Feeling Quite Sick This Morning ....

Good morning my friends.  I was going to say, let's hope that it's going to be a good week, but, from my family's point of view, we have Kelly's funeral on Wednesday morning, so that will obviously be a very sad day.  Emma and family will be arriving here tomorrow and she will go back to Paris on the 24th.  I will drive back with them and stay for a week.

The title of my post today?  No, I am not feeling physically sick(well, almost), but an incident occurred which has left rather a bad taste in my mouth.

We did have this problem quite a while back, with the question of photographs.  People have said to me that, once you put a photo on your blog or on facebook, it is out there on the Web for everyone and anyone to see, and use it, unless it is quite clearly copyrighted.

We might not like it, but that's the way it is.  Back when I first started blogging, I was a bit naive in some ways, and I know that I took photos from Pinterest and inserted them into my blog.  Very soon after that, and with reading other peoples' blogs, I realised that they were stating where their images came from.

From then on, I have always done the same, stating that images are "courtesy of Pinterest" and providing a link to their site.  Even if I see a quote or verse on another blog, out of courtesy, I always ask if it would be alright for me to use that image (even though they have just got it from the Web).

Anyway, to cut a long story short (sorry to be going on, but I am trying to paint the picture for you), I had an e-mail from someone saying that I had used one of her images.  She also left comments on my blog, and was clearly in quite a state about it.

I e-mailed her right back, explaining what I had said above and sending her best wishes.  But she wasn't having none of it and came back with another tirade.  I have now gone back THREE YEARS and deleted the offending photograph. (of a rice pudding, would you believe?).  She has informed me that I am now on her Wall of Shame.

It really has left me shaking.  I have never experienced anything like this before and have met such lovely, friendly, generous and supporting friends through blogging.  After I deleted the photo, I was just going to let it drop, but i'm afraid that I left another comment, saying that my daughter's best friend had recently died, leaving behind a three year old daughter, and I felt that THAT really was something to get into a state about.

I'm sure she will be getting back to me.  Sorry about this dear friends.  I usually try to keep my posts uplifting, but it has really upset me.  I just thought she could have said, "I accept what you have said, but please make sure that you never do it again."

Oh dear!  See you again soon.

Dear Diane,
How does anyone ever know the original source of everything that lands on Pinterest? If that is where you found it, then that should be the end of it. Bloggers normally are honored to have their ideas shared on that site, and realize the nature of the web as a big concoction of everyone's ideas. Some people take things too far, and far too seriously. My goodness. Please don't continue to allow yourself to be harassed. You have done what needed to be done, and there is nothing more. Very recently, I have been practicing a method of "reversing" negative thoughts by restating them in the opposite direction. Whenever you find yourself thinking too much about this, imagining that you need to waste precious energy during a time of grief, create a new thought. Remember that the internet has a short attention span!

All of that (from her) over a photo of rice pudding? I would say, you've done your best - you deleted the photo. The problem is now hers, not yours. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

Dearest Diane,
I can see how much emotional stress this must have caused you! I feel so bad that I cannot express what I think in English well. But from what I read, I also agree with Jennifer that you have done what you could have. And I thought she was quite right that "the internet has a short attention span". I DO hope you won't hurt your sweet heart any longer, my friend.

May Kelly's spirit rest in peace!

Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my friend in England, xoxo Miyako*

Rice puddinggate? It's hard for me to believe there are people who can be so petty. This episode comes right on the heels of our discussion of bullying. I'm terribly distressed to learn that this revolting development has upset the tranquility of your life, dear friend. You are the last person on earth who should come under fire because you make it your mission to spread happiness and good cheer throughout the world. I hope you can get this matter resolved quickly and painlessly. Please remember that we are all here in support of you!

Oh, my friend, I'm so sorry you are having to deal with such mean spirited pettiness during a time of such sadness. This rice person pudding obviously values her rice pudding more than anything else. She probably has issues inside her going on that are much larger than the rice pudding pic.

Your blog is always one of my favorite places to come. The times I've had a really mean spirited comment or two on one of my posts, I was always comforted and calmed by the people like you who shed such generosity on and kindness. Her comments define her, not you. You and your blog are greatly loved here.

Sigh, how sad that this person's life is so empty she has to make issue over a pudding picture. You, on the other hand live a glorious life filled with love and family and friends who admire and appreciate the joy, sunshine and happiness you offer us all. This incident reminds me of the quote, 'It's the little grain of sand in your shoe that wears us down'. Don't let that grain of sand get you down, dear friend. You DO see the big picture, I know. This person appears to be going through life with the emphasis on the wrong sy la ble as the saying goes...
Big hugs to you and Emma and all your family this week. I have you all tucked in my heart and sending prayers of love and comfort for you all and Kelly's dear family as well.

If you recall I had the situation where someone put pictures of my grandchildren on Pinterest. Now that was something to be upset about..not rice pudding! You don't need to be upset any longer because by being upset you've given this person the control to make you that way. They don't deserve that. You are the nicest blogger I've EVER met! Hugs my awesome friend! XX

You apologized. You did your part. Some people look for problems and live their whole life feasting on negativity. You owe her no more explanation. Be done with her.
Thoughts with you for strength and peace duringt he service tomorrow.

Oh my goodness, that is a bunch of hooey. I would ignore this rudeness as best I could. some people you cannot be nice to.

Oh, Diane...I agree with the others. You are such a good and loving person, and to have someone be so mean and rude to you is just awful. Please know you are in my thoughts and I wish you peace, especially during this sad time in your family's life. Hugs....

What the...? I have seen a few of my photos that I took myself used on other's blogs, and one actually on facebook as the person's profile picture. And, like you, I have asked permission to use someone's quote or picture. I do have one Pinterest post of my own photography and there have been some repins from it. I understood that to be a possibility, so if I don't want them taken, I don't post them.

I was made to understand that if you put a photo or quote out there, it's up for the using by anyone. It's very rude of this person to ostrasize you when you clearly identify the source of your pictures and information!

I commend you Thisisme for your wonderful blog, and contributions to our bright days through your fun pictures and stories!

Rice Pudding? pshaw!!! Hugs to you and your family! ♥

It seems to be the way of life that when something really upsetting is happening in your life, there will someone coming along to give you a kicking when you're down. Quite frankly what a ridiculous carry on over a picture of a rice pudding - the way I look at it, as soon as you put a picture up, you've released it into the World of Web to fly free - there's nothing you can do about it. Facebook use your pictures, its in their terms and conditions that if you put it up, it becomes their property. Sorry that this is happening to you at such an emotional time. Chin up; the World is full of beautiful, kind people, you and I both know that - don't dwell on anything else xxx

Diane, Dear Heart,
You are known and loved here and we forgive your wrong doing, such as it was. Forgive the blighter and forget about it. I hope your visit to France will be a nice, relaxing one and that you will come home to peace and tranquility once more. Love the photo of your apple trees, by the way. Harvest and thanksgiving.

Diane first I'm sorry for your daughter's loss and secondly, pay no mind to people who are immature and ignorant. There will always be one or two or even three :) out there that make a fuss over nothing or in this case rice pudding :)

An unpleasant experience but sadly not an uncommon one in the world of blogging and social media. People can be so nasty about such an innocent mistake!
