No Awards Today ! :(

Have a look at this!  The original photograph was the coloured one, and I have applied all these different effects to it.  How cool is that?!  A lot of you might know  how to do this already, but I just think it is SO clever. I used the Picasa 3 programme and when you go into the Edit section, you use the Piknik button.   I'm sure I shall be using it quite a lot in my photography from now on. Who  needs special lenses etc  when this little thing does it all for you! Oh the wonders of modern technology.

I saw some good news in the media yesterday, and I thought how wonderful it was to learn about someone who is recovering from what was, originally, thought to be a very serious illness indeed.  I am talking about Michael Douglas.  He was photographed in November looking so thin and frail, whilst undergoing chemotherapy for throat cancer, and then, yesterday, he was photographed on holiday in Hawaii  with his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, along with his ten year old son and seven year old daughter.  What a difference a couple of months can make and doesn't it go to prove, yet again, how our bodies can go through such awful traumas and treatments, and, thankfully, in many cases, recover and go on to good health again.    Apparently, Michael will learn in the next few weeks whether or not the cancer is in remission.  Let us pray that this will be the case, and also pray for all those who are going through this dreadful disease at the moment.

I'll finish off today with a poem by William Arthur Ward (American dedicated Scholar, Author, Pastor & Teacher).

May we all sing more joyful songs in this New Year, 2011!

What a positive and happy post! I think I would like to know more about this program you use to get those different looks. I am a failure with photoshop...would you mind emailing me the details and more specifics?? Thank you!!

I haven't used that programme but I have used paint.net. As for Michael Douglas, I hope he has beaten it cos you can't believe everything the doctors tell you. I was diagnosed with cancer 21 years ago and given 6 months to live but yet here I am, still getting up to mischief!!

Your technology went right over my head girl. I am glad someone knows how to do all that fancy stuff. Michael is one of my favorite actors so I do wish him well and he is married to one of the most beautiful women in the world. That was a lovely poem. Thanks for a great post today.

What a lovely poem. I had to read it two or three times. This is all in all a very nice cheery post and as it is the first one I've read today it has set me up ready to enjoy myself. Thank you. I like the effects with the photographs too - it is amazing what is out there now...no more need for funny lenses and filters!

That's great news about Michael Douglas. My long range plan is to stay so busy, so deeply involved with life, so filled with childlike wonder and curiosity that I actually FORGET to die!

Southhamsdarling said...

Becky - I will have a go at writing out how to create a collage, and get back to you. Might not be until the weekend!

Tanya - thank you!

Kelly - so pleased that you enjoyed the poem!

Shady - Oh, how I smiled at your comment!! What an absolutely brilliant idea, to be so involved with life, that you forget to die!! LOL! Perhaps I shall do the same and we can age disgracefully together!

Great pictures! I will have to look into that. .

Wallene loves doing stuff like that.

Good news on Mr. Douglas.

Can I join the "aging disgracefully" club with you and Shady. :)

What fun you are having with your photos -- and the results are quite impressive. Thanks for the very appropriate poem; I'll want to refer back to it during the coming year! Annie

Annie Joy - Glad you liked the poem. Yes, I'm sure I will have to keep referring back to it as well. Somehow life just to take over, doesn't it?!

I watched in interview with him the other night and he looks great and feels great but says he needs to gain some weight so he's eating like a pig!! God bless his determination and dedication to focusing on beating this. Love him!

love the photos! i'm no good at the fancy photo editing software but i use paint.net quite a bit. surprisingly, i can do quite a bit in paint. whenever someone needs a screen shot editied (mostly easy stuff) they send it to me because i'll do it pixel by pixel. very time consuming.

i'll have to check out that program. i have some really great shots of isaiah that i took two summers ago. i love to do special effects with them.

Southhamsdarling said...

Bouncin'Barb - as you say, you really have to admire anyone dealing with this disease for their guts and determination.

Teresa - That's amazing that you edit it pixel by pixel. Phew, that must be some job!

Don't you love photo editing! YOu will be suprised to see all the wonderful things you can do with it once you learn the program.

I had the same thought when I saw Michael Douglas. He looked Horrible in November. My Dad died of cancer and I could see the "look" in Michael's face that my Dad had in his those last few months. I was amazed to see how great he looked. Thank heavens for modern medicine!

Have a wonderful evening.

I'm happy for Michael too. He does look good. I love what you did with the photos. I use Adobe Elements and enjoy it very much.

Southhamsdarling said...

Amy - Yes, I think I shall be using that photo editing quite a lot from now on! I'm sorry that you lost your dad. I really expected the worst when I saw those photos of Michael in November. It's quite amazing really.

Belle - Perhaps I'll have a look at Adobe Elements as well! Perhaps it will get as addictive as blogging!

I had tried Piknik once...awesome, don't you think...and I had no clue Michael Douglas was undergoing treatment...he looks so much better now...

Southhamsdarling said...

Hi cat! Yes, I'm sure there's lots more that I could do with Piknik. Just having the time to really get into all these things. I find that blogging is taking up SO much of my time at the moment. LOL!
