Time for Some Romance

As February is fast approaching, when we celebrate St Valentine's Day, I have decided to bring some romance into your lives.  Therefore, from now until the 14th February, I shall be interspersing my normal posts with some romantic ones.  Eat your heart out Barry White!

Today, I give you a list of top romantic films.  Please feel free to add any that you might like and which are not on the list!

Casablanca

Brief Encounter

Wuthering Heights

Ghost
Bridget Jones Diary

The English Patient

Titanic
Shakespeare in Love

When Harry Met Sally

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Pretty Woman

And now my two favourite, black & white tearjerkers, which are about as romantic as you can get!

Camille
Greta Garbo & Robert Taylor

Now Voyager

"Oh Gerry, let's not ask for the moon, we have the stars"

I'll have to admit I never saw the last two but a lot of the other were really good. I liked "A Walk to Remember", "Sleepless in Seattle", "You've Got Mail" to name a few. Should be a lot of fun going into Feb. with your posts.

This is a great change of pace, Thisisme! Unlike some men I never got what all the fuss was about when it came to actresses Demi Moore and Julia Roberts; but I was madly in love with Gwyneth Paltrow and Meg Ryan. Allow me to add the tearjerker An Affair to Remember starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr to your list as well as Love Story starring Ryan O'Neal and Ali MacGraw.

By the way, another late comment came in last night on my blog to your song list. It's from Londoner Kelly-marie. Please read it when you have time, dear Thisisme.

What a wonderful and ROMANTIC post! :) You listed some of my favorite movies! One that came to mind while reading your list is... "Everafter" with Drew Barrymore. I love that movie!!

Fun picks! I would add "Love Actually" [LOVE, LOVE that movie] and "Big Fat Greek Wedding"

Camille and Now Voyager are awesome picks. Yep! Nicely done Miss This. Thanks. :D

Oh, Love Actually, SkippyMom, that was a great film, and bizarrely, Dracula with Winona Ryder and Gary Oldman is one of my all time favourite 'lurve' stories..

BB said...

I've seen just about all of these movies. They are good picks. Bruce is not a romantic so Valentines Day is just another day here. I miss feeling special on that day.

Great list. I LOVE Ghost!

Odie - Who could forget Sleepless in Seattle and waiting at the top of the Empire State Building?! You've got Mail was also a good one. I used to love Meg Ryan, but you don't see her so much these days.

Becca - I haven't heard of Benny and Joon. I will have to look out for the DVD,

Shady - Well, I like to keep you on your toes! LOL!
Oh, of course, Love Story should be on the list. (Get my tissues quick!).I'm sure Cary Grant & Deborah Kerr would have been really good together. As you will see above, I also used to love Meg Ryan.I will pop over to see what Kelly-marie has to say. Thank you.

Becky - Hi. Hope you got to the gym today! I've had a lovely walk. I shall have to look out for Everafter on DVD as well, as I haven't seen it. I do like Drew Barrymore.

SkippyMom - Yes, Love Actually should also be on the list! See, it's that Hugh Grant again.

Gawgus things - I haven't seen that Dracula one. I can see that i'm going to have to stock up on all these romantic DVD's that people have suggested.

Bouncin'Barb - A lot of men, I think you will find, aren't romantic on that day. I always get a lovely card and perhaps some flowers or chocolates. I think that everyone likes to feel special, although we don't always get it!!

Jumble Mash - So do I! Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers. Aaaw!

Southhamsdarling said...

Olive - Yes, I love those two as well. Of course, that lovely poem that I posted a while ago (Stop all the clocks...) was in Four Weddings and a Funeral, and I rememember crying buckets!!

Southhamsdarling said...

vintch - oh yes, I saw The Notebook as well. Wasn't that the one with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves? Gosh, there are so many good ones out there! Have a good week.

I was reading the comments - and I realized that I forgot to mention that we don't celebrate Valentine's Day [not to be downer or anything] but Pooldad's and my theory is we have 365 days a year to tell eachother we love one another and feel special why should the corporate demand we do it on ONE particular day.

Southhamsdarling said...

SkippyMom, you are so right of course. It shouldn't all boil down to that one day a year. In fact, I think it puts a lot of pressure on people, especially those who perhaps are single at the moment. It really is just another very commercialized day now, but I hope you don't mind if I continue with some romantic posts leading up to the day!!

Belle said...

I love all these movies. I guess I would add "Notorious" on the list - Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. One of my favorites.

I love all posts that have to do with Love or Romance! Keep 'em comin' girl!!

Happy Monday! xo

lovely movie picks. some of them i've not seen and some of them i'd not heard of before (but will check them out on netflix).

i also love sleepless in seattle and you've got mail. everafter is another. the princess bride is one we like here, too. of course, gone with the wind is a biggie, too. sad but some true romantic moments in it.

ron's not much for romantic movies but he'll suffer (sit) through them with me if i want him to.

Ah....romance! My oldest daughter currently has the lead role in Singing in the Rain at her college, so I attended twice over the weekend. That is also quite romantic!

LindyLouMac said...

What a romantic you are! By the way well done on the Wii Fit Age working for you already :)

Southhamsdarling said...

vintch - I think I got it wrong. Think I was thinking of The Lake House!

LindyLouMac - I am a real romantic, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, my husband isn't, but I do try!

LetsMakeADifference - How wonderful that your daughter has the lead role in Singing in the Rain. You mean you only saw it twice?!!

Teresa - Gosh, yes, I'd forgotten about Gone with the Wind. That's a good one.

Jen - lovely of you to pop over to my Blog. I hope you will come again, and, yes, there will be a few more!

Thisisme - On my blog I deleted my original comment along with your last comment, then rewrote and reposted my comment. That should solve the problem.

How about "The Sound of Music"? Okay, I confess: I would nominate it for just about anything!

Laura Darling said...

Can't believe I'm admitting this...but I've never seen Casablanca. I think I know what I need to do this weekend!

Amy said...

I have seen almost all of those. I am going to have to look up some on netflix. I need some good chick flicks for a lazy afternoon.

Southhamsdarling said...

Laura Darling - what a lovely name! Thank you so much for popping over to my Blog, and I do hope you will visit again.

Amy - that sounds good to me!

OnMySoapbox - Well, yes, I guess there is a lot of romance in Sound of Music. I love that film as well. When my daughters were young, they used to watch it over and over, and I used to know it almost word by word!!

Tanya - I guess most of us do!

Shady - thank you SO much for doing that.
