Keeping Fit

Well, the post that I wrote yesterday about whether or not we wanted to live to be one hundred, certainly provoked a lot of comments, so thank you all for that.

I think the general concensus was that we wouldn't want to outlive our family, (which included children) or have to be dependant on others.  Certainly, I was very impressed with the comments by Shady Del Knight from Shady Del Knight Music & Memories http://shadydell.blogspot.com/

I'm sure he won't mind me repeating his comments, when he said "I'd love to live to be 100 or more, and I exercise every day and eat foods that will help me to achieve it."  But this was the bit that really impressed me : "I celebrate every birthday by making my exercise programme a little more challenging and vigorous than it was  the previous year."......"ageing starts the moment you ease up and start to coast."

Now I know that this is very true, and, as I explained to him, I really do admire his dedication and motivation to the cause.  Whereas I, on the other hand, ........ well, put it this way, I haven't even opened the box that my Wii Fit (Christmas present) came in yet.

Now I'm feeling crushed (!!) - as I'm typing this post, I have noticed that my Followers have dropped from 47 to 46, so someone has done a runner.  Gosh, I didn't mean to upset anyone.

"Boo Hoo! I've just lost a Follower.  Was it Something I Said?!"

Never mind folks, tomorrow you are going to have a welcome break from yours truly, as Bouncin'Barb http://bouncinbarbs.blogspot.com/ will be posting a Guest Blog, and I'm relying on you all to give her a very big Southhamsdarling welcome!

Ha. Lost one, gained one. You got ME! I would LOVE to live to 100. And I plan on it. People live long in my family, unless they smoked or drank. In which case, they lived a bit less long. My motto is, "Look for reasons to be optimistic". It serves me well. And, walk if you can. xxooo

Mynx - couldn't agree with you more, and obviously the quality ones are all sticking with me!!! I'm glad you're still here anyway.

Michaela - well, at least you're here! LOL! It's really good to have another Follower from Australia as well. That's two I've got from Down Under now! I love your motto, "Look for reasons to be optimistic." You can't go far wrong with that.

I'm still around and I totally agree with Mynx! Your blog always makes me smile :)

Don't be so concerned about followers This - sometimes people will cancel their blogs or "clean up" their blog and your blog will be dropped. It isn't that they were upset by anything you said. You of all people are so sweet - I don't think you could upset a fly. ;D

You don't have to worry about me going anywhere. Wouldn't want to miss any of your posts. Don't know what is going on at my blog. I hit a surge the last few days and hit the 50 mark and this morning is at 55. Don't worry about that 1, it'll be replaced by many more I am sure. Have a marvelous day.

lindylou - thanks for that. I really am very lucky with the blogging friends that I have.

SkippyMom - it was really funny how it happened. I was there doing my post and checking on my blogging friends, and the number disappeared in front of my eyes! LOL!! Their loss!!! Not so sure my husband would agree that I am sweet though!!!

Odie - so glad that it wasn't you that dropped out!! I've noticed that your Followers seem to be going up and up at the moment. BUT - it's not a competition, and I am thankful for the Followers that I have.

Come on! Open that box!!! I need a Wii Fit Buddy!! :) Don't feel bad. I just pulled mine out of hiding on Monday! It was upset with me because it hadn't seen me in like 90 days! Oops! And.... I gained like 5 lbs!! NOT GOOD!! I'm making a vow to either use my Wii Fit or go to the gym EACH DAY! Email me at beckylou@mail.com (easier to communicate!) if you need help figuring yours out.... once you open the box!! ;)

Don't worry about your followers. The ones that are here are the ones that count! I haven't gained a follower in quite a while. I'm not worried, tho. I am thankful for the ones that I do have. ((HUGS)) to you and you can count on me to stick around! :)

Southhamsdarling said...

Becky - LOL! I thought you might say something like that, and TA DA, I'm going to open the box on Saturday. I'm hoping that it's going to be easy to set up, but that's great that I now have your e-mail address if I need assistance. Going to the gym EACH Day. Crumbs, you do mean business!!! :)

Haahaa!! We'll see how long my "vow" lasts!!! ;)

Southhamsdarling said...

Becca - I'm all for healthier living as well, but the biscuits and chocolate keep getting in the way. Oh well, you only live once!!

Tanya (a Taste of T) said...

Whenever that happens to me with Followers, I think it's just making room for new ones who really like what I'm doing. Yay for friends :)

Southhamsdarling said...

Tanya - that's a really good way of looking at it :)

This...if someone dropped your blog because they didn't like it, you know what I say? To hell with 'em. They don't have good taste. hahaha

Looking forward to my visit!

Thisisme, thank you for quoting me in today's post. You are very sweet and I'm glad you found value in my words.

Please don't feel sad over losing a blog follower. You might have lost a number but you kept all of your true friends - friends who will stand by you - friends who are eager to touch base with you every day because we love and respect you. It doesn't matter what you write about. We come to your blog to get a daily dose of YOU.

I have 43 followers but I don't even know many of them because they have never posted a single comment. To be fair about it I have never posted a comment on most of their blogs either. Apathy isn't to blame. Lack of time is. I am maxed out. I wish I had time to follow more blogs and expand my friend base but I simply don't. We must all avoid overextending ourselves. If you join a blog, make sure you have time to "service your account." By that I mean carefully reading the person's blog and posting thoughtful, intelligent comments. We must all remember to have a life outside the blogosphere and not to become so consumed by blogging that we neglect our families and friends.

The new year is a time when many people decide to trim the fat, not only on their bodies but in their lives. They eliminate clutter, throw away that which is not being used. Sometimes, for one reason or another, your blog or mine lands on somebody's delete list. We must not take it personally. I have "buyer's remorse" over several blogs that I joined in haste during the past year because I don't have time to read them or comment on them. Those blogs are on the chopping block and I want very much to stop following them. All that's holding me back is the fear of hurting the authors' feelings.

It all shakes out in the end, Thisisme. No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

well, it certainly wasn't me, sweet friend! your blog is a daily treasure:) i can relate to that feeling though, of loosing one. you can't help but wonder what happened! i can also relate to keeping that wii fit in the box! i got mine for my birthday a few years ago, and it made me weigh myself every single time i started it up. one time, it noticed i was a bit heavier than when i started, and made me choose the reason why! after that, i totally gave up on it and just started walking outside for exercise:)in these cold winter months, i can see the benefits of the wii, however!

Southhamsdarling said...

vintch - I'm so glad you haven't gone away :) Gosh, so when I open that Wii Fit box, I can look forward to it talking to me (the Wii - NOT the box) can I?! Great, I shall really love that - NOT!!!

Southhamsdarling said...

Shady - I did look on your Blog to see if I could e-mail you, because I didn't really want to reply via the comment form. Anyway, I couldn't find anything, so I guess I will have to do it this way. Just wanted to say that, once again, you use such wise words. I totally agree with you though, about "servicing your account." When all my blogging friends write a post, I make sure that I post a comment. I don't see the point in having people as a friend otherwise. As you say, it is lack of time. With my 46 followers, it surprising how long it takes to read each Blog and then leave an appropriate comment. I don't know how people cope when they have to many Followers! Thank you again dear friend. Your comments are always an absolute delight.

Great post - I understand about the up and downness of the followers. Lost 2; gained 2 in the same day. But, blogger has also told me that two of mine left but I could see (in their blogroll) that they had not. Very strange. You might ask "how" I knew this... LOL - it's because I have so few that I recognize the little pictures next to the names and when I'm missing a picture then I know who is missing. I'm kind of a recognition freak like that.

I need to get my Wii Fit back from Amy. She borrowed it to see if she'd use it. I'm sure it's gotten more use at her house than mine but I want it back.

Jumble Mash said...

I sooo wish I had the motivation to keep fit. I've just never had it and don't think I ever will.

Southhamsdarling said...

Teresa - As long as you're still around. That's the main thing! We'll have to encourage each other to use our Wii Fits! LOL!

Jumble Mash - I'm afraid motivation isn't my strong point either. :(

Carol E Wyer said...

It's their loss if they've run off 'cos I love your blog. I noticed one of mine disappeared the other day too but the number went back up later in the day so don't worry it's probably a blip.
Now get that Wii out. ;)

The picture you had of the woman crying at the computer made me laugh. I feel the same as Shady in that I joined a lot of blogs but can't keep up with all of them. Not enough time! I also admire what Shady said about exercise. Don't worry about followers, I figure they just got too busy or something.

Southhamsdarling said...

Belle - I thought the picture was funny too! I do agree that it's difficult to keep up with all the Blogs. You can spend so much time on it!

This- I love the picture.....hey you gain some you lose some...but you will always have an audience to write too....hugs to you!

Southhamsdarling said...

Col - I thought the little picture was quite appropriate!! Sending you hugs right back, and thank you for your encouragement.
