In Honour of Grandparents ....

Well, I have been thinking of how very blessed I am to have my three delightful grandchildren, and I thought that perhaps it would be rather nice to devote a post to Grandparents.  I hope you enjoy it!

GRANDMA'S FLOWERS

Each time I go to Grandma's place

To spend some summer hours,
She lets me pick a big bouquet
Of pretty garden flowers.
I've learned the names of almost all
The flowers Grandma grows:
Carnation, iris, pansy, phlox
Petunia, and rose.
The sweet pea is my favorite;
It has a lovely smell.
The flower Grandma likes the best
Is Canterbury bell.
I think my Grandma's wonderful
And hope that when I'm grown,
I'll have a "green thumb" just like hers
And flowers of my own.

GRANDPARENTS

Grandparents bestow upon their grandchildren
The strength and wisdom that time
And experience have given them.

Grandchildren bless their Grandparents
With a youthful vitality and innocence
That help them stay young at heart forever.

Together they create a chain of love
Linking the past with the future.
The chain may lengthen,
But it will never part...

GRANDMOTHER'S TALENT

A grandmother has a special talent-
She always knows just what to do
To make her grandchildren happy
And to show she loves them, too.

At the family get-togethers,
She's the first person to look for-
She can entertain small children for hours,
And they always keep asking for more.

You can tell when a grandmother's teasing
By the twinkle that shines in her eyes-
She's an expert at settling problems,
For she's loving, patient and wise.

Her grandchildren always admire her,
Even when they are grown-
They always feel proud and happy
To claim Grandmother as their own!

GRANDMA'S HUGS ARE MADE OF LOVE!

Everything my grandma does
is something special made with love.
She take time to add the extra touch
that says, "I love you very much."

She fixes hurts with a kiss and smile
and tell good stories grandma-style.
It's warm and cozy on her lap
for secret telling or a nap.

And when I say my prayer at night,
I ask God to bless and hold her tight.
Cause when it comes to giving hugs
my grandma's arms are filled with love!

GRANDPA'S TOOL SHED

Grandpa's tool shed is a special place,
Full of mystery and delight,
Where little kids can come and watch
While Grandpa builds a kite.

Each day before the sunset,
Grandpa is always there,
The sound of his saw and hammer
Filling the evening air.

Grandpa can fix anything
And make it look brand-new-
He fixes toy cars and airplanes,
Trucks and trailers, too.

There are many happy moments
Pleasant to recall,
But Grandpa in his tool shed
Is the nicest one of all.

GRANDMOTHER

A grandmother who's special
Who's caring and sincere.
Who's always took good care of me
And always brought good cheer.

A grandmother who's loving
Who's patient and kind.
Who's always made me smile
And always on my mind.

A grandmother who's sweet
Who's gentle and polite.
Who's always made me laugh
After a scary night.

You'll always be the best
No matter where you are.
You'll always be in my heart
And in God's hands..

Ahh, Diane, this was indeed a wonderful post. I loved the photographs of those darling, wonderful, beautiful and precious grands of yours! My how they are growing!
Hope the sun starts shining in your neck of the world...we are hoping to get some rain and relief from the heat. Seems like we need a fruit basket turnover in the world's weather department!
Hugs~

Hallo, dear Thisisme! I was bowled over from the very start by the magnificent header picture. In fact, all images in this post melt my heart. It makes me so happy to see my dear friend Thisisme smiling, looking happy and surrounded by those she loves and that love her back. With Gawgus absent from blogging in recent weeks it's been quite a while since I have laid eyes on my good friend Alfred.

This is a marvelous tribute to grandparenting, one of the most important roles we can play in shaping young lives. It reminds me of the Rod Stewart song "Forever Young."

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road that you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud, dignified and true
And do unto others as you'd have done to you

Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to Heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young

Bless you, dear friend Thisisme. Have a safe and happy weekend and be sure to roll out the welcome mat for your French visitors on Sunday!

Now this is a glorious post! Your grandchildren are beautiful, which is no surprise because they take after their grandma, don't they?

What a blessing you are to their lives. I'm sure one day they will be telling their own grandchildren about you.

Dear Diane, your family is precious and so full of smiles. Your new header with Ruby Violet and Eli eating grahm crackers by your side is heart melting. They are growing so much. I remember the first picture I ever saw of Eli, when he was a baby and being swung around by a friend. He looked like he was flying toward the camera. That was so funny and delightful. Your family is just like that, full of joy. I feel at home when I visit your blog, which is such a nice feeling.

I'm smiling and teary eyed and wishing I had gone with hubby to see our grandson this morning. He's only 10 minutes away and I just saw him last night, but this made me miss him. Silly? No, just being a grandma. ;-)

If the kids weren't in the pics' with you I would have a hard time, VERY hard time seeing you as a Grandma. :)

And your header? First - it took my breath away. Then? It made me cry. So, so happy that you have that smile on your face after all you have been through, with 2 of your lovelies with beside you. ::wiping my eyes:: Can I blame you when Pooldad walks in the door in 15 mins? giggle

You are gorgeous. Very easy to see where those cuties get it from.

Official Grandparents Day [in the US at least] used to be September 16. I never forgot my MIL - she so deserved a gift for being so wonderful [that was my first one] and the MIL I have now is just as special as a Grandma - so I will be remembering her and Grandpa in September. Although I TRY to everyday. :D

Hugs and much LOVE!

Diane,
You are looking well.

I only have my Grandad left and he is almost 91.
I miss my nana the most as she was my best friend and only got to meet my eldest 17 years ago.

My children cherish their grandparents :)

Hoping it will be a few years before I am a nana. :)

Ain't it the truth Thisisme? We're all those things, for the love of our Grandchildren, whom we're allowed to love and nurture in our ways! Love all of your poems and quotes...and, the photos, especially Eli's blue socks with the yellow design.

Shady's 'Forever Young' rendition is very cool (so is Rod Stewart, lol). Have a great week.♥
