Changing of the Seasons

I spoke in my last Post of how I loved Autumn, if the days were dry and bright. I love crunching along on crisp, fallen leaves and admiring the changing colours everywhere.

However next weekend, here in the U.K., the clocks go back and the darker mornings and evenings will be with us once again. Many enjoy the closing of the curtains,  and perhaps enjoying the crackling of an open log fire or woodburner. The feeling of being cosy and warm.

I like to light scented candles as well, to make it even more snug and cosy. I'm fine with this at the beginning, as, the weekend after Thanksgiving, which we don't celebrate here, I decorate the house for Christmas, and there are twinkling fairy lights everywhere!  I do love Christmas!

But it's after Christmas is over and all the pretty ornaments are packed away once again in their boxes, and the lights dismantled from every nook and cranny, that I start to feel rather gloomy.

However, I know that many people really do suffer at the onset of the darker evenings.  It can lead to feeling rather low, feelings of apathy, and general loss of energy.

Sometimes it is rather difficult to remain positive at times like this and those negative thoughts can become difficult to dismiss.

Reading a good book can help us lose ourselves, and I find that playing my favourite music rather loudly can all help to lift my mood. Luckily, I have no neighbours!

So, to you all, I hope that you can find some pleasures in these soon to become shorter days, so that we can all head towards Christmas in good spirits.

Here are a few positive quotes to help you on your way ....

I always dread the shorter days with less light in them, but I also like the cosiness of home during those days. Hugs.

No Thanksgiving? Hehehe.
I don't like winter with its dark, dreary days. I love to read, but that's not enough to cheer me up. I need lots and lots of sunshine.

I do love this time of year. And Thanksgiving happens to be my favorite holiday. It's not about gifts or buying or running around looking for things. It truly is about being Thankful. We gather what members can join the clan, sometimes all sometimes a slim amount. And we are joyous in the relaxed celebration of being happy for the life we have.

I love the other holidays, don't get me wrong. I'm a party kind of gal, but the pace of Thanksgiving is relaxed and centered around the lovely colors and aromas of fall.

I"m like you after Christmas. The cold sets in and I'm wishing for warmer days and time and can be out gardening and enjoying the outdoors without the worry of icy steps or achy cold bones.

Christmas is coming...can't wait to see what you have in store for us! Big hugs~ And Alfred looks so wonderfully cozy!

I ended up with another cat, just because of this reason of feeling dreary when the sun sets so early and the cold arrives. It was a big mistake, because she's ruined the carpets and now has to live outside on our covered porch and will winter there in a snug and cozy kitty house that Richard built, complete with an electric heating pad. So this year, I'm going to be smarter and take your advice to turn up the music, put logs in the fireplace, and fool my body into thinking that I don't need to hibernate. Otherwise, I will probably go to bed every night by 8 pm.

Hi Retired English Teacher - Sally. We will both have to try to make indoors as cosy and welcoming as we can !

Grammy - Patricia - let's hope we get some lovely bright, sunny days then during the months ahead. I know! It's just too bad that we don't have Thanksgiving here in England bits a bummer!

Sush - Susan. I can imagine how much you look forward to Thanksgiving. It's such a lovely Holiday. I do envy you all! My goodness, yes, we really have to make sure we don't go falling down. That would not be good! Sometimes it's just as bad on wet leaves. Hugs.

Jennifer - thank you for popping across the pond! I guess most of us are the same when the days start drawing in. We'll have to make a pact to try to fight it off this year! What a shame about the carpets. Oh dear! But at least the little kitty is snug and warm on your covered porch.

So glad you had such a nice visit in the U.S. I love fall, but like you, January is my bleakest and longest month. Thank you for stopping by my blog. Your grandchildren are growing so quickly.

Hallo Linda. Good to see you over here, and, yes, I so enjoyed the U.S. I always say America, but my friend says you always refer to it as the U.S.! Enjoy your Halloween!
