All Things Italian

Most of my 'older' Followers will know that Italy is my favourite place (Venice is in my heart!) and I thought today that I would post a few photos which, hopefully, will give you a good flavour of the country.

All images from Pinterest.

"You may have the universe, if I may have Italy." - Giuseppe Verdi.

"Italy is a dream that keeps returning for the rest of your life." = Unknown.

Venice is like eating an entire box of chocolate liqueurs in one go. ~ Truman Capote.

Is there any place that holds a special place in your heart?

I would love to visit Italy. I was in Rome for only three days with my parents in 1972, the year I finished school and loved what we saw, but to explore the villages would be marvellous! Favourite place? It would have to be somewhere in the African bush!

I dream of a month in Tuscany...my brother-in-law and his wife did just that and the stories are fantastic. But then again, I would love to visit Scotland and look around for ancestors and do the same in France...and Ireland.

I don't know if I have a favorite place, I'm with Bethe..with those I love~

Hugs~

I would love to go to Venice, my favourite place is anywhere by the sea, but particularly Cornwall and the Isle of Wight x

Bethe - I'm sure you would love Italy but, you are right, anywhere where we are those that we love. Have a lovely weekend.

Desiree - Yes, like any country, there is so much to explore and wonder at in Italy. The architecture is out of this world! I can just see you out in the African bush under a beautiful starry sky!

Sush - Tuscany is absolutely beautiful. I have never been to Scotland (or Ireland!), so I really must make a visit one of these days.

Claudia - thank you. Ah Paris! The most romantic city in the world.

dubgirl - Venice is so beautiful - but it does get crowded of course. I'm with you, I love anywhere by the sea. Have a lovely time in Cornwall next week. I'm sure you will!

Hi, My Dear Lady!!!

Oh, these pics reminded me of my WONDERFUL trip♬♬♬
I was lucky that during my 40's I could have several experiences traveling European countries with friends. To Italy was a tuor-trip and been to famous tourist spots including the Square of Spain, Trevi Fountains etc. Oh,LOVELY memories♪♪♪
One thing I couldn't do> I had dreamed to have a gelato like Audrey Hepburn in "Roman Holiday". (*^_^*)
Lots of love and Hugs xoxo, Orchid.

I fancied Truman Capote's quote, Thisisme. I was tempted to give the Shady Dell as my answer but instead I will tell you that St. Croix in the Virgin Islands was a wonderful getaway that I enjoyed some 20 years ago. I would love to see those sights in Italy someday. Thank you for reminding me of the natural and architectural beauty there is in the world for those willing to seek it out.

Raindrops and Daisies - Hi Fiona. I'm so glad that I've found someone that adores Italy as much as I do! As you say, it's the food, the language, just everything.AND the men - you will notice that I sneaked a little photo of them in there. They are just so gorgeous and stylish! Have a great weekend.

Orchid - hi there my little Japanese friend. Oh, I'm so pleased that you have experienced Italy! Isn't it wonderful. What a pity you didn't get to taste the gelato (ice-cream) like Audrey Hepburn! She was lovely too, wasn't she?! Have a lovely weekend my friend. Hugs.

Southhamsdarling said...

Shady - hallo on this quite dreary morning here in England!! Hope you are well. Wow! The Virgin Islands - did you go there for any specific reason by any chance?! LOL! - that must have been a terrific experience for you. I have been to St Lucia in the Caribbean and that was pretty special too. The architecture in Italy is just stunning. Everywhere you turn it's, "Wow!!". Hope you have a relaxing weekend.

Wonderulf pics. I've only been there once, but it is still engraved in my memory.

I enjoy South Padre Island here in Texas and Jackson Hole Wyoming.

My mum loves Venice - she went there as a school girl.

I love Subang Jaya in Kuala Lumpur. I met the most fantastic people there as a missionary and developed friendships that will last forever.

To answer your question I was given a vacation in St. Croix as a bonus by my company, the television station where I worked as production manager. Two years later I was given a similar gift of a week long trip to Aruba. To answer your other question we've have searing 95 degree heat here for weeks on end. I'm sorry that your weather has taken a gloomy turn once again. I'm glad it stayed nice for your trip to the zoo! Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend!

I've never been to Italy but it is definitely on my "list". Everything about it looks undeliverable.

I have 2 places that I adore, the first being New York and the second is Paris which I posted about today.

And yes...I am very very jealous! Please, please take lots of pictures and have a few Laduree macarons for me!

Shelly - I'm glad you enjoyed the pics today and that was nice that you have been to Italy. Wyoming sounds like real cowboy country to me! I would love to go to America one day.

Duncan = Venice is a very special place. That's lovely that you have made friendships for life when you were a Missionary.

Shady = thank you so much for coming back to answer my questions! You were obviously very good at your job. I'm sorry you still have that searing heat. It must just sap all the energy out of you.

Natasha - I love Paris as well, but I've never been to New York. I very much hope to get there one day, as everyone says how amazing it is, and I have never met anyone who didn't think it was a fantastic experience. Hugs.

I have never traveled internationally, although I would've liked to, so if I have to pick somewhere I have actually been then it would be a toss between my Grandmother's farm in Maryland or my IL's country house. But you knew that. heehee

Italy looks lovely and my ILs have been and their stories and pictures are wonderful.

LindyLouMac in Italy - it took me ages to do that new header for my blog! But at least I do try! YES, you should be promoting your wonderful blog all about Italy (I should have mentioned it as well :(). I love the pictures especially the homes built into the mountain side. That must be one gorgeous view! My favorite place out of the states is definitely Bermuda. I will return someday. And here in the states it has to be Mystic, CT. I spent a lot of time there. Alot of time alone there too. Great little village, a park along the Mystic River and sitting there with coffee and book was my idea of paradise some days. Love your post.

What a lovely post my sweet bloggy friend. I have been so fortunate to travel and live in so many wonderful places in the world.
There are still places in the US I would like to see.
I think "one" of my favorite places though would be the Oregon Coast. The Canon beach area in particular. Time spent by the sea is never time wasted. Hugs

Sad to say I have not had the chance to travel much but my heart has always had the desire to. I did get to travel to Oregon in the '70's at the gorg, beautiful, but where I have been the most is Palo Duro Canyon just outside Canyon, Texas. It is the second largest canyon in the US (the #1 is the Grand Canyon in Arizona) I have spent a lot of time there, much of it was with just the boys and me. If was close so anytime I had a day or two off work we would go there for what ever time we had. There are parts in the canyon that they swore only the Indians and them had seen. They had one cave they claimed as their own and the Indians were the only other people who knew where it was. One trip they found a BEER CAN in their cave. I have never seen them so mad. How dare them find their cave but to leave a beer can of all things in THEIR CAVE. If you are ever out this way it is a must see. Hope before long I can figure out how to post photos so you can see. Love to you and thanks for bringing up these GREAT MEMORIES.

Bouncin'Barb - glad you liked the photos today. I would certainly like to go to Bermuda. Bet it was awesome my friend! Mystic sounds lovely, especially reading a book by the river. I've often wondered, what does CT mean??

Katherine's Corner - glad you enjoyed the post today my friend. Like you with America, there are lots of places in England that I've never travelled to (or Great Britain come to that). I agree with you, anywhere by the sea is wonderful!

Rainbow - Palo Duro canyon sounds awesome. I can't believe that someone left a BEER CAN in one of their caves. I ask you!! I would love to see some photos my friend. Thank you for your nice long comment, and I do hope that you may get to travel a little at some stage. Have a lovely weekend. Warmest wishes to you from here in England.

I have seen travel videos of the area and looking at the pictures I can feel the love that is calling you. There is no place like that I know. I feel the same way about our mountains.

great pictures! i've never been "across the pond" so it's nice to see the photos that others take. would love to take the trip myself but i don't see it in my future.

very beautiful place. we recently found out that one of our ancestors was a very important person in Italian aristocracy. My sister who does not speak to me has all the details so I have no way to follow up on them. shame...

Chatty Crone said...

Okay you can have Venice is I can visit and I'll take Rome.

I have been to both and wish I could go back, but . . .

Southhamsdarling said...

Odie - I do hope to be able to go back to Italy one day, and I'd love to be able to come and see your mountains. I bet they are beautiful. Say hi to Linda & Rocky for me.

Teresa - how very exciting that one of your ancestors was high up in Italian aristocracy. Wow, that is really something! Are you sure there is no way you can get that information for yourself? Such a shame that your sister won't share it with you. Hope you are feeling okay at the moment dear friend after your op. Take care.

Southhamsdarling said...

Chatty - how lovely that you have actually been to Rome and Venice though. At least you know how beautiful they are. Have a lovely weekend my friend. Hugs.

I've only been to Europe once, when we lived in Germany when Dad was stationed there with the Canadian Army in 1961. I have travelled all over Canada and the US though and would have to say a piece of me resides in Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast. So beautiful and peaceful there...where my Scots and Irish roots were planted many generations ago.

Hi Diane, lovely post! I have been to Italy twice (Amalfi area) and Sicily once. I loved them both. I would love to visit Venice and Tuscany ooh and also Puglia. I think that Italian men are very like Irish men and so I am rather in love with them! I also love France, probably for the reasons I like Italy, for the history, food, culture, architecture, countryside and general style of living. Many thanks for your lovely comments about Lois, she is very special to me. Much love, Linda x (have a great weekend)

Hi Diane, reading through your other comments, I realize I need to make a slight ammendment...Irishmen are like Italian men ...without the style!Hugs, Linda x

Hi, visiting from Natasha's Pinning and Singing linky party. Your photos are wonderful - I'd love to go to Italy some day. My favorite place would be to go to Great Britain, mainly Ireland and Scotland with my hubby. Lots of ancestors from there. Next would be Germany, most of the rest of the ancestors were from there.

Pat - Nova Scotia sounds wonderful, and I really am hoping to get to America and Canada one of these days!!Enjoy your weekend.

flowers on my table - hi Linda!Thank you. I've also been to Sicily and thought it was wonderful. Again, I'm with you about France. As you say, I think, as well as everything else, it's just the general style of living. I like the bit about "without the style"! Hee Hee!

Bj - thank you! Lovely to see you here today. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Joy Burkhard - thank you so much for dropping by. Lovely to see you! I promise you, you would love Italy! Great Britain has some lovely places too but, unfortunately, not the lovely warm sunny weather!!
