, that the media will not put too much pressure on Kate, as they did with Diana.
Warmest congratulations to the happy couple!

What a lovely blog to congratulate the lovely couple. It is so very exciting. im so sad it is so many hours difference here. i will be fas t asleep as I will have to work. But am hoping to DVR some of the wedding. I like you hope the media will not do what they did to Di. She truly was the World's Princess in my mind. Such a very sad tradgey and story. Im sure she is smiling down on her sons.
Lovely you will be watching from her comoft in your home.
Blessings
I'll be plastered exactly in the same position as you. On my couch with plenty snacks and drinks and hopefully a house of offspring that will keep the noise levels down.
What a lovely post, Diane :) I am hoping to be able to watch part of the proceedings, if not all. With the puppies I'm confined to an area of the house where there isn't a TV and, unfortunately these two can't be left unsupervised for any length of time, yet. They don't sleep as much as puppies are reputed to, either. They tend to save that up for night time, which of course suits us better, too!
Enjoy your day tomorrow. Hopefully you've ensured there's plenty of easy stuff to nibble on, so you don't have to spend any time in the kitchen sorting out teas and meals!
I well recall all the excitement when we watched Charles & Diana's fairytale wedding and the absolute dismay and sadness when we heard she'd been killed so tragically. William seems to have much of his Mother's nature and of course we all hope he and Kate have a long, happy and successful marriage.
Bethe77 - yes, it is a pity about the time difference for my bloggy friends around the world. I do hope you will be able to see the highlights when you get home from work, and I agree that Princess Diana will be smiling down on them.
A Daft Scots Lass - Hi! Thank you so much for popping over to my blog and leaving a comment. Yes, I will have plenty of nibbles. I can remember when Charles and Diana got married, my husband took the two little ones to the park and, apparently, it was full of husbands doing the same thing!!
Desiree - Oh, I do hope you get to see some of the wedding. I'm sure it will be quite a spectacle! Yes, having Alfred here staying with us for the past couple of weeks, I know about puppies now, but he was so good. They just had to make sure that they were up at 7 a.m. every morning, but he is one year old now. Like having little babies in the house, isn't it?! But I'm sure they're worth it!! Yes, I have been to M&S and I've got lovely treats for my friend and I to nibble on and eat during the day, and my husband will just have to have an oven ready meal tomorrow!
Wonderful This! :) We will be in front of our TV too on Friday morning, just a wee bit earlier. I can remember being in high school and sitting in our living room, close up to the TV on low so as to not wake up my parents when Charles and Diana were married.
If he gets a Dukedom, will he also still be known as a Prince. I know nothing of titles, but it would seem he would keep that one too.
And yes, definitely nibbles! Definitely. :)
SkippyMom - hi there! I shall be thinking of you, watching it too! I'm getting quite excited now, I must admit, and, yes, plenty of nibbles indeed!! No, if he gets made a Duke, he will not be called Prince William any more, it would be William, Duke of ..... Far too staid a title for a lovely young couple like that!!
Hi This! ~ Yes... I must say, that I am very excited about the royal wedding! My Miranda is the MOST excited!! She would give anything to be in London for the event!! She and I have been planning our trip over there, but it won't be for a couple of years when she graduates college. Gotta' save my pennies, too! -- Also.... We had a horrible night of many devastating tornadoes, here in Southeast USA. Many deaths and much destruction. If you would... please say a prayer for those that lost loved ones and/or their homes. ((HUGS)) to you, my friend! Enjoy the wedding!
Becky - well, you MUST let me know when you do plan your trip to London and I will have to try to get up there to meet up with you for a while! Gosh, I am so sorry about the terrible weather that you are experiencing at the moment. I do hope that you, your family and your home will remain safe, but of course I will pray for all those who have lost lives and their homes. It must be utterly devastating for them. Take care.
enjoy the wedding i will be watching kids instead
I was among the 750 million who watched the wedding of Charles and Diana on the tellie in 1981. As I told a young lady that you might know by the name of Gawgus, I can picture a tuxedo clad Alfred stealing the show at tomorrow's ceremony. I just watched The King's Speech a few nights ago, Thisisme, and enjoyed it immensely. Have a wonderful Devonish day, dear friend!
I share your hopes that the couple will have a long and happy marriage unlike the marriage of Diana as I have discovered recently that they bearly knew each other. This was a lovely post and "no" Odie will not be watching the event on TV. I will see the clips that news channels show but other than that I choose not to. Have a wonderful day.
Odie
Your post is just wonderful! I can't wait to watch it too. The time difference is working in my favour for a change as it will be supper time over here so I will be able to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine to toast the happy couple! I will think of you and send you a virtual toast too.
Best wishes always,
Natasha.
I have been patiently waiting for this wonderful, exciting event. ALAS, the phone company accidentally cut my cable line when they were installing my new line that I cut digging a garden! WAAAAA! I wonder if any of the sports bars around here will televise it. Maybe I'll be lucky and find it online.
A great tribute to a lovely couple that I certainly hope will be left in peace as much as possible to get on with their lives.
Yes, those of us across the pond are excited about the wedding - just as we were with Charles and Diana. We are living out our childhood fantasy's through the royal couple. I remember thinking that I would someday marry a prince and he would whisk me away to a castle far, far away. Of course, my husband is a prince to me and like they say, my home is my castle.
Becca - I'm sure you will be able to catch the highlights, if you want to see it!
Shady - Yes, Alfred would look really cute in a tuxedo, wouldn't he, AND he would be very well behaved!! I'm so glad you enjoyed The Kings Speech. It will be out here on DVD next week, so I shall be able to watch it again then!
Odie - no, my husband isn't the least bit interested in watching it either!! But you know us women, we do like a bit of romance!!
Natasha - lovely to hear from you! That will be nice for you that it will be suppertime. I will think of you whilst I'm watching it as well. Sending hugs all the way 'down under'!
kneesandpaws - DOH! I can't believe that's happened! Poor you. Do hope you manage to catch it somewhere!
LindyLouMac in Italy - Hear Hear! Let's hope so anyway.
Glenda Manus - Aaaw! That's really sweet that your husband is your very own Prince!! Bless!
Oh I was in hopes of nice weather for the wedding day. Just had some news on the tv, and the gal was reporting from London and there was sun shining on something, behind her, when it began. But more cloudy, later. But of course, you are 5-6 hours ahead of us, across the Pond.
Coverage begins here at 4am but I won't be getting up to watch this one. I guess I kind of used-up my Royal Watching, with Princess Diana. -sigh-
Oh my, I was a total Di-junkie for sure!!!!!!!!!! Everything! Simply everything about her, I had. :-) And followed... And followed... And followed...
It seems as if this match is a more stable one. I very much hope so. The Royal Family is due for some nice, happy, ordinary, I'd say. :-))))) And I do hope everyone gets this... With this wedding.
Enjoy!!!
~♥~
And also, being 74 years of age, I have been around for a lot of Royal History!!!
I remember "The Little Princesses," Elizabeth's wedding, all the saga of Princess Margaret Rose, the Royal children being born, and onward....... To all the events and happenings which many of your readers remember too. :-)
I feel like I've been around *forever.* And I *nearly* have been. :-)
~♥~
I'll be watching with you across the sea.
I too have been watching the BBC channels, learning back ground on William, Harry, Kate and her family.
I have the wedding on DVR as we have our creative weekend starting tomorrow... I am excited to watch.
I LOVED Princess Diana and cried when I heard of her death. I was so touched when William gave Kate his Mother's ring. It will be a very touching event...those who loved Diana, will remember her as they watch her son marry...
Guess what am I doing now? Watching the wedding! Simply lovely :) Hope you enjoyed yourself!
Aunt Amelia's Attic - Well, the weather was kind to them, so that was good! I really do think that this will be a good solid marriage. They both seem so grounded and just a fun couple. Good luck to them! Oh my! I was such a huge fan of Diana as well and, like you, collected everything. So sad what they did to that poor girl. As you say, you have seen a LOT of royal events in your lifetime!
Chatty Crone - hope you enjoyed it, as I did. I thought Kate's dress was awesome!
Donna B - I'm sure you will have a wonderful creativity weekend, and you can then watch the royal wedding at your leisure. It was amazing and everything went perfectly! Yes, I thought it was very touching that William gave Kate his mother's ring. Definitely will have thoughts of the lovely Diana today, and what might have been :(
