Retro things

Dear Blog, Well, here we are at the start of another week and I thought I would talk about Retro items.  Have you noticed that Retro is everywhere these days, lots of it going back to the 1959s, and I love it!  All those lovely, sugared-almond colours of vanilla, pale pink, pale green and pale lemon.

I particularly like retro kitchen items, and whilst thinking about writing this blog, my mind went back to the kitchen of my mum and dad's flat (apartment) where I was born.  I clearly remember that there was a single white bulb hanging from the ceiling, with the bulb being covered by a bakelite lampshade (before plastic!).  We had a painted cupboard in that kitchen, a small refrigerator, an enamel stove and a square, formica-topped table with wooden legs, which would be covered with a vinyl tablecloth at mealtimes.

All this seems a world away from the kitchen that I now have in my own house.

When I was ten, in 1957, my mum and dad bought their own house, and the kitchen there seemed really modern to us at that time, with worktops with cupboards and wall units.

This...your kitchen is stunning. I'm jealous!! This is a great post. Made me think back to the first house I lived in when I was born. The formica kitchen set with the oil cloth (as we called it). And I remember our sectional living room set that was new and it was metal framed with removable cushions. So modern for that time. I love how things come full circle though don't you? Now it's "trendy" but it was commonplace back then.

Totally agree Barb - it's funny how all these things are now trendy again! If only I had kept all the furniture from my first house!!!

I have a mixer just like that. Have had it for years and it is yellow! It is the dang happiest appliance you have ever seen. I love it.

My favorite kitchen belonged to a friend's family. It was done in all turquoise - even the stove and fridge. The Mom had it totally redone in the early 90's and regretted it because it came back in style! heehee - It was awesome.

Hi and thanks for your sweet comments, I believe that Etsy is worlwide, you have to look under UK etsy, but the vendor is the one who says where the shipping goes to. For instance, my cushion covers are made by Jill, who also lives in Devon, so near you, and I received them in Switzerland! Hope you will find something lovely, all the best,
Maureen

Thank you for the info Maureen. Can't believe that your cushion covers were made here in Devon. Small world, eh?!
