Dear Blog, Yesterday I went to visit a friend of mine, who lives some 35 miles away. We like to meet up every month or so to catch up on each other's news. The older I get, the more I realize how important it is to make time to meet up with friends, especially ones that you don't get to see all that often. It is so easy to let the weeks and months just slip by. My friend lives very close to the sea, and this is very much reflected in her home. My friend hunts through the local junk and charity shops, looking out for old pieces of furniture that she can renovate. Everywhere you look, there is some eye-catching piece, and I asked her if I could take some photoes to share with you. I think she was secretly quite pleased that I was going to do this. Well, alright, she wasn't secretly pleased. She was absolutely thrilled!
My friend is a Prison Officer (although you would never think that if you saw her!) and she actually works on the Sex Offenders Wing and hears some horrific stories. The last inmate to be admitted was a grandfather in his seventies, and he had been jailed for abusing his young grandchildren. I honestly don't think that I would like to be coming into contact with people like that day after day. I think this is why she enjoys her hobby of furniture renovation, as she can forget all about work and produce some lovely items.
I love the interior of her home, but it wouldn't really fit in with the character of my own house, which was originally two 17th century cottages which have been knocked into one. My interior is much more traditional, although I do try to place some more modern pieces here and there, so I guess it is a mixture of both really.
The wardrobe here dates back to 1890 I've just realized that I have quite a few more photoes, so I will put them on a continuation post tomorrow. |
