I met up with daughter number 2 yesterday, and she told me about something that had happened to them on Sunday, whilst they were driving along with the children to an Adventure Play Park.
It transpires that they were driving along, when a huge lorry literally pulled out in front of them from a side junction, not bothering to stop at all. As Alison said, if her husband was just a bit distacted at that very second, there would have been a tragic accident. As it was, they had to pull out into the oncoming traffic lane and, again, fortunately, nothing was coming the other way, so they were safe.
Needless to say, I gave her a huge hug when she told me this story. Any other outcome, really doesn't bear thinking about. I firmly believe that nothing is by chance. When it is our time to go, then we will go. I just thank God that he was looking after them on that particular occasion.
I still remember when Emma was three years old, I was driving along, when I looked in my rear view mirror and saw this car hurtling towards me at breakneck speed. There was nothing I could do, it all happened so quickly. But my car was flung up in the air, off the road and landed beside a Church, which was set back off the road.
Emma was flung through the windscreen, and I could hear her screaming outside. People came rushing up and an ambulance was called, and we were both taken to hospital. I had quite bad facial injuries and severe bruising where the steering wheel had gone into me. When I saw Emma, there was blood all over her face, and I could see all the cuts but, thankfully, and don't ask me why, they were only superficial cuts, and she wasn't left with any scars at all.
The thing is, about a week later there was a knock on the door, and a Vicar was standing there. He said that he just wanted to tell me that where my car landed was solid concrete only three hours before the accident. Five tons of topsoil had been delivered that very morning. Hence the reason that we weren't more seriously injured. Now you tell me that someone wasn't looking after us on that occasion!
How many times do we read instances of this when something really tragic occurs? 9/11 is a classic case, when people were saying that they stopped on their way to the office to get a paper, or they overslept, or a myriad of other reasons. Exactly the same thing happened when we had the London Bombings. People that always caught that train at the same time, every day, every year, had (for whatever reason) cause to miss it on that particular day.
Gosh, not a particularly uplifting post from me today I suppose you could say. I'm sure we all know by now just how fragile life is, and how we really must try to make the most out of every day.
Perhaps I had better leave you with a few quotes, all courtesy of Pinterest.
I have to apologise dear bloggies, for not visiting you in the past few days. I hope to catch up with you all soon. Take care and keep well.

I am simply awestruck at your accident story. And completely thankful that your daughter, her husband and the children were able to avoid the lorry and oncoming traffic. Some might believe that all of life is a series of random chance, but I believe there is a greater operation going on that we are just not able to see. Thank you for sharing this story and also the quotes. I feel them in my heart.
A moving post, which of course you know and understand how much it meant to me. Thanks for sharing a story that makes us all stop and think.
This has me shuddering and shaking, dear Thisisme. I can't bear to think of you or any of your loved ones getting hurt, especially Ruby and Eli. God was surely looking after them that day. I am also shaken by the story you told of your own crash when Emma was a child. I pray that there will be no more such tales to tell in your lifetime.
I always remain on high alert when driving because tragedy can strike in a split second. I am firmly against people texting, phoning or gaming whilst driving because those distractions dramatically increase the odds of being involved in an accident. Some people even have a screen embedded in the dash so that they can watch movies whilst driving! Playing the radio or car stereo loudly or having an animated chat with a car filled with people are also dangerous distractions that invite disaster.
Eliminating distractions helps ensure our safety and the safety of our friends, family and innocent motorists and pedestrians. The rest is up to the good Lord.
Extra hugs from me to you, dear friend. Take good care of yourself.
That's an awesome story. So glad it turned out well. God is still the "only" one in control. I've been spared a number of times in my life, starting at age 16.
Oh, my goodness!!! I am so thankful that all were OK in those horrifying stories! You are so right- the good Lord watches over us. It makes me even more thankful that we have His gentle hands to carry us, always. What a story about the load of dirt, my friend. That would make a very inspiring story should you ever want to write that up for the Chicken Soup for the Soul books or the like-
I'm so glad that everyone is okay. Both stories do indeed show how fragile our lives are and some things cannot be explained - just given thanks for.
I cannot even begin to think what you went through with your accident and Emmas being flung throw the windscreen and you injuries too!! and this with Alison now. It just takes a split second but God was with them ♥
How lucky for your family that your son-in-law has quick reflexes. I think driving is spooky with all the traffic. How fortunate you were to recover so bravely from your accident. But something like that remains with one forever.
Love and peace
My awesome friend...your story just reiterates my belief in that we all have angels with us. What a horrific story about you and Emma. I'm so glad it turned out as it did. And I'm also relieved that someone was watching over Alison and family. Every day truly is a gift! Hugs XX
Are you taking deep breaths? Someone is watching out for you and yours, Thisisme! Your son-in-law should be commended for taking such care of his family. You know, we've got people talking on cell phones and not paying attention...we're supposed to watch out for them (and, we really do!)
The memories of your accident when Emma was young must still be horrendous! Your guardian angel is always on guard dear friend! Hugs!♥
Thanks God for saving them from the accident. We need to be more careful while driving. If we go in correct way also we need to be careful by others.
Thank God that your precious ones were not hurt. I remember our pastor telling us one time that we never know how many times God has interceded in our lives to keep us from danger. We really don't. Your story about the accident you were in is just amazing. I've had a few close calls myself. We just never know, do we?
My goodness what a story that proves there are angels among us.
So glad that both stories turned out so well, we are being looked after indeed. We might not think about it until something like this happens in our lives that makes us think.
Have a lovely weekend!
Dearest Diane;
How true it must be that "nothing is by chance"!!! So Glad to hear things haven't turned serious ones for both of the times. Even if I'm not a Christian, I believe things are kind of destined.
As for the car accident, I have three experiences I really remember that we were lucky not get involved serious cases. (Thank God)
I HOPE your weather is not a crazy one now in your place, my fried. And So sorry my belated comment.
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan to my friend in England, xoxo Miyako*
