Tis Autumn ....

Happy Sunday dear bloggy friends.

I've always loved that line from the John Keats' famous poem, 'Ode to Autumn' where he describes it as 'the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness'. The poem, apparently, was inspired when Keates went for a walk through the gorgeous water meadows beside the River Itchen, which is just a stroll away from the magnificent Cathedral at Winchester, here in England.

The following photo of the Cathedral is taken from the October issue of the UK edition of Good Housekeeping magazine, as is the stunning photo of Autumn woodland in the New Forest, which is in the County of Hampshire here In England.

I'm afraid I'm getting a little paranoid about inserting photos that are not my own, since the episode of the rice pudding this past week!

When I was younger, I always thought that Spring was my favourite time of the year, with the hope of a glorious Summer in front of us, everything bursting with new life, and the vibrant freshness of the new leaves on the trees.

Perhaps it is because I, myself, am now in the Autumn of my years, that I find this season so wonderful, with all the magnificent array of stunning colours on the trees all around us.

The warm smell of wood smoke as people light up their bonfires, collecting conkers that have dropped from the Chestnut trees, and the childlike feeling of skipping through dry crispy leaves.

The evenings start to pull in, and we light the lamps to make our home warm and cosy inside. This year, of course, we have our new woodburner as well, so we will be as snug as a little bug in a rug! Take care my friends and I will see you again soon

You've just described beautifully why autumn is my favorite season. We don't have much of one here as it's still quite warm, but I do enjoy all the other things that go with it. I loved seeing little Alfred enjoying himself and staying warm!

Fall is my favorite season, and always has been. I love the colors, the crisp air, and the fall clothing always appeals to me.

Hallo, dear Thisi-kins! With the mercury in Florida still reaching a blazing hot 90 nearly every day, I'd love to be over there with you right now to experience English autumn. It would be great fun to light a fire in the woodburner and curl up with Alfred and have a snooze. I can't tell you how happy I am to see a picture of my good buddy again and to know he's doing well.

I have many fond memories of going on autumn hikes in the country with my father, smelling the fruity, musky scent of the woodlands, seeing the bright, beautiful colors of leaves still on the trees and rolling on the ground in piles of dry, fallen leaves. My friends and I often had leaf battles, throwing giant armfuls at each other. Another favorite autumn activity was sitting inside a large tractor tire and having my friends roll me down a hill. Such fun! I miss all of those things and much more, Thisisme, and I thank you for jogging my memory with this delightful post today.

Happy Sunday to you, dear friend. Please give Alfred a pat on the noggin and a biscuit from Shady!

Autumn is lovely but fleeting. Wool sweaters come out of the closets and join the crisp new season.
May you be having an exciting weekend.

What beautiful autumn pics Thisisme! Haha, I just can't get over the troubles you have over the rice pudding! Don't blame you for being skiddish...but, see if you can flick it off your shoulder and chuckle to yourself-if not, I'll be glad to to do the flicking for you!

I could not have described my autumn feelings as well as you did...but, I concur my friend! Love autumn and the wonderful colors...yes, rolling around in the piles of leaves after we raked them up the first time! Yeah, I could see Shady being rolled down a hill in a tractor tire, lol!

This was lovely, Thisisme...I am cooking fresh apples with you on my mind this morning, and your wonderful old trees. I will be making apple pie when they're done-no, I'm sorry, don't like to make my own crust, but I will do the apples. Have a wonderful Sunday and hotel, (lol) my friend! ♥

Enjoying autumn through your pictures as it is still summer here in Florida. Love little Alfred staying warm and comfy in front of the fire. Hope you are enjoying having the family with you. Hugs my awesome friend!! XX

I agree with you about autumn. Spring used to be my favorite season also. Now it is autumn.

Your hearth looks mighty welcoming. We've been lighting our fire lately also. We light ours with a flip of the switch. My hubby wasn't cold and didn't want it on tonight until he came in from taking the dog out. Then, he said let's light the fireplace because I am freezing. It is snowing here. The leave won't last long.

Autumn has a special place in my heart since we moved to a part of our country that actually has four seasons! I will always remember the first time I saw real fall coloring in the Smoky Mountains in Georgia! Thank you dear friend for sharing these lovely photos and don't dare quit posting photos! I enjoy them immensely and would miss them so...

Hugs to you and yours and have a lovely journey to France. I'm keeping Emma in my prayers...

Love the colours of Autumn, but that is about it. I look forward already to Spring and longer daylight hours, hours of darkness, along with cold weather and snow, appeals to me less the older I get. :) However I know I should and do try to appreciate and find special moments in every season.

I must go in search of Keat's poem! Those photos are so lovely. I also am appreciating autumn more than spring, and nearly wrote a similar post last week. It's interesting how our appreciations for more complex things happens with time. Autumn sunshine is different, the rays are spread out instead of beaming from overhead. The smell of leaves is divine. The coziness of everything and the mist is filling up my soul! Thank you for writing what I was thinking. We are kindred spirits I believe!

Hello Dear Friend,
You know my favorite time of year has always been spring, but now am really enjoying autumn. I like the sun going down early and lighting the fireplace, baking and the cool and refreshing mornings. Love your pictures. Hugs...Lu
