Blessings

Dear Blog, I had my two young grandchildren here yesterday, and I realized how very blessed I am to have  three healthy grandchildren, who I absolutely love to pieces.  It's an absolute delight when they come running up to you, their little faces beaming because they are so pleased to see you.  I am certainly making the most of my time with them because, I know from my granddaughter who is almost thirteen, that the time passes just so quickly.

  I am very lucky because my eldest granddaughter is also still always very pleased to see me.  I am so very proud of her, because she moved to France with her mum and dad when she was six years old , so everything was very strange for her.  She works very hard at school and gets so much homework - much more than they do over here in England.  She has been speaking french fluently for several years now (she tells me that she even thinks in french) and has also been learning Spanish for the last two years, so she will be trilingual when she leaves school.

I see blessings in all sorts of things during my day.  What is the definition of blessing?  Well, I think it is something that cheers us - it might just be something simple like finding a parking space, contact from a friend, reading a good book, watching the sun set on a beautiful summer's day.  Good surprises really lift our spirits.  They happen frequently, but often get overlooked.

Do not seek Him only amid the stars in the sky,
for it is in the small things of life that you may find God.

As I am talking about blessings, I will quote the following verse which I have on a bookmark.

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your courage instead of your fears;
Count your laughs instead of your tears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.

The poem is perfect. I try to do that everyday - it can be hard but the alternative is so much worse.

I left you a tag on my blog - I hope you get a chance for it - it is super easy! :)

What a beautiful post,I love the verse. As I have got older I certainly have found I am much more appreciative of life and what it has to offer us every single day :)

Couldn't agree more LindyLou, about really appreciating all the little things now that we are getting older!

That was a great post - I loved it. I agree with you 150% that counting our blessings (no matter how small they may seem) is so much better than focusing on other things. I'm not saying I'm successful at it all the time, but I do try.
